Yesterday my local dealer called that they have a MT-09 SP available in their demo fleet, and today you give me a great review of the bike. I feel like you're gonna cost me a lot of money, Mr. Flyer....
In my opinion the MT09 is the best naked bike ever made! I have had mine for 3 years and never got bored of it .It is very cool looking, comfortable , very torquy and powerful! The CP3 engine is out something else! I`m just in love with it !
Good stuff. I basically made my Tracer a SP. Got Ohlins suspension, re mapped ECU but still need a quick shifter, unfortunately cost more than $800. The SP is a good deal over the standard 09 in my opinion
I tried a demonstrator of one of these a couple of days ago. My day bike is a 2000 Honda Blackbird which I find a bit scrunched up as I get on a bit. The MT-09 is a hoot. I loved it. It’s a hooligan but perfectly controllable and light as a feather. I found the suspension a bit stiff but I’m sure that could be dialled in to my liking no problem at all. The mirrors aren’t great and the display is crap. The switchgear is also a bit iffy, particularly the indicators. No centre stand and no option to fit one. That’s a pain and one of the reasons I recently got rid of my Tiger 1050. The MT-09 SP was comfortable if you can put up with the wind blast but was loads of fun to ride. It’s on my short list. Plus points are the engine, weight and suspension. I didn’t find it vague at the front end as I’ve heard from some reviews and I could swing it through the bends with confidence. Negative points are as above. My blackbird is 19 years old and will eat it alive in most departments though it doesn’t have the fun factor. A set of bar risers has improved the comfort no end. Other than comfort and weight I still struggle to find a bike that can compare. The MT 09 SP is a great bike and loads of fun but no way could it keep up with a 19 year old Blackbird for power, stability and out and out speed. It’s a fun bike worth real attitude and I love it so it may very well end up in my garage but for fun days in the sun when I’m feeling playful about the speed limit. If I want warp speed and really want to shift on the Blackbird still rules.

Totally stunned you’d say you might prefer this bike over the MT-10...Seeing how you loved that bike. I bought my FZ-09 after seeing your initial review. And, I love it! Easiest bike I’ve ever ridden. An angry, rude, and cocky looking wheelie machine. Super fun. And, it brought me to this channel which I thoroughly enjoy, too.
...only in that it's probably more usable, I loved the MT10 SP as you recall, but it might be a bit too much for the road (the same as the Super Duke R and S1000R).....all brilliant bikes though, a golden era we're in eh?
I have a '18 MT09 that has EVERYTHING done to it, exhaust/flash, rizoma, Lightech and best of all K-Tech suspension front and rear.....Cheers on the awesome suspension over there in the UK!
Excellent review! You were sort of right about mt09 2107 quickshifter. US version doesn't have it, EU version has it by default. It's 12 degrees, sunny day and bank holiday today in Prague. Ima rideeeeeeeeeee mine :DD
Great review mate.. originally from Yorkshire England but now living in sunny Australia This is going to be my next bike I had the new Z1000 2 years ago Then bought the Tiger 800 adventure bike this year. Decided its not for me. But the MT09sp is my kinda bike.
I have a '14 MT-09 (the original model with the aggressive fueling) that I bought brand new, it's got Ohlins, Titanium Akrapovic and ECU flash etc etc (no ABS or TC) but I'm actually thinking of buying a new Street Triple RS instead. The MT-09 has so much torque and power that it's really easy to upset it mid corner and the front wheel just lifts off the ground under acceleration in 1st & 2nd and even in 3rd, 4th & 5th if it hits a bump, which is all good and all and demonstrates the power of that amazing engine BUT it gets old quick, sometimes you just want to be able to ride fast and smooth without the thing trying to kill you. Absolutely stunning engine with an epic sound from the titanium Akra and the bike itself now handles like a dream since fitting the Ohlins and Andreani fork cartridges and I'm going to be extremely sad to see it go but i just don't think it's all that usable on the road. From what I've experienced with the MT-09 and read about the Street Triple RS it seems that the MT is a pure demonstration of torque and the Street Triple RS is more focused on getting you from A to B smoothly and quickly. I need to save a few more pennies before I can outright afford the Street Triple RS with Arrow exhaust so I'll test ride one this Summer and if I like it I'll order a new one in Spring 2019.
Lovely warm and friendly "Hi kids" video. Like riding pillion with a best mate. Very informative on all the salient points. Nicely edited, and a joy to watch, as per usual. Thank you for all your efforts to keep us informed and entertained. Bravo dear fellow !
Great Review just a bit quick on the walk around . I appreciate the comments about 'white line counting' for speed assessment because on this bike you need it. The instrument dash appears to blur every time you accelerate beyond the low sixties!
I got an 07 in the end as with the hike in "London town" insurance premiums I couldn't stretch it but I'm probably gonna sell my 18 plate in two years and get me an SP 😉
I own a 2014 MT-09 and you're absolutely right about the horn button :) It's very annoying. I'm curious about the new ohlins suspension, I think I'll test drive the new SP to see if it makes sense to upgrade mine. Thanks for the review ;)
Hey TMF, my wife is a big triumph fan like yourself, and when in the market for a new bike, she was leaning heavily towards the Tiger. Until I got her to try this MT09's sister bike, the MT09 Tracer. She absolutely loves it, and I reckon you've been converted to the Yammie too, after this review. That triple is better than Triumphs in my opinion. They do make exceedingly good bikes! 😁
I have watched the history of Yamaha on RUclips Sir and one of the points they have always considered in production is "Beauty". This is so obvious in this bike and others too. The overall quality is excellent and the touches on the exhaust and the pipes in front prove the point to me. Thanks again for anther fine review......Sal : )
I use to own a tracer, I sold it and bought the MT-09. For L.A. traffic the MT09 is more nimble, quick and agile as compared to the tracer. I added an MRA screen to reduce wind buffeting.
I had to replay the part where you said you’d choose this bike over the Triumph Speed Triple. I was sure I heard that wrong the first time but upon further review that’s exactly what you had said! That was high praise indeed for the Yamaha so Triumph best take note! 😉 All joking aside I do think Yamaha has finally got the MT09 right with the SP set up.
Another good review Flyer, and a great line: "it's just like a puppy that wants to please all the time". Your walk-arounds just wouldn't be the same without that strategically placed glove on the ground either. I did notice some vibration at higher RPM though, the speedo kept blurring! BTW, Powerbiking Sam's chuffed to little mintballs too, I was chatting with him this last week!
Great review TMF, I love the paintwork on the SP models. I was never a fan of the yellow and battleship grey. I’m not a huge fan of the looks personally but I think you get a lot of bike for the money and no shortage of fun factor. If you like fun and like the looks it’s a very good option.
Excellent review! I’m a bit split on looks (prefer street triple approach rather than super Moto) and a bars a a bit too wide for filtering (nothing beats a sports bike) but if I had a money I’d be seriously tempted to get one of those. Shame about the tank size though.
Hi TMF I'm torn between the Yamaha mt09 sp and the new KTM 790 Duke, are you going to do a review/testride anytime soon? I would really like to know what you think about the bike vs. The Yamaha mt09 sp. Thnx 4 gr8 vids m8!!!!!
Thanks for the review, TMF. I think the whole MTO9/XSR900 range is incredible bang for the buck. Personally like XSR900s looks better, but nevertheless, like you say, Yamaha seem to have hit gold with their latest offerings.
First,, love your reviews nice to see a mature review,I've been going back and forth between the mt 9 and the mt 10 for the price the 9 is incredible and as much as I love the 10 I feel the 9 is just a better fit for my roads and use .... and long term across the board the 09 is the way to go ,,plenty of power
Mark Vonlay agreed. Did you end up getting one? I put a deposit on the 9 today. The 10sp is more than 6k AUD more than the 9sp. And its way too much bike for me.
Love the video, I'm considering the MT09SP as my next bike and I'm curious, when you say it's faster than your Street Triple, which version do you own the 675 or 765?.
I’m taking the street triple out this weekend and I may try to get a test on the mt09 next weekend and do a comparison. Great review and nice bike although I prefer the older street triple bug eyes.
Have a tracer 900 and put 5k miles on her. Can’t recommend them highly enough. That cp3 engine is so much better than people realise. Sure, for £8k the build quality isn’t as good as some £12k bikes, but still a bargain. A cracking all rounder.
Thank you for yet another good review! Too bad that you couldn't give it a real go on the twisties because of the road condition to see real difference in suspension! Now, we are counting on you to review Tracer 900 GT somewhere in July when it comes out. I have standard one and am really interested in difference in suspension departement.
Thanks TMF another cracking review. Got to say that although my preference is towards British and Italian bikes the MT-09 looks brilliant, if I was in the market well worth considering as everyday bike.
Hi! Great review. You said the MT feels quicker than your Street Triple, but which model of Street is that, the 675cc or the newest 765cc? I'm looking for a fun, agile and effective bike, but cannot decide between the Triple R, the 790 Duke or the MT09 SP! Thanks!
Excellent vlog Sir. All my cumulative knowledge of triple engines has been gleaned from your good self. You stated that you loved the familiar note from the MT09, to my novice ears it sounded more whiney than your Street Triple and any of the many three cylinders you've reviewed, perhaps I'm havering.
TheMissendenFlyer Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has no interest in doing wheelies on a street bike. I just know I'll drop it and break my leg. Maybe on a supermoto, or a pushbike
Nice bike! I'd have bought one if I could've afforded it. I also like how they've sorted the tail tidy issue out. Tail tidy was always the first thing new bike buyers need to do, but with this sweet factory tail end, there's no need. After months of umming and ahhing over the BMW G310R or the Duke 390, I finally just bought myself a little 2016 Yamaha MT-03 ABS for commuting, and I love it! Such a sweet little twin engine. I've ridden lots of bikes, last one I rode was a 2017 R1200GS Triple Black on a big 2500 Km tour, but I just really enjoy riding my little MT-03. It's perfect for commuting. So light and agile, with a super smooth gearbox and engine, and when you get up in the rev range it sounds and goes great. I just need to get a Tail Tidy. I don't even want to change the exhaust from factory, as I want it quiet when I get home late at night, but it still sounds great when the revs get up there. I'd still quite like an MT-09 SP though...
I believe that Yamaha have a factory tail tidy that can be fitted if you don't like the standard one, but I guess it depends on the local laws. (All good here in NZ)
Well i swapped my GSX S1000 for the above bike about 2 month ago and wow the engine is just awesome...you have a mix of bottom end grunt and a top end power...just put on a aftermarket exhaust and that sound !! looking forward to putting a few miles on her...
@@steveizett3340 funnily enough I've just chopped the mt in for another gsx s but the F version this time. Would I say it's better/like it more ? 🤔 they are different rides all together, the MT is a great bike and I had mine mapped which made it even better but I just love Suzuki's. I would recommend if you're thinking of buying either take both out for test rides !
Great video, you should give the MT 07 a go so you have gone on the whole family, Its my first bike (A2) and honestly for a big bike its so friendly and even lighter than the 09, Plus with an after market can on it, sounds like a nice big V8.
Had a test ride on an Mt09 over 4 yrs ago now, loved it. But the one issue I had was on a stretch of the M1 - J13 to J12 returning the bike to Flitwick Yamaha (wonderful people) - was that it felt like a pogo stick on what was then pretty bad motorway surface. It's too easy to get distracted by faster or fancier bikes (and I did), but this is probably one of the best and still fun general purposes bikes around. That new suspension just improves it.
Rode one today. Engine was outstanding but test break and suspension not great. At 6.1i also felt a bit cramped and there was weight on my wrists. Rode the MT10 after and it was a muddy better fit for me. Also the brake and suspension felt better.
Not really no, this is a beautiful bike, but money no object I'd have the V4 over the MT10SP - but taking value for money into account, MT10SP wins hands down - you would not be disappointed with one of these...
Lovely bike, enjoyed that review, looks like it could be a bit of a beast! Bought my first biker leather jacket yesterday, a Dainese Freccia 72, lovely jacket, looking forward to wearing it soon! 😊
I test rode this too yesterday. I liked it a lot, great fun but it seemed a bit small for me and the seat seemed pretty uncomfortable. Handling is awesome though. I got a free goodie bag for doing the test ride too! T-shirt, cap, neck warmer etc. Can't be bad!
Awesome review of the bike I'm seriously considering, well the tracer 900 GT sport tourer to be exact with the same engine displacement. That bike will arrive in the US later this year. Always value your opinion, in this case I was all smiles 😁 thank you, happy Easter weekend to ya ✌️
Nice review and nice looking bike...can’t help thinking though that the öhlins adjustment sticks out like a sore thumb, can’t come up with anything else to note without riding it. If I was out for a new bike It would surely be on my list. This segment has so many nice choices that it’s really difficult to decide and the 09 SP surely raised the bar with the combination of price and equipment offered. Hope other brands follow.
Nice bike, nice review. On Ducati's SP stands for "Sports production" so i assume it's the same on a Yamaha. Not sure about the offset dash looks wise.
Won me on the last secs when you made a sum up of your channel. That was my first time in one of your vids . Found it nice how you tried to describe your channel in a few words for me. Earned my sub. 😜 great review btw.
Great review Mr Flyer. Very impressive bike for the money... everything the Stripe RS has plus a quickshifter, at over a grand less! It's just the Transformer-ish looks that don't sit well with me. A small cowl above the headlights (a la Striple) would help I reckon.
13:36 the lights aren't the issue its the off centre display that looks more odd. Makes it look a bit unfinished to me. I'm looking for a fly screen for my sp which keeps the lights but covers the display.
The only way that crossplane works on a triple is.... Marketing. Great video and the 09 is a good bike, with this upgraded suspension I may have to test ride one... I doubt that it will tempt me away from my MT-10 though.
Thanks again for another great vid. Always chuckle when I see your progress hindered by the inevitable white van. Have you considered some advanced riding lessons? Road-craft and better positioning would help you to get a better view past/around other vehicles. Not being critical but I firmly believe we all have room for improvement when it comes to keeping us safe on the road! Regards.
I can promise you that I’d never hold you up in my white merc sprinter lwb as it spends most of its time on the Rev limiter and it handles really well through the corners😀
Great vid as usual! At the beginning of the video you mentioned that the standard MT 09 doesn't have a quickshifter. Just to correct you it does actually have a quickshifter (upshifts only). I have the 2017 09 so can confirm this! Its Just the original pre 2017 model that did not have the QS
I’m well pleased! Be sure I’ll watch this review a zillion times until my own 09SP arrives at my garage 😉 If you remember, we had the same problem with switchgear on our little CRF’s the horn is where the indicators usually are. You know what? I’m actually preferring where Honda put them now and when riding other bikes finding them unusual lol. My point is, switchgear isn’t that big of an issue, maybe at first, but something we get used to. Some people complained about the oem tires on this bike, mainly MCN test riders. Did you experience anything unusual or unsafe?
TheMissendenFlyer That’s because you don’t ride the little CRF often enough ;) can’t blame you when you have the luxury of riding so many different and awesome bikes.
You think that it's a good starter bike? Here in Switzerland we have the option to buy one at the age of 18 but with "only" 48 hp and after 2 years we can open it up to 115 hp. I like the hole Masters of torque series but the MT-09 stands out like no other bike does to me. Great videos mate, keep it going :)
For the average rider, Just adjusting the suspension on the standard bike makes a world of difference. It takes very little time and should be done by the dealer as part of the bikes set up.
I test rode a FZ09 (MT09) back in October. I loved the engine but didn't like the small switchgear with my XL size hands. I also wasn't a fan of the small off-centered display. I'm really looking forward to the Tracer 900GT later this year; same engine but in a sport touring version--and CRUISE CONTROL!
I wish the tail end was closer to the MT07. I think the flatness lets it down. Great bike though, that amazing triple engine with the added bonus of sub 200k wet weight is pretty amazing.
Was really tempted by one of these a month back, but got distracted by the Street Triple and ordered a 765R instead. I remember from riding the original MT09 that the seat was really hard and didn’t care for the riding position out of town, but the engine was fantastic... One thing not mentioned in any MT09 review is that the LED headlights are abysmal, there is a youtube vid somewhere. Try and find it if you fancy a MT09 and plan on riding at night.
Hi TMF! Another great video, thank you. Have you ridden its cousin the MT-09 Tracer? (I like the idea of the panniers and front screen.) Would be keen to hear your thoughts on the Tracer version.
Thanks TMF! (Believe it or not, I did search for it myself, but couldn't find it. Typical man-hunt-thing I guess. Ha ha.) Just watched it! Very informative as always. Thanks again, and for taking the time to reply.
Greetings from the US! I'm torn between the F900R and the MT-09. I currently have a '17 R1200RT which I LOVE - and I just want a second naked bike to tool around on. I rode a bonneville but the seating position was just not for me. I'm having a very rough go of getting a test ride on the MT09 - how would you compare it to the BMW? In other words - - which would you buy? ;-)
Police officer : Excuse me sir, can you explain why you were speeding? TMF: Well ah, I can't see the speedo cause every time I twist the throttle it goes all blurry. In all seriousness, I'm loving the reviews. Keep up the good work.
Nice video of a great bike TMF! I would be pretty tempted by one of these if I needed to replace my Street! I wonder if they'll update the Tracer soon too? Since I don't NEED one; I don't think I could justify trading in my Street (which offers 80% of what bike this does) plus another £5k! But she's a beauty none the less!
I can imagine; do you need another three cylinder naked bike in the garage!? That's what it comes down to for me. If I buy something else it has to offer something "else". We never did look into whether I was one of your "oldest" (earliest) subscribers. I'm going to talk a bold punt and say first 200 (if it turns out easy enough to check)! :-)
I rode the non SP this morning. It does have a quick shifter (up only), but it was tricky/sticky between 2nd and 3rd and 5th and 6th. The saleslady said it was a brand new bike and maybe needed wearing in a bit. Nice bike. Did you notice the seat tilted you forward a bit? I was deliberating between this and the Street Triple, but when I heard that the 12k mile service on the Triumph is £1000+, I immediately dismissed the Triumph.
Lovely looking bit of kit Mr Flyer, but strewth I for some reason thought the SP version got the full Ohlins front & back like the MT10SP. Im still in love with the MT10SP's auto Ohlins kit. Has to be one of the greatest shock set ups out there. Still though, lovely bike. It seems to me all thats missing is a Speedo Angels cover! heh heh! Cheers Groover! ;-)
completely off subject : Just got myself a new textile jacket, always been into leather in the past (but that's another story) RST Adventure III. Saw you did a review on it, yet to wear it in anger , but fits well and is really comfortable.
Wonder what your opinion is of colored wheels on these various bikes? I have the 2017 model in red and love it. When you give the temperature in Celsius, take a stab at how that would convert to Fahrenheit please and thanks.
Great review. Cant imagen anyone having a more trustworthy opinions about bikes that you imediatly absorb as facts. I think you sold a bunch off MT 09 SPs for Yamaha.
Oh, hearing you say you would prefer this over the street surprised me quiet a bit. I´m currently owning a 09 street and will choose between a 2018 street triple r or an 2018 mt 09 sp for my next purchase. I was mostly sure that it will be the triumph but this video makes me rethink... well it all will come down to the test drives i guess
You were saying you’d actually prefer MT-09 over MT10. If I’m not mistaken the MT10 you rode was a previous model (not thé 2018 one). Would you keep that statement for the new model ? It was about weight feeling which according to the specs is 17 litres less on the MT-09. I’m asking because I’m actually struggling between the two of them and still didn’t make up my mind. Besides, thanks for the great videos you deliver. I like them even when I’m not really interested in the machine.
Great review :-) I actually tested one of these today at the MT demo weekend. Great little bike, but I tested the mt10 first, which has a far comfier seat. But both bikes were great to ride :-)
Only other criticism is dash goes all blurry when you accelerate ;)
If we weren't watching TMF we might assume he was ooh speeding(?) but I'm sure not. :)
No, then he would hide 39mph in a 30
That means its going faaaaast!!
Speeding will soon be a hanging offence for bikers the way things are going.

I know the feeling. Bought a superduke GT after the TMF review without a test ride. Review was spot on.
Keep your wallets locked up lads, this one is a corker!
Buried on a tropical island and without a treasure map ;)
Same here bought a T120 on TMF review, couldn't be happier especially after the de-cat
And I bought a tracer gt! Who said you tube was free?

Nice!
Maybe "SP" stands for something like "Suspension Package", since that is the main difference between SP and standard version.
SP originally meant Sport Production
an MT-09 review without wheelies.. a rare gem
I liked it that much whilst doing a first ride impressions video, that I bought one when I eventually returned it to the dealer
..that is nearer the truth than you think!
You might have to change your name from veefour to cp3 triple?

I need to save a few more pennies before I can outright afford the Street Triple RS with Arrow exhaust so I'll test ride one this Summer and if I like it I'll order a new one in Spring 2019.
Rip I did the same to my 2014 FZ09 and love it
Lovely warm and friendly "Hi kids" video. Like riding pillion with a best mate. Very informative on all the salient points. Nicely edited, and a joy to watch, as per usual. Thank you for all your efforts to keep us informed and entertained. Bravo dear fellow !
Thank you Keith - it's because of comments like that I choose to keep making 'em - all the best - TMF
Great Review just a bit quick on the walk around . I appreciate the comments about 'white line counting' for speed assessment because on this bike you need it. The instrument dash appears to blur every time you accelerate beyond the low sixties!
Cheers Dallas - always good to have you along!
I got an 07 in the end as with the hike in "London town" insurance premiums I couldn't stretch it but I'm probably gonna sell my 18 plate in two years and get me an SP 😉
Its your 2 year memory. What u got?
I own a 2014 MT-09 and you're absolutely right about the horn button :) It's very annoying. I'm curious about the new ohlins suspension, I think I'll test drive the new SP to see if it makes sense to upgrade mine. Thanks for the review ;)
Praxis you can get cartridges
Praxis, nu mă așteptam să te găsesc aici :)). Mare fan. 😁
Wish they'd put the speedo in the middle and make it bigger. This put me off buying an MT09 when they came out.
Spoiled for choice these days eh!
Rather have the Tracer, windprotection. I don't like the display; rather small and offset.
The engine is magnificent.
Enjoy the Easter weekend
I use to own a tracer, I sold it and bought the MT-09. For L.A. traffic the MT09 is more nimble, quick and agile as compared to the tracer. I added an MRA screen to reduce wind buffeting.
I had to replay the part where you said you’d choose this bike over the Triumph Speed Triple. I was sure I heard that wrong the first time but upon further review that’s exactly what you had said! That was high praise indeed for the Yamaha so Triumph best take note! 😉 All joking aside I do think Yamaha has finally got the MT09 right with the SP set up.
Are you SURE that's what I said? Speed or Street???
TheMissendenFlyer my bad, I always get Speed and Street mixed up just like MCN!
Thank you sir....always good to have the senior contingent along - PS You'll love Monday's video!
Great review TMF, I love the paintwork on the SP models. I was never a fan of the yellow and battleship grey. I’m not a huge fan of the looks personally but I think you get a lot of bike for the money and no shortage of fun factor. If you like fun and like the looks it’s a very good option.
Sure works for me!
That record scratch you put in when you went you made mistake about colour scheme... I actually lol’d
Excellent review! I’m a bit split on looks (prefer street triple approach rather than super Moto) and a bars a a bit too wide for filtering (nothing beats a sports bike) but if I had a money I’d be seriously tempted to get one of those. Shame about the tank size though.
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
Hi TMF
I'm torn between the Yamaha mt09 sp and the new KTM 790 Duke, are you going to do a review/testride anytime soon? I would really like to know what you think about the bike vs. The Yamaha mt09 sp. Thnx 4 gr8 vids m8!!!!!
I am going to be borrowing the 790 Duke later in the summer - so it'll be a while before you see my reviews (Sorry)!
No problem, I'm not going to buy a bike before 2019, so take your time, I know you'll give a stellar review like you always do! 👍
Thanks for the review, TMF. I think the whole MTO9/XSR900 range is incredible bang for the buck. Personally like XSR900s looks better, but nevertheless, like you say, Yamaha seem to have hit gold with their latest offerings.
Yes I did love the XSR too - guess it's just down to which you like the look of....
I have the 675R - a 2012 (so a bit more hooligan than the later models which got dumbed down for Euro 4)....
I’m taking the street triple out this weekend and I may try to get a test on the mt09 next weekend and do a comparison. Great review and nice bike although I prefer the older street triple bug eyes.
Yeah me too....
Have a tracer 900 and put 5k miles on her. Can’t recommend them highly enough. That cp3 engine is so much better than people realise. Sure, for £8k the build quality isn’t as good as some £12k bikes, but still a bargain. A cracking all rounder.
Great feedback - thanks....
Thank you for yet another good review! Too bad that you couldn't give it a real go on the twisties because of the road condition to see real difference in suspension! Now, we are counting on you to review Tracer 900 GT somewhere in July when it comes out. I have standard one and am really interested in difference in suspension departement.
Yes looking forward to giving one of those a go if I can....
Thanks TMF another cracking review. Got to say that although my preference is towards British and Italian bikes the MT-09 looks brilliant, if I was in the market well worth considering as everyday bike.
For sure, with bikes this good your national loyalties get stretched!
Hi! Great review. You said the MT feels quicker than your Street Triple, but which model of Street is that, the 675cc or the newest 765cc?
I'm looking for a fun, agile and effective bike, but cannot decide between the Triple R, the 790 Duke or the MT09 SP!
Thanks!
I have the 675R...
Yes to be fair the Triumph sounds better - but the MT09 has a similar whine about it...
"If I wheely a bike something's gone terribly wrong"
TMF 2018
Brilliant.
....glad you liked it....true statement though...!
TheMissendenFlyer Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has no interest in doing wheelies on a street bike. I just know I'll drop it and break my leg. Maybe on a supermoto, or a pushbike
I hope Yamaha brings the SP varients to the US at some point. Great review as always !
Thank you - and yes, I wonder why they don't, marketing eh?
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
Hi, so you like it a lot more than the gsx-s1000?
@@steveizett3340 funnily enough I've just chopped the mt in for another gsx s but the F version this time.
Would I say it's better/like it more ? 🤔 they are different rides all together, the MT is a great bike and I had mine mapped which made it even better but I just love Suzuki's.
I would recommend if you're thinking of buying either take both out for test rides !
B-E-A-UTIFUL colour scheme! love the black dash too! Also the standard model does have a quick shifter
Yes thanks for that - a few people have mentioned that...
What would I do without TMF on a soaking wet bank holiday weekend. Thanks for keeping me entertained this afternoon :-)
Glad to be of help Nick.....hope the weather clears up soon!
That clock. What were they thinking? I wouldn't see a bloody thing on it.
Great video, you should give the MT 07 a go so you have gone on the whole family, Its my first bike (A2) and honestly for a big bike its so friendly and even lighter than the 09, Plus with an after market can on it, sounds like a nice big V8.
Yeah I do need to give the 07 a go for sure......
Thanks for the comment and I completely agree! All the best - TMF
Rode one today. Engine was outstanding but test break and suspension not great. At 6.1i also felt a bit cramped and there was weight on my wrists. Rode the MT10 after and it was a muddy better fit for me. Also the brake and suspension felt better.
As always, fine vids :) what is your views on mt-09 as semi-tourer?
semi-good I would think - just needs a luggage solution (Backpack? Soft panniers?)
That's my only gripe of the mt series, horn too close to the indicators lol. Nice video though mate.
Just wave everytime you hit the horn.
Hi MS, great review, is it fair to say you were more excited on this bike than the recent Panagale
Enjoy!
Darn it, I should have gone yesterday!
And to you Carl - thanks for watching - TMF
Nice review and nice looking bike...can’t help thinking though that the öhlins adjustment sticks out like a sore thumb, can’t come up with anything else to note without riding it. If I was out for a new bike It would surely be on my list.
This segment has so many nice choices that it’s really difficult to decide and the 09 SP surely raised the bar with the combination of price and equipment offered. Hope other brands follow.
Exactly - it looks like KTM may have followed suit with the 790 Duke....
Nice looking machine, lots of get up and go,whats the stonk value?
Very high I'd say - top level stonk factor...
Nice bike, nice review. On Ducati's SP stands for "Sports production" so i assume it's the same on a Yamaha. Not sure about the offset dash looks wise.
Thanks for that Colin....
What is your opinion on this vs the XSR900 you rode a while ago? Great review!
Tough one both animals! Guess it depends if you like modern or retro....
Won me on the last secs when you made a sum up of your channel. That was my first time in one of your vids . Found it nice how you tried to describe your channel in a few words for me. Earned my sub. 😜 great review btw.
Welcome along!
I don’t mind the blue wheels but the yellow ones kind of scream at me! Thanks for your great reviews.
You’re very welcome!
Good ride as usual, are you getting your hands on the KTM 790 Duke?
I would love too, need to ask KTM about that, no plans yet but I would be disappointed if I don't...stay tuned!
Great review Mr Flyer. Very impressive bike for the money... everything the Stripe RS has plus a quickshifter, at over a grand less! It's just the Transformer-ish looks that don't sit well with me. A small cowl above the headlights (a la Striple) would help I reckon.
Fair do's - I love the transformer looks but get they're not everyone's cuppa Tea....
What are you talking about? ST3 RS does have a quickshifter
Ooops... my mistake!
13:36 the lights aren't the issue its the off centre display that looks more odd. Makes it look a bit unfinished to me. I'm looking for a fly screen for my sp which keeps the lights but covers the display.
I like it odd, matches my personality 😄.
The only way that crossplane works on a triple is.... Marketing.
Great video and the 09 is a good bike, with this upgraded suspension I may have to test ride one... I doubt that it will tempt me away from my MT-10 though.
I doubt it too - but a worthy baby sibling me thinks.....
Regards.
Indeed I have - check out this one from last week ruclips.net/video/aWUY7RoyBbU/видео.html
Yes my mistake, sorry - several people pointed that out...
TheMissendenFlyer sorry I didn't see the other replies! I look forward to your next video!
I’m well pleased! Be sure I’ll watch this review a zillion times until my own 09SP arrives at my garage 😉
If you remember, we had the same problem with switchgear on our little CRF’s the horn is where the indicators usually are.
No the tyres seemed fine to me but then I didn''t push the bike very much.....and I still hate that horn position!
TheMissendenFlyer That’s because you don’t ride the little CRF often enough ;) can’t blame you when you have the luxury of riding so many different and awesome bikes.
TMF we need a shootout between the current mid weight nakeds. I may have shelved my 390 plans for a 790, but will have to consider all these!
TOP NOTCH REVIEW, I will be looking at this bike as my second bike, thanks for the review TMF
You are welcome as ever Jack - loved this one as you saw....
Thanks Sergio - and no, this is not a bike for beginners, sorry about that!
For the average rider, Just adjusting the suspension on the standard bike makes a world of difference. It takes very little time and should be done by the dealer as part of the bikes set up.
Hi, you think it a good for first bike? I know he have much power but I am love this bike and I want to ride safe, so what you think. Thanks
No - too powerful - your choice of course but I would advise against....sorry that's not what you wanted to hear!
Thanks for this TMF, another cracking review. Why is it every time you ride a different bike I want one!
Sorry about that....but I know the feeling!
Yes those controls were a bit fiddly I agree...
I wish the tail end was closer to the MT07. I think the flatness lets it down. Great bike though, that amazing triple engine with the added bonus of sub 200k wet weight is pretty amazing.
Agreed Toby....and thanks for watching!
Yes I've not had a chance to ride one at night so a good observation - thanks...
Hi TMF! Another great video, thank you. Have you ridden its cousin the MT-09 Tracer? (I like the idea of the panniers and front screen.) Would be keen to hear your thoughts on the Tracer version.
I have indeed...ruclips.net/video/0YAfnT375h4/видео.html
In other words - - which would you buy? ;-)
I think I'd have the BMW.....
The tank is very like the MV Agusta one, very sculptured
next week I ll be at powerbiking to test 07 and 09. SP looks smashin tbh..
Say Hi to Sam from me!
Police officer : Excuse me sir, can you explain why you were speeding?
TMF: Well ah, I can't see the speedo cause every time I twist the throttle it goes all blurry.
In all seriousness, I'm loving the reviews. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Kram - will do....
good to see you on some Yamaha's....my brand of choice..... :)
:0)
excellent review,i am considering one these myself, love the tourqey engine,my only concern is tank range.
Yeah I'm in exactly the same place mate!
It seems to me all thats missing is a Speedo Angels cover! heh heh! Cheers Groover! ;-)
That's easily put right!
completely off subject : Just got myself a new textile jacket, always been into leather in the past (but that's another story) RST Adventure III. Saw you did a review on it, yet to wear it in anger , but fits well and is really comfortable.
Yep - I'm a fan (although I actually prefer the Adventure 1 without the external shoulder guards and word "Adventure" slapped all over it)...
must admit I'd prefer not to "Adventure" stuck on it. Though I do like the shoulder guards.
Wonder what your opinion is of colored wheels on these various bikes? I have the 2017 model in red and love it. When you give the temperature in Celsius, take a stab at how that would convert to Fahrenheit please and thanks.
I like the coloured wheels on the MT09 and MT10, but I get they’re not for everyone. Thanks for watching - TMF
Nice in depth review as always sir!
Thanks...
I’m deciding between the MT-09 SP or the street triple RS and your review has helped a lot. 👍
So what did you end up getting?
@@Sheep101 MT09SP
@@SckippyDee
Have the S22 rubber fitted and you have a perfect match 😎🏁✌️
Through my earphones it sounds like a jet engines first ignition just before it fires up lol
Great review. Cant imagen anyone having a more trustworthy opinions about bikes that you imediatly absorb as facts. I think you sold a bunch off MT 09 SPs for Yamaha.
That's very kind of you to say so - if only Yamaha appreciated that I could have some commission!! :0) Thanks for watching....
Yes have a test ride and you might be surprised like I was. All the best TMF
Aren't they just - lovely machines....
I’m really torn between the street triple rs and the mt09 🙈 hopefully get a test ride on both soon. Until then, what are your thoughts?
Well I've got a Street Triple - nuff said?
