    Excellent video Alex Ridgeway ! Thank you for your clear explanations of foot mapping and shoe making. Is this one segment of the online coarse you have mentioned in other comments?

    I'm still confused on figuring out dimensions of distortion. And the standardized length for the toe. Where do these numbers come from?

    There should be more mass to the rear of the foot not to the front . This is entirely possible with a trim . 50/50 is ok 55/45 or 60/40 is desirable to have more mass of the foot under the line of the leg . It also functions better to support the navicular structure this way .

    What if the distortion goes the other way and the length is shorter than the width?

      Distortion is distortion and should work regardless of whether its length or width. Good solid trimming protocols should be followed for best results.
