My guinea pig actually loved being alone more an runs happily around the cage by herself an when I put her with someone she would be mad an try to fight them and got happy when I removed the company. She also loves getting her backside rubbed and stretches out like a cat purring for me to keep petting her she gets comfortable.

As responsible owners We get to know our pets, some have special needs, for example, my guinea pig, dustbunny, had a bad history with other guinea pigs and ended up hating others around her, She was injured in both legs and is not much for exercise because of those injuries, once another guinea pig bit me and made me bleed, She smelled my injury and got noticeably angry, from that point it became impossible to have her near other piggies, She's got a skin condition and after having her fur grow too long it will start to hurt, we noticed that when she rejected being touched anywhere making pain noises, after a haircut She behaved a lot better, We keep her in a place where She feels safe and has constant access to food and vegetables, She's very picky with which foods She wants to eat, She won't forgive not getting some tomato daily, sometimes even rejecting lettuce, celery, bell pepper or anything else, She will want tomato, She's got quite the personality.

They have exceptional hearing. When you go to the refrigerator, open it and close it and Apples or Carrots or some other treat they really like doesn't appear in front of them shortly, they'll start talking to you about it. Usually they hear the fridge door and start talking then. Lest you forget. Haven't had any for 25 years but remember that. Also remember having one and then walking into the room to having 5 the next day. They come out looking like miniature versions of Mom and if she ever nurses them, I didn't see it. They just waddled up to the food dish and dug in.

I have quail which are like guinea pigs in bird form. A lot of this list applies to them also. Compared with guinea pigs, I find quail a bit more interesting when no physical interaction is involved, although guinea pigs seem to tolerate handling more so are better for physical interaction. Of course it can come down to the individual animal, some can be more/less skittish than others of the same species. If a quail imprints on you at birth, it can tolerate handling very well.

This video is actually spot on I’ve kept piggy’s for 11 years of my life until the last of them passed away last year. But I would say the rabbit one is a case by case basis, I had a rabbit and a guinea pig that couldn’t be separated they had free range of my whole kitchen, but you’d always find them snuggled up together away from the rest. I was so glad that my rabbit could have company with them after her sibling passed away. I think she thought they were her babies 💖😊

This is because it's an important place in the world of guinea pig dominance, so it's seen as "embarrassing" for guinea pigs to be pet on their butt. If Brownie is the dominant pig, she may be trying to tell you she's not a fan.. I pet my guinea pig's butt for a long time, and I don't want to make you feel bad :( but maybe this can help

    18. Loud noises (I would add 'any unexpected noise')
    17. Not having somewhere to hide
    16. Cold temperatures (below 15 degrees Celsius)
    15. Heat (I'd say anything above 23 degrees Celsius)
    14. Being picked up - they're fine once they are on your lap. Also, some piggies are more cuddly than others!
    13. Being lonely
    12. Travelling
    11. Touching their butt (although I would say that you need to pick them up with one hand under their front paws and another under their butt)
    10. Having a dirty smelly home
    9. Damp, stale, dusty hay
    8. Socialising with predators, e.g. Cats or dogs.
    7. Washing them.
    6. Not enough space to exercise
    5. Visitors and strangers
    4. Chasing after them
    3. Being held for too long
    2. Living with rabbits
    1. Dressing your guinea pigs
I would say that some of these are to absolutely 100% avoid (e.g. 1 and 2). Others are just to be aware of, so that ideally you can limit or reduce their stress. E.g. With strangers, they could feed them veggies through the bars of the hutch!

We had Guinea pigs when I was a kid.
They had a cage outside with 2 houses inside and hay / water/ food and the wheat stuff to keep warm
At one side of the cage there was a door to a balcony and a ramp which was almost always open in summer. (In winter we took them inside the house)
The ramp lead down to a self built outside cage which was ~2 x 4 meters with grass, houses, tunnels etc.
They could go outside and inside whenever they wanted and in summer when we were in the garden to watch out for cats etc we opened another door to let them out into the whole garden. It was so big for them, they followed us around etc.
They had a really good life I guess.

The only time I've seen people put "clothes" on their guinea pig is when the piggy had mange and it was the only way to get them to stop scratching. Scotty from Scotty's Animals had to do this with one that he was fostering because every time the poor piggy would scratch it would cause him to have a seizure. Also, some piggies love car rides. I had one who we thought was a dog in another life cause she loved watching out the car window at everything that passed by.

i had three guinea a pigs, but one had to be taken away from the other two as he was attacking them as a sign of dominance. he has been healthy and happy every since. they were all raised together so they didn’t need introduction. the other two lived in the same cage still, until one passed away last week. it was really sad. now i am working to re-introduce the two that fought so that the one who’s cage-mate died, won’t get depressed. it’s been hard to get them to not fight again so i try everyday and stop when they fight. i’m scared for the one who’s now recently alone because he’s never been without his bestfriend. what should i do?

    • @denisemuller7483
      @denisemuller7483 2 года назад

@@zoecercando3096 such situations are complicated. Are they all males? Because in males, especially in groups, uncastrated guineas mostly don't get along very well. If castrated and raised together this can work well, but two uncastrated adult males will fight. I would consider castration for both and/or if this doesn't work, castration and then (after 6 weeks of quarantine because of remaining sperm!) getting a female for each one of them, because two males will fight for the female. So the option if they don't get along would be two separate cages and getting each one a female partner or rehoming one and getting a female for the other I guess :/

My two were raised together so there was no need for an introduction. If you are getting separate guinea pigs to put together, make sure to do a proper introduction.

  • @Kitty-Marks

The cage graphic on this video is grossly to small for guinea pigs. That's actually a pet store guinea pig cage which should be illegal to sell. They are more then 3x to small at the extreme bare minimum. I've raised guinea pigs most my adult life save the best, cheapest cage you can get your guinea pig is a C&C cage.
Look up the letters C&C cage on RUclips or Google, Scotty's Animals is a great RUclips that covers C&C cages. While they are a built-it-yourself type of cage the cages are super simple and really cheap to make and these cages last forever basically. Furthermore unlike hamsters, guinea pig's cages do not need a top/ceiling unless you want one too protect them from your dogs or cats because guinea pigs can't climb and they rarely try to leave their own cage even if there is no door. That's not too say that some guinea pigs are timid explorers but they really prefer they're own home and once they've established that the cage you've placed them in is home, well home = safety.
The part about guinea pigs not like being picked up isn't entirely true. Most guinea pigs don't like being picked up but enjoy being cuddled, it's simply the shock of giant hands coming to "get them" they don't like but that's only for young guinea pigs who don't know you. I've had guinea pigs who have loved me so much that they have cried out for me to pick them up and one I reach in to pick them up they crawl into my hands. I even have had one guinea pig that her cage no longer has a door so she can crawl out of her cage and come to me. She has two cages; 1 cage in my bedroom without a door and connected to my bed. She lives alone and she sleeps with me only going to get cage when she has to go potty. Her 2nd cage is on the front room for the same reason, to go potty in and eat her food otherwise she wants to snuggle under my blanket. She lives alone because she's aggressive to other guinea pigs, I have 3 others but she can't be anywhere near then. Still she's very happy cuddling with me and I'm retired so I can devote all my time to making sure she has a wonderful life.

It’s a animation, it doesn’t have to be perfect like in real life, don’t have to be so deep about pixels and noise

this channel is known for showing bad graphics and examples and it’s really disappointing. i remember in one of the rabbit care videos they should a rabbit on a wire bottom cage which is a big no no. i wish they put a little more care into their graphics and examples shown.

Every time I petted my piggies lower back he would purr for me. He loved it. It wasn't his butt area, but I loved making him purr. I wish he were still here with me :'(

I must have the exception. I have a hairless guinea pig who loves to cuddle for hours. I've had guinea pigs in the past and everything said in this video was accurate for them. My piggie has a blanket she loves to cuddle in and just sleep on me, I know I'll jinx myself here but I've had her for 3 months now and got her as a baby and she has not peed on anyone. She'll either let us know by getting a little fidgety trying to get off of us, or I guess she holds it. I try to only hold her for an hour at max (although it has been longer when I lost track of time) because I don't want her to hold it in but she's so good! I won't lie, tried the whole getting her a sweater thing because she's hairless and she wanted nothing to do with it so she just gets blankets ❤❤. The video is right about cleanliness because she will not pee (very rarely do I find poop] on her blanket or in her hideaway.
