When I run, literally as soon as I start, my ankles start to seize up, they get very painful, then the pain radiates up my shins. My ankles basically go numb and I end up stomping. It hurts SO incredibly much! I'm 18, and not sporty, but slim. I thought it was shin splints, but apparently only athletic people get that! :) Any ideas of what is wrong with meeeee?

cupcakecrazy02 anyone can get shin splints, try using a foam roller it could be knots in your muscles or go to a GP or look on the internet.

      1. Start off on softer ground like grass or treadmill. 2. Good shoes can make a world of difference. I recommend a specialist running shop to find the right shoe, not just any running shoe, one that matches your gait, and feels right.

Thanks for the Video! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Schallingora Smart Business Scheme (search on google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for stopping your painful shin splints minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cooworker at last got amazing results with it.

Hi cupcakecrazy02, think you should get to doc to check it out. Have to check back, nerve tension leading into the ankles and rule out compartment syndrome where the circulation gets affected leading into the area. Make it a priority, they might do scans and then you will know. Let me know how you go. Paul

Hi, would you know why my ankles twist when I try to run. I can do bout 1 day a week but more than that they just twist and a worry about 'landing' when taking steps. I have very chunky ankles so the should be strong

Hi RIF REV, when I try to run with my sprint shoes (so landing with my forefoot) I feel pain in the lower medial plant (it should be the longitudinal plantar arch). Whatching my feet while I run I noticed that when the feet impacts with the ground, my ankle medialize (so it shifts medially). Any advice to correct this bad position?
I hope my explanation is understandable :P By the way, I never have practised athletics before. Gonna start on september!

Great video, very informative. I quiet often get pain in my ankles often alongside sore shins and a tight calf muscle (always left!?). I've been running for years, but often use stretches or strengthening as rehab instead of prevention. Running on the track often flares it up, I assume as the club always run anti-clockwise. Any exercises you'd recommend I add to a daily routine? Cheers. Rob

at 0.35 sec you aren't pointing to the lateral malleolus! The malleolus is your ankle bone. makes me question to accuracy of this video!

Hi RifRev, while running (and particularly with my lighter shoes) when I increase my pace, my left foot rotates from the out to the inside impacting the ground pretty hard. My left get kinda weak and then I begin stomping and reduce my pace again. I'm guessing its because of over supination . How can I correct it what exercises should I do to strengthen my ankle to provide more stability. Thanks
