iPad mini 6 | Is it worth the upgrade? Should you save $$$ and get the mini 5?

  • The iPad mini 5 was one of my favorite devices of the last few years and now its successor is poised to also be an excelent device. It's existence doesn't make the mini 5 irrelevant though and I wanted to give some thoughts on who would benefit from an upgrade and who could save money and go with the older model.
    Another thing to note:
this video was focused on mostly using the mini for drawing. The mini 5 and 6 are pretty close when it comes to the actual experience of sitting down to draw. When it comes to productivity, other digital art forms etc the differences become more apparent. The mini 6 has many more expansion capabilities with usb c, or at least they become easier. You could potentially connect the mini to a SSD and monitor and easily have a portable little computer for non drawing tasks which can make a difference for many people.
***Also it seems like the smart folios are only available for pre-order in most countries. It is unfortunate that a very important accessory isn't available on day one. It makes drawing, especially on the go, more diffiuclt.

This is exactly the kind of review I was looking for because the only purpose for an ipad mini for me is drawing. A lot of other reviews are more generalised and praise things like the camera and the 5G and push the mini 6, and I just wanted to know if I'd get the same drawing experience on the mini 5, and you answered that really clearly for me. So great to hear your perspective.

Thank you very much for the wonderful comment! I agree, a lot of other videos only touch on the pencil briefly and often try to recommend something without much artistic experience. The actual drawing experience on all iPads with the 1st or ,2nd apple pencil is very similar in my experience and what changes here with the mini 6 over the mini 5 have more to do with the new body design. Also I just got in the smart folio and will do my best to make a video about that and a final review video! The new smart folio is a great accessory to give a nice little drawing angle and protect the mini while on the go.

Hi there! Once again, thank you for another comprehensive and helpful video! I took your advice and got the 256gb mini 6 as a complement to the 2018 12.9 iPad Pro! Using the same pencil on both my devices is a breeze, and I am enjoying the portability very much. In fact, I put it into practice and sketched very comfortably during my flight to the UK. Ultimately, being able to share the same charger across all my devices, the connectivity of the USB-C as well as the reassurance that the mini 6 will have longer system support made me decide to get it instead of its predecessor, and of course, your salient point about having to purchase another Apple Pencil for the mini 5!

I'm so glad I could help with your decision! Also, I'm glad you were able to get it in time for your travels because they seem to be sold out in a lot of places! The mini 6 is definitley more comfortable and feels like a cohesive package compared to the mini 5 that feels like old parts reused for a new product. Either way they are both great devices that should serve people well for many years! If the mini 5 and pencil could be had for a cheap price its a good option but like in your case, already having a second gen apple pencil makes the mini 6 more appealing and a little more cost effective! Thank you so much for the comment looking forward to hearing from you again about the mini and other devices! Hope you enjoy your new home and get settled in nicely!

Haha glad to hear! I think it is a fantastic device and the drawing experience on the mini 5 and 6 are very similar when you actually get down to work.

Interesting, as much as I’ve been loving the m1 pro I picked up as an upgrade to the mini 5, this mini 6 looks awesome and I may end up spending more money bc usb c….🥲😅 great video 👍🏾

Thank you very much for the comment! The m1 ipad pro is a powerful device but if you have the 12.9 like me it is difficult to take out of the house or office. The mini 6 feels like a multitasking window of the 12.9 haha but the overall experience is similar and already having an apple pencil 2 brings down the costs some. Anyways, they seem sold out in many places so you may have some time to think it over... Thanks again! Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I have been going through a lot of reviews to check whether the size of mini 6 is enough for drawing...
Hearing you, the size of mini 6 doesn't seem to be an issue....
So will ipad mini 6 with 64gb be enough for a beginner? Hope it can store enough files while practicing...

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  2 года назад

Thank you so much for the comment! I ended up watching a few reviews of the mini from bigger tech channels and they don't always offer the best drawing related advice... My usual advice is to get a middle sized iPad they offer a great price to perform and are still very portable but give you more room to work especially as you are learning. The mini is great if you say have used smaller sketchbooks in the past or if you are always on public transportation etc. 64 gigs is more usable on the mini 6 than the mini 5 because USB c let's you easily back up files but you will find yourself quickly needing to delete files or apps so I recommend 256! I hope that helps if you have any questions please feel free to ask!

@@tsukepen firstly thank you for replying.. so is ipad air 4 the best device?..
it seems big enough for drawing and comfortable as well..
Plz keep uploading your art works on mini 6 its helpful as well as entertaining...
And thanks for your positive response for helping me..

If you plan on only having one device for drawing then something like the air could be a good choice. I am someone who is used to the small sized screen of the mini and so I use it a lot but especially for someone who is starting with digital art the small screen might be frustrating. In the end the drawing experience on the two devices should be similar but the size makes the air a little more versatile for most people. And I truly appreciate the kind words! It means a lot as the videos take quite a bit of time and effort. I'll have new ones out soon!!
