NC got too close. Bismark was designed for close in Baltic and N sea fighting which meant it could take side hits but not plunging fire. NC should have kept distance and rained down plunging fire rather than closing the distance.
Looked like Bismark was the prime mover in closing the distance. To the extent the aft guns were masked. The NC also closed but not as much. The Bismarks captain appeared to use headless chicken directional control choosing to mask either fore or aft turrets
Good to see the USS North Carolina "FD" extinguish the fire so [7:42] quickly!! Kudos to them!! Anyway, it does look like they were close enough to torpedo one another. They WERE both fitted with torpedo tubes, weren't they? By the way, congrats on the very exciting battle.
Well US Battleships were light years ahead of Axis battleships technologically. Their advantages in fire control alone would be enough to carry the day.
Actually the North Carolina were armored to defend against 14” guns. Their guns were upgraded to 16” but their armor was not so she would not withstand the 15” shells of Bismarck quite so easily. Also Bismarck would shoot their main guns two turrets at a time with the 4 guns at different elevations. Thus when the first set shot & landed they could make immediate adjustment & fire 2nd round which were on standby faster. This is how they fought against HMS Hood & Prince of Wales so they could hone in faster. American & British tended to shoot all their large ordinance at same time, so that they all fired & when landed & evaluated they would all reload simultaneously delaying 2nd volley .
@@Bellthorian In point of fact, in 1941 they weren't. North Carolina didn't receive gunnery radar until March, 1942, as far as I know. She was almost as fast as Bismarck, but her armour, admittedly laid out in the superior AON, as opposed to Bismarck's obsolete incremental, design, was thinner (12 inch belt and 3.6 inch deck, compared to Bismarck's 12.6 inch belt and 4.7 inch deck). Bismarck had gunnery radar, but German navy radar was rather frail, and tended to fail when the main guns fired (as Bismarck's did). In terms of weight of broadside, North Carolina was in a different class. 24300 lbs. compared to Bismarck's 14112 lbs. Rodney, by the way, had a broadside of 18432 lbs, but a 14 inch belt, and 6.25 inch decks.
Where you show the NC got hit it would have rendered the rear gun directory disabled thus disabling the rear turret. The secondary directories also would be affected. This what happened to the South Dakota iN battle Savo island Nov 13-14
Come on Show Boat!
Time to show you the real power of the United States of America
Iff this game factored in stormy weather, like really bad one in the NA things would be more interesting,

That was what I kept saying...but still a great battle.

Well, that IS about the size of it. Rodney's 16-inch guns tore through Bismarck's armor like paper.
BB55 USS NORTH CAROLINA
Really, you are a hero!

North Carolina did not have torpedoes. Don’t think Bismarck did either.
AWSOME VID I subbed
Thanks for the sub. Hope ya enjoy my content
The respective regents of Eagle Union and Ironblood
What is that? battle group names?
Wonderful
I think fire should disable a gun for 1 shot or until a fire goes out.
Well, the US Navy wins every time,so poor old Kreigsmarine stood the same chance as THEIR NON-USN oppponents!

Eagle Union
AKA THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
I would think after about 40 3 thousand pounders the North Carolina would have hauled ass out of there if not turned submarine and dived to the bottom

What should happen in that case is the turret would fire under local control. At Salvo Is her turret crew weren’t trained to operate in that matter.
Why wasnt Bismarck's aft turret gp in action???
*plays sabaton Bismarck sad piano version*
Seems American bunny Bismarck imitations can defeat the original 😢
