    If you’re on a good twisty mountain climb or some big sweeping corners it starts really running pure and powerful at 7,000 rpm and up. It becomes the bike it was designed to be at aggressive revs. Just send it and you won’t be able to believe the amount of fun you’ll be having. You’ll be screaming into your helmet with joy. I do! I lent mine to my mate and he rode it hard and looooved it so much he went out and bought one the next day. It’s crazy fun and I beat my mate three times in a row over The Macquarie Pass, south of Sydney and he was on a BMW S1000RR and he can truly ride. The MT-09 is so nimble and quick too. The review was excellent but you need to ride this bike MUCH, MUCH harder and rev MUCH higher than this review to get the full experience. Ring it out!

      Cheers brother and thanks for adding feedback for others! Unfortunately dont have the best roads to really push the bike hard, hoping to start adding track day reviews where bike will be pushed a lot more. Just working out how I can convince manufacturers to lend me bikes for the track 😂

    You mentioned about the seat.
    That isn't the standard seat on the bike you tested.
    That is the seat from the MT09 Street Rally and Street Tracker.
    It's far flatter and taller than standard.
    I fitted one on my MT09 as I found it more comfortable over a long distance.
    Good review ☺

    That CP3 engine is a beast. Keeps up with 1litre bikes .the only thing I don't like is how they are jumping up in price since 2016, the sp is a few grand more ,it's good but it's not 10k good .

    @chb1603 5 лет назад +2

    Hi Tom, another very good review, thank you! As I stated before, I really like yamaha's 3zyl. engine. The MT09 looks great (blue and also black version), since I slightly prefer the retro style bikes I would chose the xsr900 from yamaha, which got the same engine and also the same frame (as far as I know). Kawa offers similar "sibling bikes" z900 - z900rs and as you know I'm riding the rs version. Not sure about it but I think from yamaha one gets a little more for the money (e.g. quickshifter) than from kawa (?) - however, I guess its more a matter of taste....
    By the way do you know the service intervals yamaha is specifiing? Kawa wants the bike every 6000km for service, which are pretty short intervals and I'm not really happy with that.
    I only have to disagree with one thing you said: I would NEVER keep the number plate as it is with the mt09... :-)) probably I would somehow mount it at the side of the swingarm...
    greetings, christopher

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 лет назад

      Thanks Chris! Not sure on the service intervals but I thought most were oil and filter around the 4-5k mile mark? Quick shifter is good... not sure if you have tried one before but it's a wonderful thing to have.

      @TommyBarnezTV  5 лет назад

      Personally around 600 I'd go with honda cbr650r. Great fun, though not really suited to long ride as a few pains after an hour or so for me. Alternatively if you want a workhorse around that cc the v strom 650 is seriously capable. Not a particularly sexy bike but I've put over 35k miles on mine in 2 years.

    Ah, I wondered where the fellow Kent bikers were at on youtube. Looking at an 09 in the blue colour scheme almost makes me regret ordering the SP instead of the base model, but if the suspension on the base model 09 is anything like the 07 I've been riding, I'll sacrifice pretty colours for better suspension every time.

  • @lucyferina

    In the USA our plates are quite a bit smaller, that said, everyone here does fender eliminator kits , so if you don't want to look like everyone else, you leave it stock, and actually mod things that matter like a better seat, mirror extenders if you are tall like me bar end mirrors are useless since they sit too low and I happen to like the look of the stock. Radiator cover, sliders if you are into that, and if you really want to spend the money suspension upgrade which has to be both front and back which is not cheap. Here you might be wasting your money getting a loud exhaust since you will be getting pulled over just because cops hate sport bikes, without they might not even see you since they can't hear you coming, and that "loud pipes save lives"bullshit is just that bullshit, I have seen bikes with loud pipes scare drivers into swerving into their lane and take them down rather than notice them....

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 лет назад

      Not sure of the rules in the US but when a new bike is sold here the most rear part of the bike has to be the number plate. All regulation size etc. Most bikes get a tail tidy as a result. I do quite like the way Yamaha have embraced the rules a bit here and designed something a little different.
      With regards to 'loud pipes save lives' I think there is a happy medium ground. My daily is very quiet with stock and I notice a difference riding other bikes, especially when filtering where I think it makes a big difference to being spotted sooner. Stock on the MT09 sounds fine for being heard though I think, an exhaust change would be more preference

      Over the two seats I think I preferred the mt 07 however you can get a comfort seat for the mt 09 which I tried out on the mt 10 which was pretty good.
      Unfortunately I wasnt overly impressed with mt 09 though I'm pretty sure that's because I rode the street triple rs before it and the mt 10 after it. The street triple is a much better bike in my opinion and the mt 10 is just mental. As a result the mt 09 kinda got lost a bit for me when thinking about bikes.

    As much as I admire these so called big bikes, I've come to realise what is the point when you can only go 70mph maximum? Unless of course you're an idiot breaking the law every time. In my honest opinion anything above 125cc( some just too slow and weak on motorways) will do the job more than enough if commuting is your primary concern.

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 лет назад +1

      I see your point though excess power available does make travelling more comfortable. Most cars I've had have a top speed in the 150mph mark. Never took the cars to that as spend my time on UK roads where it's not only illegal but more importantly it woudnt be safe. Motorway traffic tends to cruise at 70-85 which bigger engine cars are more comfortable with than lower vehicles that max out at that speed. Completely the same with bikes. I ride a 650cc bike as my daily and cover 25-30k miles a year. It's ok though I know I would be more comfortable on a bigger capacity bike. My speed wouldnt change, would just be comfort.
