I discovered this video last winter and started taking notes and slowly gathering parts and tools. Tomorrow I will be gluing the fretboard to my first neck build. I had zero woodworking experience before watching this video, but it gave me the confidence to try. My neck is not perfect but I feel confident in saying that it does not look like the first time I built a neck from scratch. This video serie is really interesting. Thanks! That's exactly what I needed when I started to make guitars 3 years ago. Even though I watch these videos a little late, there still some things I needed to learn and it is really well explained.
About wood grain direction on glueing: this spring I made a small tool shelf for my handplanes, drills and some other smaller stuffs. The side consisted 3 ~7-8 cm wide boards (originally I've cutted ~15 cm wide board half for better stability). Originally I've wanted to an opposite orientation glueing but I've messed up one panel. Within two days it was bended up, despite the wood was dried. Probably because of the cutting some internal stresses have been released. So I always go to the alternating pattern and glue hearthwood to heartwood, sapwood to sapwood what a local professional woodworker recommended in his video. (I would like to link his videos because he learned his profession and also he is a woodworking teacher not just a self-taught woodworker - no offense, I'll do the same! - like I found in many cases on RUclips. But hes mission is to do content in Hungarian language so probably 98% of the world will not understand it.)
Hey! just letting you know, this video inspired me to make a Bass. Ive been "hand tool" woodworking for about a year now and wanted a challenge. Im using this video as the foundation for this build. I finished cutting the body out with my ryoba saw and currently filing, rasping, and dowel sandpapering the sides square. Im almost done but my coping saw blades kept breaking so squaring the curves is an annoying process right now lol. How long did it take you to cut and square the body? Its taken me a while now. I get discouraged when i think about how this process would take like 10 minutes with a band saw, a router, and a template.

Of course just yesterday I glued my wood together and made a rookie mistake that you clearly show how to avoid. Sigh. I've got some sanding to do now. hahaha. Thanks so much for your videos they are truly inspirational. I love guitars, just as beautiful things. I love their look, smell, touch and of course the music they make. I was looking for something to do in my free time instead of watching TV and I came across your channel. Guess I've got a hobby now. I want to make an es 335 but it's definitely something to work up to. A tele is perfect considering it's basically just a lump of wood with a stick. Thanks so much for your hard work, you've really added to my life :). Can't wait for part 3 but it will be a long time before I need it.
Haha if it makes you feel any better I didn't use my own trick until the second or third build, but it works like a charm. Rather than sanding the offset I'd use a hand plane or planer and jointer. Because you want that thing to be flat from the beginning otherwise everything is going to be f*ed up for the rest of the build !
@@tchiksguitars Yea. Luckily it wasn't too bad, not even 1 mm but enough to be a bit irritating. I ended up using a hand plainer I had which made quick work of the main problem. Unfortunately the plain is cheap and I am a total n00b when it comes to woodworking so I ended up with some minor tearouts. Nothing a bit of patience and an electric sander didn't fix. Thanks for your video and explaining it all. Now I will definitely build my guitar. However, I have a question about the truss rod. In many technical drawings for Telecaster necks in the cross section view you can see that the truss rod is already curved and not mounted completely flat like in your video. Of course, profiling the place for a bent truss rod is more difficult, but does this solution have an advantage over mounting the rod flat? Or maybe the bent bar view is only for demonstration purposes to help better understand truss rod adjustment?
Yes on the real tele, the truss rod is pre bent and is inserted via the back of the neck and then there's a skunk stripe closing the whole thing. It is very specific of fender and since most other necks have a flat truss rod, I thought why not. I have no other explanation :p

Dang it Why everything needs to be square‽ Before starting build I need to get myself small square, marking gauge and that funny curve measuring comb. Last one is just so I can knock on people's doors and say "Good morning sir, can I come in and conduct free neck profile examination?" Although this might get bit weird when they agree and won't have any stringed instruments Thank you for this detailed tutorial. It boosts my confidence just like instructions on back of the instant soup did when I moved into a dorm.
tnx in advance for this amazing tutorial... a question: which glue do you use to glue fretboard paper template to the wood? 2nd.. when you finish to fret the slots, is it simple to remove paper from the wood? tnx for your help!
Hi tchiks! I'm on the building of a jazz master, i'm wondering if the "38 mm rule" from the edge can be applied to the positioning of the truss Rod, or if you have any suggestion on the dimension of the blank that i've to use in order to get the right specs. Thank you !!
Since the access for the truss rod is located in the neck pocket instead of at the headstock, did you drill an access hole in the neck pickup cavity so the truss rod can be adjusted without taking the neck off?

Non, j'ai juste grandi en dehors de la France :)
great video just the kind of video i need !
Love your video's! Thanks for the bonus confidence boost!
Thank you for watching them ! Spread the word :p
@@tchiksguitars I do, and will continue!
Kind regards!
Someone also from Belgium
Awesome!!! we are all specials, according to our moms!!! haha!!!

LOVE THIS SERIES!!! When's Part 3 coming?????
Sooner than you (and I) thought !
@@tchiksguitars WOO HOO!
22:30 “I leave my tape in place...for trolling reasons” 🤣. Best quote on RUclips fir 2021!!
Otherwise, excellent work, inspiring me to do the same...but with some power tools cos I’m lazy/time poor.
i literally was counting the 0's on 12:07 🤣🤣
How much did it cost to build your first guitar?
*How to start a great day*
tchiks upload a video
me: I've been waiting this so impatiently!
Awesome job!
very interesting man! good job
Is the guide on how to use these tools out?
Dang it
Why everything needs to be square‽
Before starting build I need to get myself small square, marking gauge and that funny curve measuring comb. Last one is just so I can knock on people's doors and say "Good morning sir, can I come in and conduct free neck profile examination?"
Although this might get bit weird when they agree and won't have any stringed instruments
Thank you for this detailed tutorial. It boosts my confidence just like instructions on back of the instant soup did when I moved into a dorm.
fantastic! thank you!
Tapetone is what stands between modern manufacture and the elusive 50s models.
Aha, didn't expect less from the president of the galaxy.
tnx in advance for this amazing tutorial... a question: which glue do you use to glue fretboard paper template to the wood? 2nd.. when you finish to fret the slots, is it simple to remove paper from the wood? tnx for your help!
Thank you!
