Hello Chad... make sure you have 2 vectors... on that takes in the outside shape you want ot keep and the other that surrounds the inner part you don't want. Then "shift" select both of them and use tthoses for your clipping vectors. Hope that helps.
Is there a way to perform the opposite effect? In other words, I have mountains as the background of sign but I want to clear away the center for lettering. Clipping is giving the exact opposite of what I want. The only place the mountains remain is where I want the letters. I want the mountains around the letters. Thanks
Hello Matt. Thank you for the comment! You can do what you need using clipping if you like. To simplify the process, I would do the following - Import in your mountains, draw a vector box around the mountains, and then add your text on top of the mountains (make sure the text is inside the box). Then select both the box and the text vectors and use them as your clipping vector for the level the mountains are on. What you will be left with is just the parts of the mountains between the box and the text. Should work... ~Todd
how would I go about something like this without getting jagged edges around the lettering? my first try was with a .5mm 5.4* tapered ball nose. and it left bit marks all up the sides of the lettering. please help. I could try a 1/8 straight ballnose, but it wont reach in tight spots. i'm using v-carve desktop 10.5x
Hey Brad! Thanks for your question! For something like this I would recommend that you actually use a straight cutter and a pocket toolpath to create nice straight text then just 3D Machine the 3D parts, I hope this helps, have a great day!
@@vectric the lettering is on top of the 3d model. Almost a part of the 3d model but using clipping, the letters are not actual 3d. in the desktop version i can not compensate for the taper so it runs the bit in to the side of the letters. I've heard you can in aspire, is this true? until i upgrade, i need to find a way around it. Thank you for the reply
Thanks nice video very helpful really like the update.
Glad to hear it! - Thank you!
How would you use this to remove a inner part of a 3d relief but keep the boundary. I want to keep the outside and get rid part of the inside.

@@vectric Thanks Todd. I'll give that a try.
@@vectric IT WORKED!!
@@vectric This clipping technique for text worked for me also. I’ve been looking for this solution for some tome now
Thank you
