I did these myself as well but the play in the end is caused by the clip being bent. In the video u can see the clip wobbling when it was laid on the table because it is curved. This causes the tension between the cylinder and the bracket. By pressing that clip in I think the clip was bent straight causing play. This is what I encountered as well so maybe this will help.

Exactly. I wouldn't use this technique on that retainer clip.
