So I have a couple problems. I am a novice but have been slowly developing my skills over a couple years. I am nowhere close to being an expert. I cannot access files I've recorded because I accidentally deleted a program file. The only access I have is to go to recent projects. How can I fix this? When I finish a project and import it to a sound file it sounds muddy and unclean, not garbles but sort of like listening through an old tape recorder. Dull and nowhere close to what it sounds like when I play it back on the console. Also I just recorded a new song over the last two days. I saved it several times and played it back with no issues. This morning I wanted to show it to a friend and the playback was totally silent. I determined I would close the program and restart it but the computer crashed. When I rebooted and reopened Cubase my entire project was gone. Is there anyway to recover it or do I have to start all over?
Hey David. Sounds like you have some pretty serious PC issues there. What version of Cubase are you using and what version of Windows? To be honest, with proper software issues like this you will be better asking Steinberg. With respect to finding projects that are in your 'recent projects' list, they clearly are still on your hard drive so just open one of them up, go to 'file' 'save as' and see where on your computer Cubase is saving the files, then you can find them on your computer. If the project that was 'lost' was saved then it should be on your PC somewhere, but again, big software problems like this, you will need to ask Steinberg. Good luck :)

@@anael169 Hey David. Sorry I forgot that bit. What export settings are you using? You will need to make sure in the export window that it is exporting at 44.1khz and 16 bit.
Hey. You need to use the 'export' function in the 'file' menu. Solo that tracks you want to render to one track, set the loop region over the area you want to render, then go to 'file', 'export', 'audio mixdown' and in this window choose the name/location etc. You can also choose to import it directly back into the project you are working on in the options of this window. Hope that helps :)
Should the quantize preset be set to 1/8 for all types of music or is it best set this way for house music? I normally have mine set at 1/16. No particular reason why... that's just where it's always been. Thanks
Hm, In my vst audio setup, I`ve got no drivers at all, None! Why does this happen and how can I possibly fix this? (The sound system I use is a two pair speakers with normal aux into my stationary windows 10 computer)
the drivers refer to hardware drivers. If you don;'t have a hardware soundcard you'll need to install a software soundcard, which should be part of your motherboard software
Great tutoria. I realise it's aimed at beginners but is it better to use the Sampler track for drum samples or should we use Groove Agent where you can drop the sample onto a pad and build a kit?
It's really up to you and depends on the type of drums you want. If you want a more live drums then almost definitely Groove Agent, but electronic styles then I would use the sampler track and maybe even a mix of that and a top loop from Groove Agent, you can mix it up as well :)
Hello. Very clearly explained, thanks! For some reason though, I nothing comes up when I click on loops and samples. I paid for a licence for Cuebase Elements 10.5, but does this not necessarily mean I bought the entire product? Or so I have to activate them somehow. thanks :-)
I got the artist version of Cubase 10.5. It doesn't look like I have any of the samples that you say should come with it. Are they only with the pro version? (Thanks!)
Hey Joshua, I think you should have them. Sometimes the install messes up and it misses some of the extra content. It's quite possible that has happened here. I made a video on it and other problems which you can follow to resolve it, just use the time stamps to navigate. ruclips.net/video/NUPoeULcELo/видео.html
I've had cubase 10.5 for a year, but still need to have a printed manual, as it is so difficult to get a specific piece of information. It's about missing parts of the top toolbar. I accidentally removed the undo-redo icon, and haven't got a Q quantise icon. I went to the gear icon and started to delete some icons - as one needs two rows to fit these all on. Then I erased the gear icon by mistake. control z does not undo a lot of things. How can I get the tool box right - without the gear icon? I'm trying to get to swing quantize single percussion samples, but may now try to use Groove Agent for this, but of course, I accidentally deleted the right-hand window too! I have visual and other disabilities and constantly drag the left hand finger on the mouse pad, so it's a constant problem - of accidentally changing stuff without meaning to. Thanks
Seasons Greetings! BTP I've had my two coffees and came home with a clearer head. It's basic computer knowledge - that muso/composer types don't naturally have. It's a right click on top tool bar that allows its set-up. The 'undo & redo' arrows are called 'Project History'! Now though, the 'snap' function has changed from bars, beats and quantize to Grid, Events etc. It gets worse; If I want the 'time line' or wave files to 'snap] and stick to the bar, beat or quantize grid, then I turn 'snap' off when I go into the set-up drop-down! And tick 'grid type'. I think a printed manual is needed. My Internet went off for about two weeks in my backward and neglected region of Australia. We should prepare for a possible sustained or permanent loss of the Internet. This could be just what's in the plan for world takeover. Humans are naïve - living on the side of a volcano. Now to get on with how to quantize swing onto percussion wave files. I thought it would have been via an audio track, but see now, I must load my Latin percussion congas etc. into a blank Groove Agent.
Still having problems. I've been moving the snap and the 'Grid type' around on the bar, but haven't been able to the 'grid type'to word with snap - so I can snap things to a bar or beat- the way it as it was a few days ago. Sorry, I checked, the snap is working to bars and beats etc. It just looks weird. Now, I've found a tutorial to place my percussion into Groove - I'll 'snap' to it.

Hello, how does one get access to the sampler control tab, which reveals the on-screen piano keyboard, as when you were selecting your kick drum? I don't seem to have the control tab at the bottom. Thanks so much. Dave
Hey David, if you have Cubase Elements, Artist or Pro then you just need to create a sampler track. If you don't then you will need a third party sampler as the free versions of Cubase don't come with the sampler track built in.
@@Borntoproduce Thank you, I think I got it. By the way I am using AI. One more question. When drawing in the kick drum in various spots, I only get sound from the initial kick, where it was placed when originally selected from the list of kicks. Should I be doing it differently with AI? In case it helps, I should mention the newer drawn in kicks visually appear different, as the original one shows a picture of the wave form on it, and the drawn in ones don't. If again it is a matter of upgrading, which do you recommend? Thanks again, Dave
@@davidknox7480 Hey David. Sounds like you are just drawing in blank audio chunks. You need to copy the kick drum, to do this hold alt (option on a mac) and click and drag the original kick. As you are in AI you don't have the sampler track. My recommendation is that you just use audio as you are already doing with the kick, there was a third party sampler that could be used but it's not working correctly any more.
Solution: I used the sampler track replacement video, on the link cause I was using Cubase AI. So anyone with such a problem follow the third link above and you'll be good
I am following along with this excellent video, but I hit a wall when it was time to draw the midi segment. I have the sample track selected, but when I try to draw between 9 and 10, I get nothing. What am I missing?
As long as you have the 'draw tool' selected, it should just work. You might need to send me a screen shot. you can send it to jon at borntoproduce dot com
Nice video, thanks. Can you explain what the purpose of the loop region is if you end up duplicating the MIDI in to however many bars you need anyway? Is it just so you can hear it over and over again when you're applying fades/EQ/effects, etc.?
Yip you've got it. Just means you can focus on one specific section, not just for effects but also adding new parts etc. You can also use it to skip a section of your track by reversing the left and right positions :)
I’ve bought multiple cubase 9.5 lessons from you and the lessons are great. Mac update has forced me to upgrade to 10.5, do you think the 9.5 tutorial is still just fine or has everything been moved around in 10.5
Hey, thanks for your support, very glad you are enjoying the courses. The main aspects are exactly the same in 10.5 as they are in 9.5 so you won't have any problems following along in 10.5 :) It's more like a few features have been added to but nothing has really changed around or modified in any major way. All the best
hey there...i have just bought evo4 and instaled cubase..to my surprise it is not recording vocals from evo4 . I have checked numerous tutorials(many of yours) to troubleshoot it but nothing is working. The control panel is also not opening in vst setup
The control room is only in Cubase Pro. It should just be a case of setting up the input. In the inputs tab in 'studio setup' have you set up an inout for your mic?
Wow, I learned so much in such a short time! Great tutorial! Just moving from my archaic Sequel 3 and considering Cubase for an upgrade. So far so good.
i have no idea (this is probably a dumb question) but on the midi how in the hell do you make it larger ie the visual representation of the notes, on mine they are tiny like VERY TINY,the keyboard on left is almost mircoscopic and i just can't see where you enlarge it ,everything else is no damn easy, but this such a small problem is baffling me !!!!
No worries, very common question. You need to zoom in vertically, just use the little vertical slider in the bottom right hand corner of the MIDI editor window :)
Vari Audio is 'Cubase Pro' only. You can use a third party program that acts as a plugin for Cubase called 'Melodyne' which does exactly the same thing.
Having a problem copying the kick drum part from bars 9 to 16, the track name and coloured box copies but there is no kick sound. Enjoyed the lesson up to this point. a really frustrated beginner here
Re: video time 9:50... 1. My recently loaded Cubase LE 10.5 bottom section doesn't shrink much when I use the cursor to change the size. 2. No keyboard appears at the left side of my bottom window. 3. I don't see the bottom section lines changing when I change the Q settings. 4. My draw tool doesn't create midi bits in the bottom section. There's just a vertical line that moves with the draw tool and seems to create nothing.
1) Just hide the lower zone. 2) You are trying to use an audio track, you need to do this on a 'sampler track' as shown in the video. 3) In the editor you need to select 'grid' and then choose the quantize amount, but this could also be due to the fact you're trying to edit an audio clip not a MIDI clip. 4) Same problem, you're not in a MIDI clip on the sampler track. Just re-watch that bit of the video. Hope that helps :)
Yesterday I bought the complete course and today I started this first lesson. I have the Cubase Elements 10.5.12 and the problem is, when I do double click (like min. 9:40 on the video) my editor open but do not open any keyboard at the side and I can not draw the notes. What should I do? Thank you from Portugal.
Hey Nuno, sounds like you have loaded an audio sample onto an audio track, rather than load the sample into a 'sampler track'. It's really easy to do, like in the video you can just right click the sample in the 'media tab' (right hand zone) and select 'create sampler track'. This will then create a sampler track which uses MIDI, when you draw in a block on that track and double click it, you should then see the piano on the left hand side of the editor window. Hope that helps clear it up, let me know if you have any more questions.
@@Borntoproduce Hi BTP! I´ve got one more question: In the begining of the lesson nº5 we have the information that we can load the ´8bit kit´ from the audio folder in the work file for who doesn´t have the ´8bit kit´on the Elements. So, I load the file in the work file through Groove Agent Drums, the plugin open the wav file but do not convert it into a midi file, so I cant manipulate the notes on the editor as shown in the lesson. So, there is any way to open the ´8bit kit´wav file on midi mode that allows us to manipulate the notes like we see on the lesson? Sorry about this question but Iam new on this world… Many thanks
@@nunocastro1810 Hey Nuno, year we're sorry about that. We made amistake when we made the tutorial and did not realize 8bit kit was not included with Elements, hence the notice that pops up on screen. You have 2 choices, you can either use a different kit from Groove Agent (which is what we would have done instead of using the 8 bit kit) or you can load the audio as you have mentioned. If you use another kit you can still manipulate it, it just might have to be slightly different. You only use Groove Agent in that one lesson so it will not affect the rest of the tutorial if you choose either solution. Again, sorry about that, we are always learning and improving our courses, so the next one won't have that mistake.

@@Borntoproduce thanks for the reply. Also, why do you start at bar 9?
Hello. Very clearly explained, thanks! For some reason though, I nothing comes up when I click on loops and samples. I paid for a licence for Cuebase Elements 10.5, but does this not necessarily mean I bought the entire product? Or so I have to activate them somehow. thanks :-)
Download 'Steinberg Download Assistant' and you can install the sample packs from there
I got the artist version of Cubase 10.5.

Hi, I was downloading CUBASE 10.5 where I realized that you have to download features 1 by 1 but my windows 10 HP Laptop suddenly cut off when I got it back up I saw all the features that I was downloading in my folder what I want to know is how to place all the plug-ins, etc into 1 software where I can start using CUBASE GR8 Video though
@@Borntoproduce
Thank you, I think I got it.
Thanks again,
Dave
@@davidknox7480 Hey David. Sounds like you are just drawing in blank audio chunks. You need to copy the kick drum, to do this hold alt (option on a mac) and click and drag the original kick. As you are in AI you don't have the sampler track. My recommendation is that you just use audio as you are already doing with the kick, there was a third party sampler that could be used but it's not working correctly any more.
10:15 I can't carry on as there is no keyboard on the left, how do I turn it on?
Solution: I used the sampler track replacement video, on the link cause I was using Cubase AI. So anyone with such a problem follow the third link above and you'll be good
I am following along with this excellent video, but I hit a wall when it was time to draw the midi segment. I have the sample track selected, but when I try to draw between 9 and 10, I get nothing. What am I missing?
As long as you have the 'draw tool' selected, it should just work. You might need to send me a screen shot. you can send it to jon at borntoproduce dot com
When I click on loops and sample there is nothing inside why?
Nice video, thanks. Can you explain what the purpose of the loop region is if you end up duplicating the MIDI in to however many bars you need anyway? Is it just so you can hear it over and over again when you're applying fades/EQ/effects, etc.?
Yip you've got it. Just means you can focus on one specific section, not just for effects but also adding new parts etc. You can also use it to skip a section of your track by reversing the left and right positions :)
@@Borntoproduce Very cool, thanks!
Born To Produce I appreciate the honest reply, I’ll definitely be buying the synth wave tutorial✌🏽
hey there...i have just bought evo4 and instaled cubase..to my surprise it is not recording vocals from evo4 . I have checked numerous tutorials(many of yours) to troubleshoot it but nothing is working. The control panel is also not opening in vst setup
The control room is only in Cubase Pro. It should just be a case of setting up the input. In the inputs tab in 'studio setup' have you set up an inout for your mic?
hey i need some vst instruments can u help
Thanks!!!
good tutorial , thank you
Am I able to use variaudio on cubase LE 10.5 ? Because every single video on RUclips is for 10 pro all the time
Vari Audio is 'Cubase Pro' only. You can use a third party program that acts as a plugin for Cubase called 'Melodyne' which does exactly the same thing.
Having a problem copying the kick drum part from bars 9 to 16, the track name and coloured box copies but there is no kick sound. Enjoyed the lesson up to this point. a really frustrated beginner here
Thank you very much
Re: video time 9:50...
How about vst sampler for mac?
@@Borntoproduce Thank you for the quick answer! Now I see, Its because I creat an audio sample... I will keep on!! Thank you very much!
@@Borntoproduce Thank you again for the answer! Ok. No problem, I used another kit and manipulate it. I am enjoying the course, very instructive. Thank you very much!
Cubase can work only sound? or also virtual ? Thank you so much
Hello
I can't export or listen to the audio i recorded UNLESS i click de left mouse button on top of the audio track ( and i have to keep pressing the button ) when i export the audio its just silence ( But the correct time lapse of the audio recorded )
I have already check the audio connections and everything seems in order
Any advice??? please

How to download Loop samples for cubase 10
Is it only for me the keyboard thingy doesn't show up when i go to the Kick drum editor? I can't seem to get it to appear. Help please! :D (I'm using cubase elements 10.5)
You have added the kick as an audio sample, but you need to right click it in the media tab and then choose 'create sampler track'. Maybe skip back a bit in the video as this is all explained :)
Anyone know a good book to learn cubase?
What do you do when you have added the sample track to the project window, drawn in a midi segment, double clicked, but find there's no midi keyboard in editor. When I click on sampler control there's the midi keyboard at the bottom, but when I click on editor, it's not there. H.E.L.P!!
The keyboard in the editor is on the left hand side of the editor window. If it's not there, can you send me a screen shot of what you are seeing please. send it to jon at borntoproduce dot com :)

Thank you for this video. Is there a way to covert audio to midi in the non-pro versions?
You can use hitpoint detection in the audio editor and you can extract that as MIDI, but it will only take the timing and velocity info, it won't take musical info. For extracting the music you need Vari Audio which is Pro only
@@Borntoproduce , Thank you for clarifying. I wish they would add that as standard...or something similar --it will come so handy.
Hey great video - really helpful! Quick question: The pitch keyboard on the Editor window below doesn't show and I can't add/draw notes, how do I activate it? Thank you
You have probably loaded the sample in as 'audio'. You need to right click the name of the audio sample in the media tab and click 'create sampler track'.
@@Borntoproduce How do I right click with a Mac?

Hey Maria. Yes you should be able to use this sampler instead. I did a bit of testing and this does have drag and drop functionality but it's not quite as easy to use as the Grace sampler. It's the only one I can find though www.tx16wx.com/
