    Near Gobi Desert, Mongolia, former Soviet Union.
    A herd of goats cross a hillside. (Sequence on production of wool) Men beat fleeces with sticks. Women and children pull tufts from fleeces. The roll the material around a stick. The rolled up material is pulled across a field by a boy on an ox.
    People pound and winnow grain. Woman prepares food for her family in a Mongolian tent. A young boy drinks from a bowl.
    Woman uses hand powered sewing machine while her husband reads a newspaper (presumably to show how advanced these nomadic people have become under Communism). A girl uses a machine to process milk or cheese. Men and women reads a book. People appear to be having some kind of class outside their hut.
    Buddist temple. People perform ritual dances in masks - part of a religious ceremony.
    Family ride on horse to camp. Mongolian members of the Young Pioneers come out to greet them. The young girl is given her uniform. Men dress in traditional costume. Families ride on horse and oxen. Views of a town. Cattle herded across field. Camel and donkeys pull water out of well. Cattle drink from water trough. Cattle herded to market.
    Intertitle reads: "In Ancient Khiva."
    View over very ancient looking town. Street scenes - people riding donkeys. Views of architecture and mosaic work on walls. Silversmiths at work. CU decoration on item with symbol of Hammer and Sickle. People walking to fields to work - they are European, not from Mongolia. They harvest hay and straw.
