Late to the party here, but a correction needs to be made. You say that Ivy can copy any single creature target spell, even if it targets a land and a creature (5:02), but that's not correct. The spell must target ONLY a single creature. If it targets anything else, it's not a valid spell for Ivy to copy. It's the same as the rulings for Muck Drubb.
Mutating onto a animated land does 1 of 2 things. If you put the mutate on bottom, the land will gain the abilities. If you put the mutate on top, it will stay a creature and be a mana dork.
@@vex_mtg right. The only thing I think that may be irrelevant is that it says "it is still a land" since it's no longer a land and the ability isn't turing it into a land. But I could be wrong. 🤷♂️
I didn’t notice if you said it during the copy portion, but if Ivy has mutated, and isn’t the top creature, the she’s no longer legendary. You can copy her all you want.
I had a question in the same vein. If you mutate on top of Ivy does her ability still work since it says "Ivy" specifically. Since it's no longer Ivy but the creature that's on top wouldn't the ability no longer trigger?
Incredible video Although long, definitely worth it, you took the time to explain the mechanics of mutate and interacting with Ivy! Appreciate your effort into the video 🎉🎉🎉
Two cards I think this deck makes very good use of: Khalni Garden. Gives you a creature to target and doesn’t take a card slot in your deck. Enter the Unknown. Potentially draw two cards or put a +1/+1 counter on two creatures and get to play two additional lands? Seems like everything this deck wants to be doing

Ivy is one of my favorite commanders in years. I know you aren't playing Adrix and Nev in your list but I have them in mine and I learned something today: A and N don't copy tokens that are copies of auras entering attached to Ivy. Basically, the token auras aren't "created"; they just come into play. It's similar in a way to how creatures that enter "tapped and attacking" don't trigger "attack triggers." Adrix is still okay in the deck since it will copy Rite of Rep tokens, and Duplimancy tokens.
I just keep thinking of cards for this deck. Unsubstantiate. Can stop an opponents creature or spell. But you can also use it to return your original mutate stack to your hand and start it over again. Seems really good
Totally agree, Unsubstantiate would work really well in the deck. I have Slip out the Back for that slot to protect the mutate stack, might need both in the deck.
you can play bestow creature too. cast it as an aura and you get the copy aura when the creature leaves play, you get a free bestow creature as a beater
Yeah, I thought about bestow too, but wanted to focus on mutate, however bestow is even more powerful than I initially thought, thanks for the heads up.
Another wild point is if Ivy's mutate copy is on the stack amd she's removed from the battlefield, the copy resolves onto the original creature, giving you more triggers
Simic as we know it :D it is a little more vulnerable than other decks which is why I believe it can be lots of fun. Also: ive wanted to make mutate work in edh and thats a really interesting way!
There's a ton of ways to make mutate work I'm Commander, and it's actually VERY strong in the right builds. I've built several mutate decks, and they always go off in some silly overwhelming way, AND they're great budget builds!
Great video, it was really helpful seeing the deck’s lines of play played out. What are your thoughts on using single target bounce spells like Geistwave and Run Away Together as modal removal and protection for your creatures?
I’m currently building this deck because it looks fun. I’m worried about win cons. It’s not really voltron, because ivy wont get that strong. you can get good value and draw a bunch of cards but how do you close out the game? Rite of replication is the only finisher type of card I see.
Corrupted conscience can be a game changer because it steals a creature and gives it infect but will also give your ivy(s) infect as well and with ivy having flying you can start dishing up huge infect damage quickly so that’s a win. Plus there is other big enchantments like eldrazi conscription and collosification.
I am confused with Ivy and mutate. If we copy a mutate unto Ivy, lets say a Gemrazer, and we put Ivy under creating a Gemrazer with Ivy's effect, won't it stop us from copying future spells? Ivy specifies that the copy must targets Ivy, but its no longer an Ivy, its a Gemrazer now... help me understand please
I am new to magic, be gentle. Someone please help. I thought her ability is when the spell is cast? Is that not playing a card? I thought mutate abilities have to be paid for which would happen after it's cast?
I love this deck, and then immediately scoweld when I saw it was over $400. Yeah, simic can have lots of answers to things...those answers are just $15 a card =/ But thats not on you, great deck tech!
Can Ivy steal a spell from "Creature A" if "Creature A" is only targeting "Creature A?" Or does "Creature A" have to target a "Creature B?" For example: when "Creature A" enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on "Creature A" would work on Ivy?
I believe you are confusing enters the battlefield effects with cast effects, Ivy only copies spells on the stack. And that spell would have to have a single creature target that is not Ivy.
I'm pretty sure when you copy a mutate stack then the new copied stack also gets all its mutate triggers again. (Yes it resets to zero, but the stack entering counts as mutating I believe)
I'm not totally sure on the re-trigger mutate when copying a stack, but that would be cool if it worked that way. I'm leaning towards probably no though.
I like the build but it's sort of annoying when people tsk every other word they say.. yeah just tsk like tsk dont keep tsking when you are talking.. it makes tsk listing very much tsk trigger my tsk OC tsk D!

Thanks for the clarification. I'm guess if you mutate on top, the land can still "animate" and gain those abilities and the power and toughness.

@@AnimalTTC a mutate stack is every card on the stack.
@@AnimalTTC the named "Ivy" in the card effect really just means "this card/object". So her ability does still trigger if you mutate over her.

just a heads up, yavimaya druid puts a forest on the battlefield under an opponents control.
Would you make an updates version of this? alot of nice copy spells have come out since then.

Green does have all of those protection spells to help you out. Mutate with Ivy is incredible. You could go copy route too to make even more Ivys!!
Nice deck. Subscribed

When the textbox says Ivy, it really means "this creature". So Ivy's ability will still work with Gemrazer above it.
I am new to magic, be gentle. Someone please help. I thought her ability is when the spell is cast? Is that not playing a card? I thought mutate abilities have to be paid for which would happen after it's cast?
The mutate ability is stated as an alternative casting cost.
Mutate is like an alternate cost, read the ability text again, it’ll make sense. It is probably magics most complicated mechanic… at least top 3
Mutate is an alternate way to cast the spell, so you would be casting the spell for its Mutate cost instead of its regular cost.
I love this deck, and then immediately scoweld when I saw it was over $400. Yeah, simic can have lots of answers to things...those answers are just $15 a card =/ But thats not on you, great deck tech!
A few swaps and you can make this deck very budget friendly. All the mutate creatures are cheap and there is a ton of copy cards out there.
Ivy is a part of the 99 in my Illuna mutate deck
She is a sweet card!
I love Mutate, but 12 cards is not enough to base the deck around. You're just not gonna see them enough...
