This is so beautiful. one of my favourite recordings of Michael along his todd rundgren cover of hello its me. Thank you so much for sharing all of these videos! feel blessed to be able to watch them. Its like a timetravel when the video starts. His playing and singing makes him feel so close. I imagine it was really strong to witness him live? Im a young man trying to find my way and Michael is such an inspiration. its clear that he breathed his purpose in life and did it so brilliantly. When you think about it, how can anyone want to achieve anything but to at least get somewhere near that? I believe we all can, but first we have to get to know ourselves and find our own true purpose here on this beatiful suffering planet. And when we do things will change in a beautiful magical way! It seems as if so few of us believe, in ourselves and that its possible to get there, but Michaels shows us all there is a way... Again thank you so much Randy Lutge, LOVE
Wow I am so happy to come across this, thank you for posting. I saw Michael several times in the eighties in small and intimate spaces. I had to miss a show in SF due to a sudden brain injury, and he kindly sent a t-shirt signed with a get well note to me in the hospital. I knew I would see him again many times - and then he was gone. RIP Michael
1980. I was 15. Bought the Live Rust album. Went to a new school. Did my first Quaalude, dropped my first paper acid, my first purple microdot, lots and lots of substances, had my first blackout that year too, on some godawful green-label JD... Ah, the memories. RIP Michael.
like criticizing jimi for deleting dylan lyrics. i am sure that neil is humbled by michael's adoration. it's about passion, not perfection. here you are watching genius, gone too soon, for that you are lucky, and you should leave your sniping to poseur channels. this is not one.
double drop D. You could call it D modal, as Neil does. It's the two e strings both dropped to D, so you can get that floating feel to it when playing a d.
Cortez The Killer (Neil Young) He came dancin' across the water With his galleons and guns Looking for the new world And that palace in the sun On the shore lay Montezuma With his coca leaves and pearls In his halls he often wondered With the secrets of the worlds And his subjects Gathered 'round him Like the leaves around a tree In their clothes of many colors For the angry gods to see And the women all were beautiful And the men stood Straight and (tall)strong They offered life in sacrifice So that others could go on Hate was just a legend War was never known People worked together And they lifted many stones They carried them to the flatlands But they died along the way But they built up With their bare hands What we still can't do today And I know she's living there And she loves me to this day I still can't remember when Or how I lost my way He came dancin' across the water Cortez, Cortez What a killer He came dancin' across the water Cortez, Cortez What a killer
perfection is overrated. It's called improvisation and not singing the same thing over and over because eventually he'd get sick of it and you'd start to notice. He makes the cover his own. I'm sure Neil doesn't mind, I think it's just you.
"The men stood straight and strong" instead of 'straight and tall'. It wouldn't hurt to learn the lyrics to Neil's songs. Although this is a very good rendition of 'Cortez the Killer' (one that many will love) it will remain a somewhat hampered copy of the original. No one beats the original that is etched in the musical memory of people who love Neil's music & his output. Nowhere this becomes as obvious as during the last seconds of this performance, at 4:13, "Cortez, Cortez, what a killer".
I know there haven't been 23,000+ individual views of this video because I am sure many like me come back to this same video time and again
thanks for uploading this gem
Good grief...amazing! One of my favorites of all time!!! I can't believe there is a Hedges version...ugggg...so cool!
my god ...this archive is nothing short of amazing
I sang and played this at my cousins funeral.
Love this cover !🤗
He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
And the palace in the sun
On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls, he often wandered
With the secrets of the world
And his subjects gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see
And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on
Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones
And they carried them to the flat lands
But they died along the way
And they build up with their bare hands
What we still can't do today
And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way
He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez
What a killer

Now that's pretty hard to do. How do you do it?
so i have a really bad ear, but would i be right in saying this is in standard? and anyone know what key his harmonica is in? youd be awesome!
Double drop D tuning. Harmonica most likely in key of D or E
:)
"The men stood straight and strong" instead of 'straight and tall'. It wouldn't hurt to learn the lyrics to Neil's songs.

Lacklustre audience
anybody know what tuning that is?
