Howdy Mr Mam ! All the way from Tucson Az , I too am an amateur rock hound/fossil enthusiast, glad to see what you do with Your fossil finds & i thinks it’s a supreme labor of love to prep your finds & share them with museums, for everyone else to see what a really old crab looked like back then ! Keep on prepping & I’ll keep watching! Cheers Mate!
Fossils are truly astonishing! Something so amazing was encapsulated in that rock! Thanks for all your hours of hard work in freeing that little crab so we could learn a little more.
Not a Surprise, but Always just as WONDERFUL to SEE. *Great Job!* 0:20 w0w I DO see the Brown 'Shell' poking from stone. Finally looked at Stone from Maryland, and [imagination?] See Orangeish pieces, (not as bright as cooked) haha, So wonder *IF?* May be back there soon, will fill car, if not learn how to work on them there.
😱🤯😵 twelve millions years - I can't get a grasp of it. By the way, awesome, great skills, dedication, great video production. Long time subscriber, always enjoys it. Just an advice you could implement : Adding some text presenting the maximum of information on the fossil, the animal, the era, the fossilization process, composition/weight of the fossil, etc. KUTGW! ❤😀👍
@@MamlamboFossils Very kind of you taking time to answer, and great of you to take advice into account. Stay positive and reactive! What guides your decision about how much rock to remove? I mean we can see that there is a core of rock replacing internal structures in this final result keeping it mostly together. But what guides you to fully reveal the exterior structures, replacing the rock with glue where needed etc? You mention it's more fragile so I'm guessing theres just a preservation need to keep the fossil largly encased unless science calls for more excavation.
I prefer removing rock on the one side of a crab while keeping enough as a bit of a "frame" to show where it came from. If it's a prep for a scientific paper I am trying to expose key elements of the fossil.
Amazing find and prep on that crab, fun to watch the time lapse and reveal. The leg that keeps breaking off, would it be possible to take a small diameter bit and drill a small hole in the center of each bit and place a dowel of some sort to secure it in place.
That critter looks like it could just give itself a bit of a twitch and then scuttle off into the corner of your workshop! Where were the eyes located on this species?
I know it's probably impossible, but ever had any luck exposing the mouth parts at all? I'm assuming any effort to scribe around that area would just break all the fragile parts off....Maybe you would have to manually chip each little bit of rock off...but even then probably too fragile. I would love to see the preserved mouth parts.
How can I tell if something is a fossil and not a rock? it looks like bone but it could very well just be a rock 😅 (asking for advice for a amateur fossil hunter being me)
Plot twist. Crab wakes up, yawns then walks away!!
Hats off to your level of skill and patients
It does seem like one of the most complete crab preps you've done... always addictive to watch! Cheers!
Glad you like this one!
You changed my perspective on what rocks are FOREVER! I'll never look at them the same way again.
Wow! That was an incredible prep! I can see why you said it's too delicate! But wow, it's fabulous! Thanks Morne!
Thanks so much Lisa!

Thank you very much! It's my pleasyre!
Beautiful preservation!👌👍
Amazing work! Always brings me happiness when I see fossils like this so well preserved and presented.
Thank you very much!
That's the leg that waved at you from inside the rock! It was full!!! A big one🎉🎉🎉 masterpiece 😊
Yes it was!
You truly have one of the best channels on RUclips! 👍🏻❤️
Thank you so much 😀
I always love to watch these videos, the crab fossils almost always turn out incredible! Well done! 😮
Thank you so much Linus! 😀

Update?
You always amaze me. What a beautiful crab.
Thank you very much!
WOW !!! That's incredible !
You rock
Wow, that crab is amazing! There's a lot of strategic work there!😊
Thanks so much!
What an incredible amount of patience!
Who would have ever thought that would be rescued from that rock!?! Amazing!
Thanks!!
What is the rarity of finding a rock with one of these in it?
Love that

I airways want to know how long was the actual prep? Was that 10 minutes? An hour? 8 hours?
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
@@MamlamboFossils looking forward to your next upload, you've always had something interesting!
Awesome! Ive always wanted to see this done. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
It's so amazing
Isnt it amazing to think that no living thing laid eyes on that crab for 12 million years? xD
Mamlambo, find out a way to un-mineralize it.
That would be so amazing!!
❤
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
amazing
Glad you think so!
Crab: Where the heck am I here?? 🦀
This crab had some great separation - all the ones I have done work on usually have quite a sticky matrix.
Yeah, this one was great!!
It must've been nice, being a crab millions of years ago. All you had to worry about was predators and the availability of prey...
Great work my friend 😊
Wow I did not know there was anything in beach rocks..well some rocks… wow fascinating stuff….😮
Would love to have some crab fossils. Did find some urchins lately a half of a fish and some sharks teeth on the last fossil hunt I went on.
Sounds like a great fossil hunt!
Why do you only wear one glove when using an air scribe?
Only the hand holding the air scribe needs protection from the vibrations
Impressive!

This looks incredible! What a beautiful speciman! Is it just me or is the music from The Sims 2? It sounds so familiar!
Awesome
Wow amazing!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
I always wonder where the eyes of these crabs are
Same! Maybe tucked in under the shell
Amazing find and prep on that crab, fun to watch the time lapse and reveal.
The leg that keeps breaking off, would it be possible to take a small diameter bit and drill a small hole in the center of each bit and place a dowel of some sort to secure it in place.
that would work! I'm going to try a thicker superglue first :)
That critter looks like it could just give itself a bit of a twitch and then scuttle off into the corner of your workshop!
Where were the eyes located on this species?
I'm not too sure! Perhaps quite low down near where the claws are touching the carapace.

Oh, and as always, great Video. :)
I haven't tried to yet, I might try it on the next crab 😁
This is amazing! Does the scribe damage the fossil if you aren't careful? I presume so.
Yip, it's a tungsten carbide stylus so it will mess it up!
Pretty cool, i was wondering how many hours does it take from start to finish?
This took between 20 and 30 hours I think
Release him unto the world
👍🇺🇸
how old is it?
Mid-miocene so perhaps around 10 - 12 million years
Cool😮😊
Esto es maravilloso 😎👌🏽😍
Has anyone ever tried to recreate the concretion around it with clear epoxy resin after prep?
Fossil fighters 😀
Should put it in some clear epoxy so it can't break an you can still see it
I stay away from epoxy as it goes cloudy with age
Did not know that thanks
Cool.
How can I tell if something is a fossil and not a rock? it looks like bone but it could very well just be a rock 😅 (asking for advice for a amateur fossil hunter being me)
It should have a bit of bone texture showing, that's what I look for anyway
@@MamlamboFossils what does bone texture look like?
