This commercial features footage of the deleted scene of Ray driving the Ectomobile while he’s possessed by Vigo.

@@ColeWalker it was incorporated into the montage scenes. But that scene would also answer the question that there were 2 cars because the one would have to be repaired and the one in the movie never had a scratch. Thus 2 cars.

I remember seeing this commercial all the time on MTV when I was a kid. I always wondered who won that replica of the Ecto-1A.
They never did say it was full sized replica in the commercial... for all we know, the winner got a Johnny Lighting Ecto II.

Fun Fact: The Coca-Cola Company used to own Columbia Pictures in 1982, which is 7 years before Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony Group Corporation in 1989.
John Kassir is doing the voice-over for this commercial. He also started voicing The Cryptkeeper around this exact same time.
Sounds like when the guy tried to get the jet from Pepsi, but maybe this was real.
This is an awesome Ghostbuster commercial! And I love how they showed the Ecto-1 car mobil while Ray Stanz is driving it

Ghostbusters II(1989) left like a "chick flick" at times, but it was fun and enjoyable. Siskel & Ebert called it the "Worst Film of 1989". The purple slime was an homage to The Blob(1958). It was also a metaphor for decay in New York. GhostBusters-mania died down in 1995. It was a passing trend.

I remember this. I was 7 or 8 at the time. Didn’t know about the “16 or older” requirement. Most small print was hard to read on the TVs of the day. I would day dream about winning that car, hoping my folks would let me keep it. They could chauffeur me around in it every day until I was old enough for a drivers license. I never found those entry forms. Maybe the vendor never set it up at our local store.

@@BBC600 at the time, it was Virginia, but also at the time, I only got public channels. So it would be odd for Coca Cola to pay for such ad spots in a state that wouldn’t allow it.
I’m assuming it was mostly grocery stores, not truly “wherever cocoa cola classic is sold.” So not gas stations, but the two grocery chains my mom shopped at was Giant and Food Lion. That said, one of those two chains had a local promotion where if you collected receipts, they would buy our school computers. Complete strangers would give me receipts because dongle they knew. So in 2nd grade, roughly the same time as this Coke promotion, our school got several Macintosh computers, and were taught how to use them.
