A wonderful, informative look at this very appealing vehicle. We have had our 1.4TDI with the 7-spped Automatic DSG transmission for about 6 months, and it has proven to be a great car, especially next to our Polo. All of the clever design thinking on this car is something you appreciate more and more over time spent with it.
Nice review, a complete one, god job ! In two weeks, my car will arrive,a hach-back model, and I had the pleasure to make a three days drive test. This 1.2 tsi engine is brilliant, and you can make the declared consumption, if you are a calm driver. I sow in your video that you drive in 4-th gear at 60km/h. You can easily drive at that speed in 6-th gear, with no problems, the dynamics is amazing. All so, I've notice a big price difference, between countries. Here in Romania I pay for a mid spec + heated seats, tempomat, maxi-dot, parking sensors, full steering wheel , +++, 12.800 euro, a great value.
I have ordered the top version (105 hp / TSI engine), without Sat Nav, but with the Style pack, xenon lights and silver color. They gave me a 2000 (€) discount, because of some promotional prices that are currently available. Total price came up to 15,844 (€). It should be delivered around Christmas. I can't wait :)
So far it has not let me down. It works like a charm :) I have about 40,000 km. on it and I have tested it in very cold weather, also in very hot as well. On the highway it goes pretty fast for such a car: 150 km/h without any effort. On the other hand, it's not good for any offroad, even a minor one. If you have the right expectations you will not be disappointed.
How are the driving dynamics? It has a stiff rear axle, so I am prepared for it not to be sporty in corners. Have you had any problems with the 1.2 TSI?
@@danielfl.9347 No problems with the 1.2 TSI engine. It's really quiet and refined. However, keep in mind that I got one of the earlier version of this engine, when they were still producing them with 4 cylinders. I hear they started making them with 3 cylinders at a later point and I cannot speak for those. As for the sporting dynamics, it corners well enough for my liking, but it's definitely not a sports car. Also, sound insulation is not great and you can hear wind noise at higher speeds, but it's not too bad. After all, it's a low budged car so it's acceptable.
Excellent review, very informative. I have bought a used 1 year old Spaceback with 8,000 miles on the strength of your review and other research. When looking for another car in the future I will definitely check out your reviews. Thank you.
Hello, I have the 86 PS model and I have to object the fuel consumption. Driving behind a truck at 90-95 kmph I regularly hit 3.9 to 4.2 liters per 100 km commute, including some pretty steep parts on the autobahn and 10 km street traffic. It is all about driving with „foresight“.
Good review. The fuel consumption is a bit lacking for this type of car. And I concur with the comfort. The suspension is really uncomfortable on bad road surfaces.
Thanks, bud! If you look at it matter-of-factly, you should go for the Skoda Rapid Spaceback. If you dont care driving a Volkswagen or a Skoda, you get the better price/performance deal with the Skoda! Furthermore, it is a question of design affectation: The Golf might look more dynamic in the front, but the black glass roof of the Rapid Spaceback rocks - or what do you think ?
***** Yeah i think the Golf 7 is better looking (Front and Back), and the Golf has ACC and the other assistance that i think could be really nice and bring more security to the Car. Skoda has some options like that but only for the Oktavia i think, not sure... Would also like to have the same 2.0 TDI in the Rapid but the 1.4 (122 HP) Should be good. I need to tow stuff sometimes (Little boat or Glider (1000kg))
Hello, your videos are really good, well explained, detailed.... The rapid looks nice. However skoda didn't make a coupé like the old rapid ( skoda rapid 130 for example) and in my opinion it's a mistake. Ps: Sorry for my bad english ;)
I think Kia space is alright already... but in terms of quality, interior and driving I am more towards Kia but I will have to look inside this skoda. I have only looked inside the Kia so far and I liked it.
Hi! That's an excellent review, congratulations! I do appreciate your effort in making it, it helped me a lot in making my choice. However, I believe a small error might have slipped in somehow: the headlights are, indeed, xenon but, as I know, they do not have the Adaptative Frontlight System (AFS), therefore there is no swiveling around the corners, as said at 2:16. There is the cornering function for the fog lamps, but this is a different story. I have discussed with several local Skoda dealers and they informed me that the xenon option available for the Rapid does not come with AFS and that this would be thanks to a more special design of the lens, which distributes the light in a better manner. Could you confirm/infirm this? Thank you, cheers!
+Calin Pirlog This i am interested a lot and don't find on internet, can you put on Skoda Rapid headlights with daylight function? (i mean like on audi, seat toledo, octavia etc.) thats beatiful lines lights... i dont know to explain.
Hello, really great test, thank you! :-) It is good to know that Rapid is much narrrower than e.g. VW Golf, Ford Focus or Citroen C4, so someone can feel uneasy...
All the Skodas I drove before felt really numb when handling and had really cheap interiors. That is not so bad because the build quality was good, but the handling of anything that is not a straight road was abysmal. Is the new one the same or do you feel some connection and surefooted in the corners like in a VW or SEAT? I know it is a Skoda, but still that handling was just poor.
When did you drive the Skodas? The current ones have equal quality to VW and Seat and are very good when it comes to the interior quality and handling. You find one of the best price/quality ratios with Skoda.
***** Last one I drove way the Fabia Combi with 3 cylinder diesel. It was built properly and sounded like a muscle car when accelerating (slowly I might add) but the handling was poor in the corners, the brakes were abysmal (my boss borrowed it for a day when it was brand new and almost had an accident 100 meters from out firm), the seats were too narrow even for my slim body, and it drank a lot of diesel on the highway. But the handling was the worst for me, it leaned so much in the corners it felt like an old Renault 4. The 2010 Octavia was the same, good at going straight, but as soon as I introduced some bends it swiveled like a truck. :)
***** Oh, I forgot to mention my girlfriend has a 2011 SEAT Leon 1.4 TSI Style with the safety package that drives like a race car, I just love it. My new car is definitely going to be the new Leon with all multilink suspension, maybe 180 TDI, I just can't make up my mind - hatchback or a 4x4 Leon ST Cupra (if it ever comes out).
***** I do not like the Fabia that much, indeed. But the Octavia and the Rapid are great cars. The Leon as well. Did you see our review of the Leon Cupra?
An excellent informative and fair review which would help potential buyers decide if the car is for them.
Steve Chapman thanks!

That is a great price! Here in Croatia we usually get lower quality/fabrication parts from VW concern and the price is pretty high.
I have ordered the top version (105 hp / TSI engine), without Sat Nav, but with the Style pack, xenon lights and silver color. eyeCU13 Sounds great! Surely one of the best price/performance ratio cars out there at the moment!
@eyeCU13 can you give some feedback from these 3 years, is the car good? Thank you in advance :)

For that weight I would recommend at least 140 hp TDI.
Thanks you very much for such a detailed video!

great review! You sold this car for me for sure. But I am deciding on kia ceed or this one.... which is better?
Thanks! Well the Rapid does have way more space inside, if thats a deciding factor
I think Kia space is alright already... but in terms of quality, interior and driving I am more towards Kia but I will have to look inside this skoda. I have only looked inside the Kia so far and I liked it.

keine Ursache. Aber ich finde es schon etwas eigenartig das das dem Tester nicht selber eingefallen ist.
hi, what about the sound of wind when you drive in a highway ? is there a good sound isolation like in VW ? thank you a lot
