Ward followed in by RJ , who was having a bit of trouble holding off some kid named McGrath or something like that. Johnny O Mara was riding very well till an unfortunate trip over the bars thru the long whoop section ended both his day and his plans to put in a ride to be proud to end a career with, at the Anahiem SX the following weekend. Instead he ended his career sitting alongside a dusty section of whoops, swearing loudly, and later stating the cause of the crash to be contact with Larry Brooks. However, Johnny had nobody within 20ft of him, I had it on video and might still. Plus I know Larrys day ended badly, hitting an infield telephone pole hard enough to make it wobble and yank others by the wires. The sound of it and the crowds sympathetic reaction is audible. A shout out to my very good friend, the late Tracy Monterone, Yamaha mounted #66 , who is missed for many reasons, and very badly at that. Missed for his incredible ability to so smoothly arc thru the deepest ruts, then out of them through the nastiest potholes that had others hammering while Tracy just glided away so smoothly. For his insane ability to first will himself to attempt, then (usually) successfully make dangerous jumps that with no margin for error had riders of the caliber of Jeff Ward and Matiasevich, saying no Fu#*ing way!! Monterone is nuts !! And also his unique style of crashing! Seemingly in total control, he would inexplicably explode off the bike in spectacular fashion. You may have seen both his skills if you have seen LBZs ReChromed. Tracy is the headcase who jumps over the train in Baker Ca. I think it is, then later loses it over some dunes and sits vibrating later on. Only Tracy..
