Let's see what Santa has in store ... no promises. But certainly EARLY winter one way or the other. 4.0 is already done thanks to our magical programming team and about to hit internal BETA. Cheers T.
4.0 has a completely new underlying architecture that we had to write from ground up. This new architecture is necessary to enamble full MPE/Midi 2.0 control. This is a part of whats taken us the last 18 months to develop. Full MPE around summer 2025. But ... From a personal point of view - I actually find 4.0 as important as MPE itself. Can't wait to show you. Cheers, Troels
Thx Dave. I am just a kid in a sonic candy store … just happens to own the store too, which may not be a healthy thing. But more importantly also a testament to our great engineering team that really, really had to go dig deep(er) for 3.2 and 4.0. Can’t wait to show you. Cheers T
Much love and respect to you and the team, Troels. SoundPaint is amazing, and the care and respect you have for the community is outstanding! Thank you for the update!

Hope that this new version will still run real time on my old Mac. Thanks for your great work and dedication, be sure that all the community can see the effort and the passion you out in every release.
II discovered Soundpaint quite recently. After listening to the Adastra Strings Ensemble and Adastra Strings Chamber libraries and I was completely blown away by the pure and excellent sound of these two libraries. Definitely, I bought them without hesitation. I recommend any serious composer or musician who writes for the string family to take a look at these libraries. In addition to being free, Soundpaint is much better than Kontakt and Falcon. Thanks to the whole team for this excellent work.
Wow, thank you so much for all your work and love going into this new beta!!!! Much appreciated and take your time. Soundpaint is already blowing the competition out of the park!
I love the infectious enthusiasm. It's rare to hear someone so full of love for a great product. I'm a cynical old fart and I can't help being in love with this system.
I had to smile when you talked about the lag of a couple of seconds between a purchase and the time it showed up in the downloader. What will I do with those extra seconds? ;) To be honest, I have never noticed even the slightest of lag. I don't think there's any sample library company out there that has a website/downloader that works more smoothly together.
Thank you, Lee. I truly appreciate your observation. It 100% aligns with what I aim for myself. I can’t stand boot times, spinning wheels, sluggish UIs, or redundant clicks. It’s the same dreaded frustration I feel standing in a slow airport line. Things simply need to work and fast. Of course, achieving that “just works” feeling is no small feat. We dedicate significant development resources to making it happen. An engine is only as good as its speed and reliability. Cheers, T
When they can get the file size down to manageable I am sure I will start to use it more. Right now just growing the library to give you enough sounds to a bit oppressive. But I do love the engine behind it. Can’t wait for 4.0
I'm going to ask the question I'm sure a lot of people are thinking, with the move to PCM could we maybe see Soundpaint opened up for 3rd party libraries like Kontakt? It would bring me immense joy if I could use Soundpaint exclusively.
Yes. This is necessary stepping stone to get us there. We are currently working with different 3rd party devs and enhancing our internal processes/tools/automations to make SP as smooth for devs as it is for users. So yes - and in some pretty big ways too. 2025. Cheers, T
I'll let Soundpaint staff answer this more directly and correctly, but keep in mind that with both Soundpaint and Kontakt instruments, it's not just a matter of audio file formats but most importantly, the format, content, and scripting within the instrument definition and its preset files. A conversion of some sort to a given degree of completeness might be possible, but doing so might violate copyrights against doing so.
Soundpaint is open to collaboration and has 3rd-party projects lined up for 2025. Developers can reach us at troels@soundpaint.com. While we can handle conversions, it often involves more than just formats. Scripting, permissions/copyright, and content adjustments are key factors. All the tools are available now, and we actively use them for our own 8Dio to SP conversions. Great question! Cheers, T
Can someone please tell me if within Soundpaint I can create individual outputs into Cubase like Kontakt allows on their internal mixer? I would to have this function, particularly for the drum kits. To separate each to an individual track in Cubase, easily. Or do I have to play each drum into Cubase one at a time. Thanks.
Most exciting things going on for me are with Soundpaint, just got the symphonic shadows series.. ❤ If I have one wish it would be that I could just fold my collection of 8dio sample library’s in to Soundpaint so I could have it all under one roof. Rather than have to load some of them from the file browser in Kontakt
@@musicien.du.dimancheThanks for the reply, I did, I even restarted my Mac studio and even though I installed the beta, I get the red exclamation notification upon reloading Soundpaint. I'm sure it'll end up working, I just want to check it out asap!

We’re constantly optimizing Soundpaint to improve performance, and you can expect noticeable updates soon. We’re committed to maintaining our status as the fastest engine on the block. However, latency can also depend on your computer and audio interface. High-quality interfaces like RME and faster systems, such as newer Mac M-series devices and SSDs, can make a significant difference. 0 has never been achieved and for every feature an engine has - you will introduce some form of latency in computation.
@@Soundpaintmusic I'm running new Mac Mini M4 Pro, and Antelope Audio Zen Quadro, so my specs are pretty solid. Does having multiple Soundpaint instancs over several track, stack its latency on top of eachother? So 8 tracks with Soundpaint means 64ms latency? Cheers team!
@@samuelallenmusic The reason Soundpaint (in AXX/VST/AU) format is designed the way it is is based on feedback from Apple and other DAW makers. If you assign a new instance to every track - the DAW will automatically optimize for this and assign a unique CPU core per instance. Whereas if we try to do this within the plugin itself - it will often confuse the DAW as there are conflicting allocations and that can lead to less than optimal results.
I hope that you some day will be able to combine RTS with per voice real time filters. I wonder if it would be possible taking advantage of the GPU, it might require 2 plugins that sync. I am glad that you are doing stretching now. I hope it will be easy to use. I like playing around with simpler, possibly add a resonator to the rack for extra sound design power over just the filter and envelope. But I would like an easy to use 3rd party software that can be used in a similar way (in other daws, and possibly for DAWproject files). Sure, it will not do filtering and so on before version 4, but I can wait. Waves CR8 can do this, but I am not spending money on that company, probably ever again. In theory Avenger should be able to do it, but when I tried, it only offered the Z plane stretching for multi-sample sources, at least as far as I could tell, but that was in V1.something. Possibly serato sample can do something like that, but the interface is confusing if you want to use it as an instrument, so I am not sure. From a passing comment in the video, it seems like PCM won't be able to do morphing, and that is a bit of a letdown. I wish Soundpaint was NKS enabled. I know there are limitations. And native instruments could simplify the process or making previews, by at least in the stand alone version offer a sound-recorder built in made for making previews, and storing them in the right place with the right name. There is no other solution at this moment to scroll through a lot of presets with previews when one is looking for a sound. It would have been great if there was an open standard for that, so it could be directly implemented by all vst makers and work directly in the DAW. From my understanding even with the Kontrol Sxx mk3 series, there is still the limitation of just 1 tag in the hardware, although the software support multiple tags. I am involved with a program for people with disabilities, and it helps participants finding sounds. We are in the process of investing in sounds and computers, and because of the lack of NKS, soundpaint was not even under consideration, even though I personally like several of the expansions a lot (some of them though, because the keys sound vastly different would not make a lot of sense with previews). I guess I would have also liked to see chord and sequence tools. NI added that to kontakt. But there are lots of software from for example Ujam, Sonuscore, Sonokinetic, troontrack that offers that built in. And then there is of course Nexus, Avenger and Opus Orchestra. Playing single keys, or chords, and have it sound like a full composition/arrangement is fun, but when you break it down, and use parts, it can be a really efficient way of finding the phrases you need, especially when you aren't that experienced. And if it lives outside the patch, sequences/phrases can be used with other expansions, without having to save and load from within the patch.
We hope so too, Jon! We’re introducing PCM first, but RTS has been many years in the making and operates on a completely different architecture. GPU audio is also an area of growing interest for us. The new Time Pro PCM stretcher took nearly a year to develop, with a couple of Ph.D.-level engineers tackling the challenge-and we’re still refining it. Our goal is to bring this technology into RTS, just like we plan to enable morphing from PCM. It’s all a matter of time, priorities, and resource allocation. These developments are far from trivial and can take months to perfect. The same goes for NKS, which we fully intend to support, along with laying the groundwork for full MPE control in Soundpaint 4.0, enabling per-voice PCM. Great questions. Keep em' coming. Cheers, Troels
@@Soundpaintmusic From a previous reply by you, I was expecting that the filter option would not come with the full RTS format. Did not know it was going to be PCM based. But I have no idea how much resources it used, or if it is available for commercial use. Cool that you might add NKS support. I was not expecting that. So are you abandoning rts?...what will be the rationale for what libraries are released in rts vs pcm?...so if the benefits of rts over pcm were so compelling, why go back when storage is not a controlling variable anymore?...im confused
Great questions! So we are not abandoning RTS, we will be hosting two audio formats (RTS and now PCM). RTS is still great and has a lot of benefits, like morphing etc. PCM just opens up more things we can do in the engine later down the line. It will make more sense and we'll elaborate more when we issue the 4.0 update. There are benefits to both formats, so Soundpaint now has the ability to run both. Hope that helps clear up some confusion :)
@@Soundpaintmusic So will future libraries be released in both formats and the user chooses which version to install? Does that mean we will no longer be able to morph layers if we choose the PCM versions? I thought morphing was the whole USP of soundpaint?!
@@davidmcpoland5286 I suspect that you choose which one you load, not which one you install. At this point no morphing with PCM (but according to Troels they are working on it), but instead you will get per voice filters so you can use the sound as a waveform in a synth (and they are hoping to at some point being able to achieve that with the RTS format as well).
@@davidmcpoland5286 Very important questions. It depends on the library. RTS is optimal for some libraries, our Drum libraries as an example benefit greatly from our velocity morphing. Other libraries benefit from PCM (most of our Hybrid Cinema and Synth libraries for example) for both size reasons and later on Filters with our 4.0 update. PCM is also optimal for orchestral libraries for both size and fidelity reasons (no spectral artifacts in PCM) We are working on developing morphing for PCM, so we will not be abandoning that feature!
