Having been on a number of Alpha courses (as an Atheist who has always been interested in world religions and more recently more interested in peoples reasons for having a belief in a god/gods) I have seen the course change from the older presentations and short video clips of just Nicky to the more recent slicker video productions. Most of the courses I went on tended to have more people from the church than from outside and/or non believers. I would agree that having the whole cohort chat as one group after the video is a good idea (rather than splitting up as did happen on a few I went on) as it allowed everyone to join in/listen to peoples comments and views (which is beneficial if you have a lot of people who don’t really want to speak but are just there to listen).
Whilst nothing on Alpha ever presented me with any evidence to convince me to become a Christian, I did meet a great range of people many of which I have remained friends with.

I have seen this many times on Alpha, it is a great tool but sometimes it doesn't help everyone. Keep searching, I was an atheist for 20 years before I became a Christian!

From my experience of being a christian married to an Atheist. There tends to be a lot of innate pain in Atheist men normally attributing to a poor relationship or no relationship with their paternal father. Based upon this its very hard to accept a loving father God and submitted to him as there is a lot of bitterness. This is the biggest barrier accepting a loving father God.

@@mel7ist I would say that’s a vast generalisation that I doubt you can back up in terms of atheist men in general (even if you do know a few who didn’t have a good relationship with their dads). As an atheist who had a great relationship with my dad I obviously disprove this generalisation. Your statement is like a Hindu saying that atheist women won’t accept The goddess Shakti as they had a bad relationship with their mothers.
Also I feel you are conflating and mixing the belief in / proof of a god with a persons willingness to submit too and/ or worship that entity. You would have to ask each atheist why they don’t believe in a god (or gods) as each will have their own reasons but I would suggest that many would say they have not been shown any evidence that convinces them.
Even if you could convince an atheist to become a theist, that does not mean that that person would worship or follow the teachings etc of the god they have become convinced of.

I took the Alpha course as an atheist and came out... an even stronger atheist. Sorry guys I've listened to all sides and I find the atheists vastly more convincing. Not even close.
