Today, we’ll be using ChatGPT to generate a trading bot and testing out various strategies with ChatGPT and Tradingview.
Creating a trading strategy with ChatGPT seems interesting, and as a day trader, of course, I cannot miss out on these potential profits! I want to know if ChatGPT can generate the best trading strategy using $100K capital.
We’ll be covering:
1. How to use ChatGPT to create a trading bot using Pinescript code with indicators for entries and exits.
2. How to backtest the AI bot trading strategies step by step.
3. If the ChatGPT bot was profitable… or not.
4. The advantages and disadvantages of using ChatGPT as a trading bot.
I spent the whole day trying to figure out how to train the bot to give you the proper answers you want and, of course, implement the Pinescript code to create a working trading bot. Yes... I even upgraded to pay $20 a month to Open AI to create this video.

Not freaked out at all. Because my experience was it didn't give me results as good I could get my self for a very specific set of data. And as it suggests, being AI, it didn't learn or interpret what I was trying to accomplish even after hours of trying to fine tune it to tell me what I require. It was roughly 60 -90% getting me new data I wanted but not 100% at anytime.
It is not something to worry about, at least with the current state of the technology which is officially presented, let`s hope there isn`t a dark version. It is just a very complicated data model which changes its behaviour based on the results it gets each time when going through a data, but the models are still static and need improvements on a daily basis, so Skynet is not yet here :)

I've spent 100s of hours building indicator based straregies in python and a few did ok, but after all that, I think the best strategies do not rely on indicators but price action and volume. But its very interesting!

@@fabiajero I haven't used strictly price action and volume for back testing, the issue is trying to code the logic for the way that I actually use it. I use a combination of price action, volume, and standard deviations. And I'm generally trading from a zone. If you're interested in back testing, I used python and a library called 'backtrader'. You can get stock datasets from yahoo finance to use.

ChatGPT is based on OLD data, even its strategies use old codes as a reference, and if you are a day trader .. in fact, any type of trading at all then you would that it is a bad idea. based on this video, you can see many errors in the code like the stop-lose and the short, it does very badly at does. that's basically how all indicators are. so not bad. haha
what is mean by using old data ? doesn't it keep updating data everyday since everyday the AI keep learning

While the title says ChatGPT made you a strategy, it was really you that made the strategy and just let ChatGPT write the code to execute it. So the title should be 'ChatGPT wrote some programming code for me' ;)

I totally understand how you feel. I've been there too, but Wealthwise Capital turned things around for me. I went from averaging $500 every month with a 200K portfolio to averaging over $5000. Right now all i can say is, i'm glad i didn't quit. And now, i'm in a much better place.

What I do when I get the trading shits as I call it is to step away. Become a audience member. Start seeing what changed and make notes. Then back test. Sounds stupid but keep it simple stupid

Shay, thank you for this video! Only when you begin to understand the mechanics and psychology of trading will you really begin to have consistent success. It appears even ChatGPT needs to be trained how to make the best decisions and that comes from the person informing it and asking the right questions. It too will eventually learn and become consistent and successful.

Thankyou for the info on chat gpt. I have only used the chap gpt coding in pinescript in back testing. But chat gpt is only programmed to use pinezcript 4,although 5 exists. I also altered not only the time period but the % or contracts. This also improves things but not used for real yet.Thankyou for all you do.

Interesting video Shay. A note to your viewers; programed trading and AI trading are two vastly different approaches to trading. Using Chat GPT to code your trades is programed trading although you're using an AI to code. AI trading is when a bot actually "learns" from its mistakes to improve its trading going forward. To the best of my knowledge, a consistently winning AI trading bot has never been developed......yet.
Institutional investors (ie: big banks, hedge funds etc) have had AI programs front running trades for decades now.

Lol yeah heads up ai runs 97% of market. This is verified by theo trader don Kauffman who used to watch these trades take place and used to see accounts live while we trade on think or swim platform. They estimated about 3-5% of all trades are retail and rest is institutional bots. They kill ranger days but trend days give most profits back. Always in market approach so they do win but trend days are common and Theo said the bots just die averaging into loosing positions when it doesn’t pull back they’re just stuck.
IM PRETTY SURE THIS ALREADY EXISTS BUT ITS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE (LIKE EVERY OTHER TECHNICAL ADVANCES)
Renaissance Technologies and their Medallion fund have been doing exactly that since 1988. The fund is literally the most profitable, longest standing fund in the world. Dozens of books written about their success. Wikipedia would give you a good sample of info too, if you're curious. Sometime in the late '90's the firm went entirely automated. The company only employs technicians now to maintain data collection and system stability. The "machine" executes all orders, collects its own data and adapts it's own models according to market conditions. People play no role in the most successful trading firm in history.
Great video. Can you do a video on how to plan for trades for the day? If we focus on only 1 or 2 setups sometimes there’s no candidates for the day so if we had nothing else then it would be a wasted trading day. Are we always looking for the stocks that are running in the premarket? Even some Day 2 Consolidation stocks that had a big move on Day 1 will have little to no volume in premarket on Day 2 to trade the continuation. With so many strategies to look at and whether to decide to go long or short, it can be confusing sometimes what to look at for the day especially if it doesn’t fit your 1 or 2 strategies. Thanks!
This is very interesting. Did you try asking Chat GBT. "Considering historical price data and swing high and low, can you please create a strategy....." to see if it will create a bot specific to an instrument?

Unfortunately Trading View strategies run only in the tester. They cannot enter live trades on paper or at a broker. I’m thinking of asking an AI bot to convert a good strategy to MetaTrader 4 or 5 which it can code extremely well

For those who have more knowledge about the two subjects (AI and trading) is it conceivable to think that there will come a point where people will have access to an AI trading bot that could take into account all factors that affect the market and user preferences and trade on the users behalf? I suppose as an example, you could set up an account with X amount of money to begin trading with, set the AI trading bot to where it will trade each day that the markets are open and begin the moment they open, and then continue trading until either the markets close or perhaps when it has achieved a certain amount of profit for the day? In a nutshell, an almost completely hands-off approach to trading where the user is only required to supply the initial amount of money to trade with and selecting any specific parameters of the AI trading bot and then turning it on?

I am writing as someone who has been trading for about 6 years. Can assure u I have tried any popular and some of the less popular indicators on tradingview. There is no one size that fits all and every time indicator. The closest u can get is price action and a couple of moving averages. The less indicator that u use the better.

I think that if you don’t specify the quantity to buy or sell Pinescript defaults to buying or selling 1 share per order. So, the script may not be utilizing the full $100k. But, nonetheless, thank you for the excellent video.

Gptrader has been a great help to me in my trading.
I think the problem isn't so much with chat gpt, but instead with the indicator you're giving it. Maybe try a different indicator, or more than one indicator. The v-wap is only so useful, especially when you are using only that. I'm not sure if you could train it to write a script using candlesticks as well. Maybe try telling it how you usually trade and see if it can write a script to duplicate that.

Im a second year IT student, and I know a lot more compare to an average 2nd year student, and that script is pretty simple to understand, thanks for letting me know that I can use my programming skills with trading view
I have done this for MT4. You have to break it down into simple instructions (code per function) that you paste together, so at least a junior level understanding of the language is still required for that, and to bug fix errors. I don't know Pinescript, but I knew what the error was complaining about and how to fix it (your sell condition has the 'or' condition check in the wrong place, it should be inside the brackets, likely replacing the comma), that just comes with coding experience in any language.

Unfortunately Trading View strategies can be used only in the Tester. They do not generate actual order entries. I’m thinking of taking a successful strategy and asking an AI bot to convert it to MetaTrader 4 or 5, which it can easily do
A bit of a warning from an experienced programmer here: please make sure you test the AI generated code well, especially on a DEMO account before you use it on a live account ... I've had the ChatGPT create code for me many times which at first glance looked really good and impressive but later turned out to be a bit of a "nonsense-logic" and I had to reiterate over and over to the ChatGPT what it is EXACTLY that I wanted and it kept re-writing it's own code ;-)

I came here to get an idea of how to trade utilizing A.I after hearing a guy on a podcast talk about the importance of A.I and how he made $360,000 in 6 months from $50,000. This video has helped to clarify a few things for me, but I'm still puzzled, I'm a rookie, and I'm open to suggestions.
Investing in stocks is a good idea, a good trading system would allow you to spend many successful days.

This is all very interesting. After doing some quick research on Chat GPT and now watching her video this morning, surely Chat GPT can run this program and then have Trading View kick off an alert so then you can make a final decision whether or not to place a trade. I use Fidelity as a brokerage but I also use Trading View as it has so many more tools for chart analysis.

It may be that ChatGPT is good for systematic trading at this point, if the code can be refined. In other words, something that is a bit more long term. As I believe logic, patience and sticking to the rules has more of an impact on this type of trading. However, for short term and swing trading I think there is a large degree of human flexibility behind the success of a trader. Trading is in many ways both an art and science. I think AI at this point is a bit too narrow of a tool, however, honestly who know where it will be in a decade.

Can you try changing the VWAP length on various time-frames? Instead of a 3% max profit, try a 0.5% return. 0.5% return with a $100,000 max risk is $500. I think 3% limits your overall profit potential, especially if shorter time-frame scalps are plausible. Right or wrong, this may help your profit %.

I watched your video on RUclips because it is the same strategy that I was thinking of. Keep going that will work.
If you take into account most of the stock market is controlled by highly fine-tuned algorithms anyway; it's about time we all got a leg up.
Go and view the top stocks and you'll see that they tend to follow the same trend - that's not because anybody is buying or selling at the same time, it's because the worlds biggest hedge funds with the fingers in the most pies - have the same algorithms trading every stock.
In today's unbelievably manipulated market, I'm glad we are getting a chance to take back some of the pie.

The stock market is 100% rigged if it wasn't you would see 100% swings everyday.
To make it better, I would add more indicators such as RSI and EMA crossovers.

Well, it's all about positioning and how valuable you are to the marketplace. If the marketplace thinks you deserve 1mm dollars or more, it will in turn give you that amount
Doctors, Lawyers, & Upper management in the US and Europe earn on average over 150,000 dollars per year. If you're good at what you do and hyper-specialized you can double or even triple that amount...

@humble Trader I've been using it to try and write up an automated script for my strategy too. Its taken me days to iterate and find how to get kinda close, but still not working all the way. Would love to watch you explore more though. I'm hoping I can get mine figured out soon, but it seems like there might be some limitations to the scripting and CGPT that are going to prevent that.
