Hozelito You and can tell they have strayed away from GRRM values! The series without the books is hard i get it. But dont try and rewrite characters story arcs it just doesnt work. D and D are trying to go with the Hollywood theme which made GOT last season kind of anticlimactic to be honest.
I can't stress how much we appreciate you all for putting out this content. I know you all have been super busy but we appreciate it for making our days.
@@benjamincarmona5883 i saw everything just fine. what ruined this episode was the stupidest possible plan they could devise for the battle. let's send off the cavalry without infantry support, let's put the unsullied outside of the burning trench, don't have anyone defend the inside of the trench, and sacrifice most of the army outside the walls so there are not enough men to defend the walls. they could have planned it dumber if they tried.
@@benjamincarmona5883 IDK. I was not supposed to be a participant in this battle, I was intended to be a spectator. As a spectator it would be great to actually see what is going on. I think seeing it clearly would have emphasized the drama far more and not take away from it. Not being able to clearly see what is going on, does not immerse the "Viewer".
Two things I hope for: 1.) Nightking has a contingency plan somewhere, maybe it’s revealed after Cercei’s defeat that he planted something in either Jon or Bran. 2.) That the writers are gonna pull a red wedding on us and have characters die in more random moments.
Now that it's been made obvious that Cersei is the big villain, I think she's going to cause the most casualties. I also think she's going to get Dany killed (based on what Qyburn told Bronn in episode 2).
Bronn is going to kill someone with that cross bow...whether it's Jaime or Tyrion (or someone else if he decides to back his mates over gold in an about turn of his nature) remains to be seen. There will be random deaths for sure....and probably into the final episode even after the battle of Kings Landing as well. Your best bet for the Night King...would be that mark on Bran's arm slowly infecting him like creeping necrosis (though there's a good chance its gone now too!). Jon will have nothing to do with it, he never got close and it was never about him.
Melisandre: " and what do we say to the god of death?" Arya: "not today.." Melisandre: " oh and btw, you are Azor Ahai and that little dagger is Lightbringer. I just couldn't see it till now! It makes so much sense. I've should have said something when I first met you, but I was all concerned with you shutting eyes forever. Go kill Mr. Blue eyes, no pressure! "
I think the reason we do not see a one on one fight with the Night King or one of the White Walker generals, is that it would be too risky for them to fight a decent fighter like Brienne or Sir Jorah- Because if even one of them falls, a good percentage of the Army of the dead would fall too. JankoFPS I totally agree. Of course, then you have to ask: was the Night King required in order to kill Bran? Seeing as how zero questions get answered here, one has to assume any wight could kill Bran, thus negating the idea that exposing any White Walkers/ The King is too risky, as they eventually pile in.
JankoFPS and of course having the occasional WW fall and lose a portion of the wights would go a long way at reducing the amount of plot armor needed to keep the main characters alive.
JankoFPS as presented, the wights alone were unbeatable. There was no reason for the Night King to appear until everyone living person was dead. Yet another military “blunder” that existed only to further the plot. Who needs intelligent writing when you can just point at pretty visuals and then blame the viewers for thinking.
Melisandre death march reminded me of a scene out of the Chronicles of Riddick when the Furian Priest revealed himself to Riddick as a survivor of the home worlds culling. Shortly afterwards walks out of the protection of the hanger and into the waves of extreme heat before turning into dust.
I like that you pointed out the darkness of the scenes was meant to make us just as confused and uncertain as the characters. I thought the same thing after watching this episode.
Because that's the only explanation that allows one to think that the showrunners value them as a viewer. The alternative is to accept that they treat us as shit-eating troglodytes that will gorge on the crap that they fed us.
I think a lot of people miss the fact that both Theon and Jorah die protecting those that they had wronged in the past, as though they were seeking redemption
Historically cavalry charges were used to flank the enemy or run down a retreating or broken line, not to rush a hidden formation that is at 100% strength. Yeah it was a really stupid "tactic".
@@tauriqabdullah6130 They would've been decimated even with flawless tactics. Cavalry is best against enemies who value their lives and try to get out of the way, the dead don't break.
@@FuckGoogle2 exactly! So why send them out in that manner in the first place? There was only going to be one outcome. Goodness, if you and I knew that, how could Jon not? Inexplicable!
You're complaining about plot armour *now*? Jon Snow has been driving around in an armoured plot tank for years. And a Deus Ex Machina is something completely unforeseen, never set up, completely out of left field...not something that has been set up since season one both with person and weapon...and brought to bear by the long character arc of an assassin learning to assassinate. The latter I will give you though and believe me a flat screen TV only helped a little.
As Clausewitz said;"Everything in war is very simple, but the simplest thing is difficult." So how do you get the pointy end to the NK? The best warriors failed, Jon is pinned down by a dragon, but Theon's last charge has everyone's attention, allowing the assassin to move in. The Dothraki were wasted, but from their point of view, that tactic had always worked before.

Branch Stark LOL The score was brilliant - with so little dialogue it was critical. And that Dothraki charge was so nuts - no calvary charge will shock or destabilize the dead. The dead have no fear
I knew as soon as I saw the Dothraki charge, the showrunners only did that because it looked cool. It did look cool. But that's it. I really think they've sacrificed the story for spectacle this season. At least, this episode.

real great insights. "Jon must keep MOVING or else the dead will catch him. this is a subtle nod to the opening scene where a character tells another character to move" wow, no wonder the shows writing has got so bad if these are the type of analyses fans are making
The theory that Jon distracted Viserion by yelling "go go!" In order for Arya to be able to get by into the godswood to kill the night king is pretty plausible!
I thought that too, but rewatching the scene I don't think Jon had much chance to see Arya when he stands up and starts yelling. Even so, him being there distracted Viserion from Arya even if he didn't mean to.
Yes, I just rewatched the episode with the brightness way up. My god it makes a huge difference. I couldn't see shit the first time and didn't know what the hell was going on for most of the episode.
The episode was lighted just fine, there was an issue with the live broadcast, those of us who downloaded it after the fact got the good version with the lighting as shot and intended, you did not need to adjust your brightness
@@michaelfarrell4824 I beg to differ. I watched it about 4 hours after it aired and it was basically impossible to see what was happening with the dragons and other parts.
It must be your TV, looked awesome on mine. Unless you expect to be able to see in the dark, some of it was artistic liberties. It was a dark battle for the characters, should be for us to watch as well.
Best part was the strategy used. Throw a few thousand horses at an numberless army. Putting your trebuchet literally at the front line and only shoot them a few times. Leaving your shield wall with huge gaps people so the enemy can spill through. Lands dragon in the middle of a zombie horde and looks perplexed as to why your now surrounded and have undead stabbing your dragon. Hardly any archer use while the undead just stand there looking at a wall of fire. The writers went through crazy lengths letting people live at the front line when that huge wave crashed in. Honestly undead should of won hands down easily.
The strings don't bend up, they slide up. And that's a specific technique of creating tension that Zimmer uses a lot. And since Ramin Djawadi studied under Zimmer, that's no surprise.
The musical score as the NK was entering the weirwood tree area was monumental. In the first moments, before that, I was like "Piano?!" but then I felt why. Spot on!
Nobody is talking about Jorah's final whisper to Dany "I love you". He was so weak at that point he could only whisper it. It kinda reminds me of the death of Boromir in the fellowship of the ring.
Actually took me a third viewing for me to realize he actually *had* said something (and that that was it) ...it just sounded like breath escaping the first couple of times I'd seen the episode, so I'm guessing most people missed it.
Kyle if he didn’t die so soon he would have raised an army so great he would of been unstoppable if Arya failed no one could of killed him there was the entire dead north army raised back up it was the only way it could have played out. He had to be killed in one go to stop him
Maybe being ready was just having the knowledge of what is to go down and to learn how to piece the future bits that he sees. He knows who is going to play a part in the great war and he is putting the chess pieces in the right spot to let it play out. I guess knowledge is what led Bran to know he would win and knew he played his part in setting up the characters.
They turned the Night King into your typical Villain and had to take his time with shit. im surprised he didnt bust out into a speech explaining why he did it all, lol.
I think you're missing the point ...they HAD to defeat him in a single full fledged battle. This was it. If they fell it was the end of the world. They were the last defense for humanity. The Horde he already had was massive. They had to take him on at that point or he would have swept down adding thousands more to it until it was millions strong. Lose the battle of Winterfell and already it would have added nearly 100,000 more to his army of the dead. No one left in the South would've stood a chance...they had none of the tools to defeat him or the army. This was never and could never have been a multi battle fight.
The episode was lighted just fine, there was an issue with the live broadcast, those of us who downloaded it after the fact got the good version with the lighting as shot and intended
Like any other prophecy it can be interpreted and does not have a definite definition. “The prince that was promised shall bring _the dawn_ “ Automatically people will assume it’s the end of The Long Night. @@belle7083 Yup...and the only way to do that to be honest is to destroy the Iron Throne and the way the 7 Kingdoms are ruled. "Break the Wheel" that just keeps the cycle in motion, as Dany put it.

Haha, Helm's Deep scenes look so bright compared to GoT.
at helms deep they weren't stupid enough to wait outside of the walls. this was the stupidest battle scene i have ever seen.
In Helm's Deep the focus wasnt terror nor desesperation. The idea of not being able to see everything is what made this episode for me.
@@rohadtanyad8908 I totally agree. I'm like wow outmanned and you go outside. freaking genius
I like how ghost flinched as the Dothraki blades were set ablaze. Nice touch.
I LOVED that. Such a genuine reaction from an animal, like my dogs would react.
Rachel Eng did ghost die?
Arthur Bygrave no he’s still alive
ghost was seen in the preview for next week standing outside Winterfell
Ghost deserves better than 20 seconds of screen time.
Two things I hope for:
1.) Nightking has a contingency plan somewhere, maybe it’s revealed after Cercei’s defeat that he planted something in either Jon or Bran.
2.) That the writers are gonna pull a red wedding on us and have characters die in more random moments.
I mean Qyburn does a a mountain zombie the NK could "borrow."
Jon will have nothing to do with it, he never got close and it was never about him.
it would be sooooo dumb if qyburn's scorpio would be able to kill Dany's dragons while the BLUE wight dragon wasn't...... like wtf
well melisandre has gone for good . the great war is over
7:51 Ghost getting scared by flames is so adorable
I didn't even notice that is p r e c i o u s
Melisandre: " and what do we say to the god of death?"
Arya: "not today.."
Melisandre: " oh and btw, you are Azor Ahai and that little dagger is Lightbringer. I just couldn't see it till now! It makes so much sense. I've should have said something when I first met you, but I was all concerned with you shutting eyes forever. Go kill Mr. Blue eyes, no pressure! "
I think the reason we do not see a one on one fight with the Night King or one of the White Walker generals, is that it would be too risky
for them to fight a decent fighter like Brienne or Sir Jorah- Because if even one of them falls, a good percentage of the Army of the dead would fall too.
Same with Jon vs the Night King.- The NK knew that Jon is an extremely dangerous fighter, with an Valyrien steel sword, that already killed one of his generals back in hardhome.
And to risk basically everything (the whole Army and all the other walkers, and losing their whole purpose of creating an endless night and destroying the realms of men) would just be a stupid idea.
So i get why none of the walkers or even the NK itself wouldnt try to fight any living character with valyrien steel swords or even risking to accidentally getting killed by a normal soldier with an dragon glass weapon and losing a whole bunch of their army.
White walkers are very easy to kill with valyrian steel sword or dragon glass since they will shattered with one single hit
Bad writing is just bad writing. By that logic none of them should've been there.
Good thing that the Hound showed Arya where the heart is.. lol
Thought the same thing after it happened
Melisandre death march reminded me of a scene out of the Chronicles of Riddick when the Furian Priest revealed himself to Riddick as a survivor of the home worlds culling. Shortly afterwards walks out of the protection of the hanger and into the waves of extreme heat before turning into dust.
It's filmed in the same exact way.
Ya remember that! Quite similar.
Exactly!! I thought the same thing. Yeah, he drops the knife(like Melisandre drops the necklace) and then he walks out into the heat.
My thought exactly
Yeap 100%
I like that you pointed out the darkness of the scenes was meant to make us just as confused and uncertain as the characters. I thought the same thing after watching this episode.
Because that's the only explanation that allows one to think that the showrunners value them as a viewer. The alternative is to accept that they treat us as shit-eating troglodytes that will gorge on the crap that they fed us.
Ned Umber was actually the first named character to go down this season...
Had Tyrion been drinking something stronger than wine in the crypts, he could’ve made a Molotov cocktail.
Giant's milk?
Haha he could have been the molotov cocktail. He drank so many wine.
Baccardi 51
I mean some wine is 30% alcohol although most is about 12-14%
Well if GoT is somewhat based on our history the wine would have most likely been up from 40% alcohol content
I think a lot of people miss the fact that both Theon and Jorah die protecting those that they had wronged in the past, as though they were seeking redemption
No. We were watching the same episode as you. It's just a meh detail nobody cares about.
For god's sake, Theon even spells it out, how could anyone miss it...?

Historically cavalry charges were used to flank the enemy or run down a retreating or broken line, not to rush a hidden formation that is at 100% strength. Yeah it was a really stupid "tactic".
Except in Braveheart
Disgusting tactic and cannot be explained except that the writers needed to give Cerci a chance at winning.

Plot armor, Deus Ex Machina, Writing and Lack of Flat screen TV without a glare is what killed it for me this episode.

Everything that had to happen happened like it was meant to. The 1 in 14 million.

If only it were the last battle...
