  • I do a go mai construction and make a more modern tanto. I entered into the RUclipsr knife making challenge and this time it is a samurai challenge. I experience some ups and downs during the build but end up with a beautiful pattern on the blade.

      It’s good to try new things. Lol. I just wish I didn’t have to rush to get it done. Yours turned out great and you made it look easy.

      @@4wknives i also did mine in about a week and a half so time was an issue. I was going to do jelly roll but i had to scrap that idea 1.5 weeks into forging and was left with less than 2 weeks to make this. It was very stressful.

    Nice job, Jay! Love the pattern, and the use of the nickel. Nickel and the black always look classy, to me. Good luck with the challenge! 😎👍🏻🔨🔥🔪☯️

    I don’t know what you have for shop equipment but if you happen to have a Tig Welder in your shop then in the future Tig Weld the Copper instead of futzing around with the soldering crap, it uses the same Argon Shielding Gas as welding steel and if you have copper electrical wire laying around like for running more outlets cut a piece and pull the bare ground wire and use that for the Filler Metal. Romex Electrical Wire is always Virgin Copper never recycled copper so it’s very pure and will make excellent filler metal for the odd ball copper project instead of going and buying a pack of Copper Tig Wire for one project

      Thanks for the advice. I don’t have a tig but do have some extra copper wire around. I will give that a shot. Thanks.

    Often the blade bevel is carried through the tang and that makes that copper piece fit better.

      Thanks. I noticed that in a couple of the other vehicles. I should have thought of that. Thanks for the tip

      @4wknives yea imo they need to get more creative. No power tool challenge, forged to finish challenge etc..just some ideas. I mean no offense to anyone but the skill sets between some of these guys is pretty big. Limited tools, forge only type of challenges will make it a more level playing field. I'd like to see what some of these makers come up with.

    • @4wknives
      @4wknives  11 месяцев назад

      @@TheMotownPhilly I think that is a great idea. I like the challenges to see the maker’s creativity and to challenge myself to do something different. Your idea meets both.

      @TheMotownPhilly i agree with you. The difference in tooling and skill levels is seen in some builds but i think thats part of the vharm in the contest. We make what we can with what we got. Going brute de forge would be cool but thats very limiting in what we can make. I wanted to make a bisento originally but i dont have the set up for something so massive so i decided to go with a katana with a spin on it.

    Jay I really enjoy your videos. I had a question about the G P enchant. I followed the directions and I have used it on three knives. Looks good coming out of the G P but after it is sprayed with W D and aloud to sit for six hours when I take the micro fiber cloth all the dark oxide wipes right off. I don’t know how to contact Baker forge so I thought I would ask you. Thanks so much.

      Thanks for the kind words. Man as far as GP I have not had that issue. I’m not really sure what it could be. I have heard good things about their customer service but have not had to deal with them yet. Only thing is would say is maybe not wipe it off as early as you are. I usually leave mine until wd is dry or almost dry. I figure the wd is good for rust anyway.

      I will try to leave on for 24 hours next time. I am having a surgery the end of November and while I am recovering I am going to stabilize some wood. I have some really nice Burl wood and I would like to send you some blanks. I will get back in touch. Probably in December. Thanks again.
