Today sitting on toilet.. me thinking "what's inside of my T7? is it maybe a small nvme mounted on an nvme-usbc-adapter?" thanks for answering & saving my time :D
Same here now hahaha
Inside menards toilet
No shit same here
Same here lol, I'm having to deal with a hard one so I have to watch a few videos after this one
I m exactly in the same situation 🚽 😅😂
It's incredible how much speed and capacity can be put into this tiny thing, definitely the best portable SSD in the market
I don't know about the best, maybe for the price it is the best!
its not incredible. macbook storage chips of 1TB are the size of 4 sd cards lol....
That’s what she said…
@@grep-er I'll drink to that!🥃
Bought four of these for $430.
2TB each. Me and some friends emulate games so I’m moving my copy to theirs once I’m done and shipping them.
Nice, saved me the time of doing it. I wasn't sure if there was an m.2 inside perhaps a 2260 or even 2240
That would be in the T5s if they didn't change them and that was mSata. I saw a teardown vid on one. The nice thing about teardowns like these is you get some idea what you might get, even if you might never tear one down.
This is a nvme with usb to pcie bridge..
@@KuntalGhosh is the bridge soldered to m.2 slot?
thank you for making this video now I finally know what's inside T7 SSD
Thank you I was going to buy one of them and use it as internal ssd but its not so easy. I had an older medion portable hdd and opend it and the hdd could be taken out and put into any pc or laptop. Much apreciated your video saved me money and time. Regards John.
Doesn't that defeat the *external* SSD's purpose?
@@PlayStationPlayer10Rnot if you had an extra one of these laying around and a laptop that needs a hdd. Would need a type c to sata cable defeating the purpose though. Saved me time
Samsung T5 can be taken out, it is an msata drive inside it and you can use an msata to 2.5" adapter to put it into any computer. Samsung T7 as you see in this video is just one board with nothing removable.
Actually REALLY well built
I tore down an old T5 that I regret tearing down, because it still worked, but it was just an eSATA SSD on a board with a USB controller. I’m sure the SSD still works, it’s just in bits and would need a new case.
Looks very clean
Thank you. Recently my my SSD case is unable to be plugged in as the cable is not able to connect anymore. I have been looking for how to open it to remove my SSD.
Nice. What’s under the large shield on the PCB?
The greyish chip? That’s the SSD controller. The USB controller is near the USB port, EEPROM for firmware storage to the top, and the two 512GB flash chips on the right.
Thanks sooooo muchee 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Damn, they can make the thermal better actually
The thermals are fine. The only chip that cares about getting hot is the SSD controller and maybe USB controller to a lesser extent.
NAND actually likes being hot for some reason so they don’t need to be cooled. In fact most SSDs have a heat spreader label, not a heat sink. This is to cool the controller down but warm the NAND up.
Hi! thank you for this very useful video. Unfortunately, my T7 stopped working properly. I could backup file. A case replacemente might solve the problem. Which would be a fitting case? thank you
so if the fragile usb c port ever breaks you will have a hard time salvaging whats on there..
Is Samsung T7 SSD better Speedy than SAMSUNG T7 Shield. ?
Majestic!
Thanks
Wich is the best sandisk or samsung
I thought there would be samsung’s own controller but thats asmedia…is anyone able to read the exact model number?
Interface Controller: ASMedia ASM2362
NAND Controller: Samsung Pablo
Not what I expected at all. I expected an m.2 ssd.
I own 2 of these and 1 of them is flashing blue and then red and it crashes my MacBook Pro. I've tried connecting it to a windows machine and it can see it, but not read it but that could be because it's formatted for Mac. Any ideas on what could be going wrong? It was shared between my iPad and my MacBook pro....
Is there a way to directly connect this in your PC?
Dammit I thought I would be able to get a cheaper external hard drive to tear it apart and it would fit in my ps5 like I've done with all my other systems and a Samsung hd
T5's are mSata, I'm looking too!
I was hoping I could throw it in my kids ps4
You wouldn't want that. Ps5 requires a pcie Gen5 x4 nvme drive.
@@flaffinator7307 Gen4* NVMe, not Gen5.
I was able to get a Samsung 980 pro 2TB for $100 during prime day. The prices have come down by a lot. At this point its probably cheaper to not do that.
Single point of failure usb port.
Is it made in Korea or Vietnam?
Don't buy it! Bought few of them and each started to slow down after 40% capacity used!!!
Sir i have the same i dont know what happend it just show blue light stable not working any help how to fix it ....
Is that pad just conducting into the plastic?
Aluminium
T7 has a metallic case.
bro can you tell which one to go for this one or sandisk confused here
Samsung is better, but sandisk uses NVMe drive.
How is this even shockproof
This shit is 100% proprietary and unrecoverable
this drive is useless now for me, doesn't recognize my fingerprint and i forgot the password. gonna toss it in the bin and buy a new one
Use diskpart in windows and clean the drive and create new part and assign drive letter you should be fine
Fun fact:
The thermal pad on this thing turns to shit after a while and will literally leak white crust from the USB-C port and other small seams in the casing.
Don’t buy these things.
so what will be better instead?
annnnnd it's proprietary junk inside, no thanks!
?
@@kahuna1247 I'd rather have a standard SATA or m.2 SSD internally which gives you more control of your data on the device. The whole point of these portable SSDs are to back up your data externally from the computer and having it proprietary like this takes away your control of the data on the device
@@fromthesnow Its more the safety aspect that matters most, everything hangs on that usb connector not snapping.
@@fromthesnow A SATA or m.2 SSD does NOT give you any more *control* over your data, just more flexibility and arguably more reliability eg. if your enclosure fails the SSD can be moved to a new one. On this drive you still have full control of your data. I'm no Samsung fan but you are spreading FUD.
I see a lot of wasted space
Components spaced for reliability and hardening
Short version: Don't buy this garbage.
OK. Now tell us what to buy, and why.
@@kingoimkenya lol I have one for my games on pc and it’s a nice ssd idk what his problem is
Just another insubstantial comment.
