Yeah the 1st time I actually had it was in a Chicago restaurant that was in Florida and I always ate the chicken parmigiana and then my aunt said that i should try the Chicago thin crust pizza and I was hooked, recently changed owners and now it is not the same as b4
I miss the pizza from Congress pizzeria to. Mr. Lombardo used to make his own sauce and his own sausages. The pizzas were amazing as well as the other foods they prepared. I love their chicken Vesuvio. I met wonderful people there at Congress pizzeria.
One bite. Everybody knows the rules. We call that style of pizza “bar pizza” in some parts of New England. We don’t cut the squares though. I lived in Forest Park outside of Chicago for a year during my training. I about crapped when I got a take out thin pizza and it looked like it was cut for a kiddie birthday party!
It's called Tavern Style. Cutting square slices or Tavern Style originated at Vito's and Nick's (the #1 spot in the video) after world war 2. The owner took bar pizza and cut them into squares slices so ppl could eat them like a snack to go with the beer and it's able to serve many at the bar. Now it's a Chicago staple. Much more common in Chicago than deep dish.
@@columbusohio72 It is! I think there is one in or around Homewood? It’s a decent cracker, thin crust, pizza, but I watched them make it, and they import big bags of already processed sausage balls, that come from downtown Chicago, someplace, and who knows from where originally? If you want, actual, homemade Italian sausage, made from scratch, the right way, Go to 84th and Pulaski, and eat at Vito and nicks Pizzeria. It’s like Aurelio‘s but the sausage is 1 trillion times better. Trust me on this!
Tavern style? Why, when you have deep dish readily available? There's regular pizza all over the country... I guess I'm crazy.. If I lived there I'd have a room at Giordanos!
"More than just deep-dish?" What out-of-town doofnugget wrote that line? We don't need to be told we don't eat deep dish most of the time. We know. We're us.

Buddy if that’s what you’re worried about you should never eat anywhere only at home.

Tired of the new hipster term of " Tavern Style " I lived in Chicago 40 years and tried a ton of thin crust and never heard it called Tavern Style !
At least there's a name we can call our own for visitors

Yes. So?
why is this pizza cut into small squares, is this being served to a toddler? What the 4377 is wrong with Chicago.
Agreed... The New York pie style cut is the best !
Cos it's mean to be shared. You get 2 or 3 pizzas and everyone at the _tavern_ shares, and eats like a finger food while drinking and talking
