@@ironbarboxing7509 Holmes is my favorite boxer but you can't compare Young and Holmes. Jimmy had his own way to slip punches like a cat. I don't think Holmes was able to slip punches like Young did here. Holmes best defensive weapon was his left jab wich kept his opponents at bay. That's why i'm not so sure about the fact that Larry could handle Foreman.
If Foreman used to use his damn telephone pole jab in his 20`s he would be unbeatable for a decade. My favorite fighter was a mindless wrecking machine when he was young, and lost to Young.
I think the 1978 Holmes wins and possibly stops Foreman. The 1995 rope-a-dope Holmes would not have been able to withstand that pounding and would have lost.
After watching the Ali vs. Young fight I would think that there would have been some discussion on how Young got away with putting his head outside of the ring on several occasions? I can't find a word on it anywhere. To me, it was the most important part of the fight and why, IMO, Young should have been given a warning the first time, a point taken away the second time, and a disqualification the third time giving Ali the TKO. The ref, at one point earlier in the fight, started an 8 count, as if it was the equivalent of a knock-down, which I think it was. Those silly antics cost him the fight because it was clear Young out-fought Ali quite easily. Ali didn't land any power punches and only a few jabs and no one is a biger fan of Ali than me, but he didn't win but for Youngs cowardly antics.
Young clearly out boxed big George and he clearly out boxed Ali but with regard to Ali back in the day you really would have to beat the champ badly before the judges would give you the win. The tactic that Jimmy young was using on Ali of hitting and holding and sticking his head out the ring is probably the reason the judges gave Ali the win.
I have it as pretty close to a draw, with George slightly ahead because he was the aggressor 99% of the time and more effective lands. Young got credit for a lot of punches that were just grazes or the crowd thought were good punches. Of course George got tired. He spent the whole fight chasing Young from one side of the ring to the other, and pushing him out of the clinches. George was tentative and should have just punched through Young's covers, from the start. I feel sure the Ali fight came to mind, for George, with the way young went to and leaned back against these loose ropes too. Body shots and a few upper cuts would have helped too. Young was not going to hurt him. No wonder George quit after this fight.
I had it as a draw as well. Young never hurt Foreman, Foreman hurt Young and nearly KO'd him. Recency bias of Young winning the last round (and probably the crowd) fooled the judges.
Just ridiculous - it was a unanimous decision .One judge had it 118-111, a lop- sided win for Young .Young easily won every round after the 7 th - 5 rounds ..This fight wasn’t even close and you think it was a draw ? …Young repeatedly hit Foreman with lead rights and combinations while Foreman landed little outside of the 7 th round .Foreman was a very limited fighter with no boxing skills and no stamina .If he didn’t land any heavy shots in the first few rounds, he was done .Any good boxer could clinch and move till Foreman was exhausted and easily beat him - like Ali and Young
IN THE 9TH ROUND WAS THAT GUY HIGH SAYING ( I have Jimmy Young ahead because you won the last two rounds!! ) WHAT!! He won round 8 BUT HE GOT HIS BUTT WHIPPED IN ROUND 7.. Just thought I would let that out lol
He lost the 7 th, but Foreman was pretty ineffective after landing a big shot , Young evaded most of Foreman’s punches, Foreman punched himself out and Young was coming on in the last 40 seconds of the round , the crowd cheering him on .
You scored it for Foreman? Not even close. What difference does it make if he was the aggressor? You score a fight based on clean blows. Not who's coming forward. If you score on aggressiveness, then Joe Frazier was ahead on points against Foreman in Jamaica. Young dominated this bout outside of the 7th round.
Big George made a tactical mistake in the early rounds, he should have focused in on body punches on Young and really pressured Jimmy. Young was fighting a purely defensive fight and keeping his head out of range which left his body wide open for George to pound on. By trying to hit Young's head Big george wasted too much energy and no payoff, leaving him with no energy left again ala the Ali fight and ripe for Youngs late round rally.
The referee was ridiculous in this fight! He knew he was on network television and he let the corner and Jimmy Young completely intimidate him. Gil Clancy was responsible for this loss. First, I think George won the fight. He had young badly hurt in the seventh round, he pursued him the entire fight and landed the harder punches. Jimmy would land a good right hand with speed and no power and Cosell would go crazy About how great a boxer Jimmy Young was. Foreman was killing young to the body. Clancy, had George box in this fight. It was a terrible strategy. Young had seven knockouts! George should have waited into him the way he did to Norton and destroyed him. Young had nothing to keep Foreman off him. But George stayed a distance, through jab after jab and got exhausted
Isn't it about time that we acknowledge what a wonderful boxer Jimmy Young was?

I don't think Holmes was able to slip punches like Young did here. Holmes best defensive weapon was his left jab wich kept his opponents at bay. That's why i'm not so sure about the fact that Larry could handle Foreman.
@@emzid5105 Also Holmes went life and death with Mike Weaver.
4:21 Back then Foreman was himself the grilling machine ımao :D
Foreman could have won this fight with the jab.

This proves to me that Holmes wouldve schooled Foreman
Jimmy Young was quite a hugger.
100% the ref should have warned, taken points, etc.
Burt Sugar was on an Ali espn show adamant that Young beat Ali, sitting next to Dundee, who just shot him a dirty look.
I feel the same way, history has it Young beat Foreman like Ali but watching the whole fight it was a draw IMO.
The crowd came to see yimmy young

Foreman made the mistake of trying to box Jimmy. He should have swarmed him early and knocked him out

Jimmy looks like Craig’s dad. He was a fighter
He lost the 7 th, but Foreman was pretty ineffective after landing a big shot , Young evaded most of Foreman’s punches, Foreman punched himself out and Young was coming on in the last 40 seconds of the round , the crowd cheering him on .

i,m sorry but i have this a foreman win he was the aggressor most of the fight, jimmy survived, but a great fight from both men.

You're clueless.
@@TheBatugan77you have a nice day as well bud.
Me recordo totalmente ala pelea ke tubo george contra el mas grande de todos los tiempos MUHAMMAD ALI
Foreman didn't do well against master boxers
Or master baiters.
Are you blind or something George Foreman was fighting dirty. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Fue él combate mas extraño que visto para mi forman se dejo ganar
Young got his beat down in time
Ahh I am very angry about this fight, good fight by Young but man, why Foreman faught like that in his first carrer. Use jab man, you could win this.
He had a Sonny Liston jab if he wanted to use it properly...

Young beat Ali very easily. He won 10 rounds and did not get a single judge's vote. A fixed fight.
Foreman won this fight. Running, holding and not scoring.
Wrong
The commentators lacked alot of tack back then , very intrusive and demanding , to the point 👉🏼 of being almost rude ...
Tact*
Jimmy won this fight all the way but why was Foreman so angry? That was then though because he's a preacher now.
Threw more holds than punches
A fully trained fit and healthy Foreman would have got young out of there in the 7th.

Foreman trained for this fight. Young's style made him a very dangerous opponent
Boxers and movers gave the great George all sorts of trouble. If Jimmy's head was on straight he would have been champ.
