Paul Pogba is the reason there's no link between mid and attack, not Griezman
This is a great point that has not been covered enough. Pogba has been colossal for France for all his club transgressions
Also Giroud (with holdup play as a focal point, and coming deep), such an underrated part of that World Cup winning team.
Technically its Griezman, he is the most suited for the role in this team but he gets used on the wing instead while they have Dembele, Barcola etc. So instead u see someone like Kante playing as the nr 10 and take shots on the goal even though he cant shoot.

Difference between Deschamps and Southgate though is that Deschamps has earned the right to play this way he's proven for many years that with his style he can go all the way to the final and won a world cup unlike Southgate. I think Greizzman’s poor World Cup final showing and mbappe’s outrageous performance is what led to mbappe being chosen as captain.
The one big reason Petit failed to point out is Kylian Mbappe is missing Paul Pogba. Paul Pogba is the reason France excelled in Euro 2016 and the world cup 2018. He was their best player in Euro 2020 until Mbappe's missed penalty eliminated them against Switzerland. Without Pogba's creativity and long accurate passes to Mbappe, there's a big disconnect between midfield and attack. No French player has the qualities Pogba brings to the team.

Just gonna say it griezman is badly overrated as a player. Pogba is clearly the missing link. Mbpappe gettinf a rough ride but has stepped up in the past (hat trick in worl cup final etc). The french public will go after a certin type of player than others if you know what i mean.

It's amazing how some of these old players talk as if they were flawless in their days! One can criticise and give advise to these players but it feels like Petit is just talking out of hatred and disgust. Why didn't he also comment about Griezzman's poor form in the Euros?
Moreover, the French team from 1998 were not perfect! That's why they were defeated by Senegal (1st timers then) at the 2002 World Cup! And they didn't bulldoze their way through Euro 2000! Apart from Denmark, all their other matches were won with a goal margin and they even lost to the Netherlands in the group stages. So Petit should work on his bitterness!
What happened in 2002 was rather the fault of the French Football Federation. They didn't let them breathe with too many unnecessary preparatory matches when they had all just finished their respective club seasons. It exhausted them more than anything else. There was notably Zidane's injury before the Competition partly because of this, while Robert Pirès was also already injured during his season with Arsenal.
Then the French media who harassed them wherever they were, etc... where the others had given their players time to rest, in France, they took the team to every corner of the globe with more matches. When the World Cup started, they were already in Burnout.
