I love he brought up the hammer from warframe. That game is full of crazy weapons; ranged and melee. Hell, there's a couple melee weapons with guns built into them
As for the Warframe weapons, their thought process was "we have 386,729 Melee Weapons AND a custom Melee Weapon mechanic, so they need to be unique and identifiable, but also in theme with its military of origin"
Judging by the fallout 4 shishkebab's design being a wakizashi with these mechanisms on it, it was probably made with the incendiary portion in mind, at least, in-game anyway
On the case of that particular flaming sword one thing to bear in mind is it comes from a post-apocalyptic raider filled wasteland where the average person is a lot crazier and more dangerous than normal. So I'll make the argument that the flaming part of it in reality wouldn't really do anything to help you would act as an intimidation factor for someone trying to do something like rob a caravan in a hockey mask.
Another argument is that a sword is supposed to cut, but they don’t slice clean through, they would actually get stuck in body parts, also the sword would be heated giving it the effect of throwing a piece of bacon on a hot grill
fire blades, actually the fire would heat up the blade. you ever graze yourself on the top of the oven? you dont have to hold it there to burn you dude. burns happen extremely fast at high heats and metal that is engulfed at all times in fire wouls be constantly searing. not only if you cut would it cauterize the wounds but if you grze them you burn them. the issue is due to being so hot thw blade will be maliable and have basically no durability and need to be constantly repaired and sharped.
@@twilightsparkle75 Depends. If it’s a blade made of a metal with a melting point higher than 1200C°. I don’t think that would be a problem iirc a normal fire is 940C°. Therefore i would surmise it is a miniscule loss of durability
I mean the whole point of the Shishkebab is 3 step process The blade grazes and opens a wound The oil enters the wound and sticks The fire catches the oil and burns
I think the whole point of fallouts flaming sword is that it’s covered in oil, and it produces oil once you hit your target which would immediately catch them on fire. Especially considering most things you come into contact with are fairly armored, it’s expected that you won’t cleanly slice through everything and that’s one way to work around it
I'm pretty sure the flaming sword would work more like those 1000 degree knife things. They go throught stuff like a hot knife through butter, no pun intended
I think the slayer's nice little knife gadget would be extremely powerful. Assuming it's made out of extremely high end materials like the praetor suit, it would be extremely powerful. And in the games Glory kills it's also proven to be extremely Sharp. This thing could chop through man, his best friend, his dog, a tin can, and still make Julian fries.
Judging from an irl standpoint, I think it would suffer the same issue all collapsible bladed weapons do, which is you're essentially trading structural integrity for compactness, since the lower parts of the blade has to be hollow to allow such a mechanism to work. That makes the blade weaker and more prone to snapping the more segments there are in it. Not to mention whatever holds the blade from collapsing prematurely has to be strong to allow stabbing with it, which we see the slayer does.
1st weapon: regenerates, melts by hot/fire weapons (in this case, flamethrowers and the flame sword) 2nd weapon: the heat can make it easier to chop through things, also if it gets stuck in a giant creature, burn it. 3rd: emergency use I guess 4: clown hammer haha
@@user-Insane_Ails True but it’s made to kill them slow he uses it to rip the hearts out of mancubus and make them eat it so I assumed it was meant to prolong suffering
For the flaming sword I think the point of it is really to just have it get hot enough to the point of it needing minimal or no effort when slashing through targets
The "flame sword" could still work as a sword, by having a sharp enough blade as well as the blade being heated this could possibly make it easier to cut through skin as well as it being able to cause a serious infection due to the element of burning, when someone gets burned and blisted your body has difficulty fighting bacteria not to mention that the burn skin (if heated enough) will be dead and decompose causing an even worse infection. Known as staph infections being the worse and hardest to recover from. In a way the heated blade can be one hell of a weapon not because of its cutting capability but because of the fact if the person gets away or you leave then with a wound it may not heal and maybe just kill them anyway because of the burnt flesh of the person themselves. (I'm not a scientist nor a doctor but I have had my fair share of patching myself up... so not all of my words maybe completely factual but they are true enough with some experience to some degree)
Pre-med student here, that's good enough Otherwise it could also go for pain because burning can be one of the most painful things to experience, it should also depend on the intensity of the flame, otherwise it still would incapacitate the person.
Heating metal makes it soft both in the long term and even more so while it's still hot. Keeping metal hot will make it eventually to soft to hold an edge.
metalworking student here, using a heated weapon only in desesperate self defense is still as ridiculous as it is immoral, a flaming sword is impossible to use due to the extreme temperature you'll need and the lenght of the handle, the only weapon that would work while having a heated tip to thousand degrees would be a long pair of tongs or a 2meters long steel bar with a heated tip on one side, bare in mind it is a concept only too impractical and far too cruel to be a thing any of us will ever see
I could be wrong but according to the comics the spycicle is made of plastic, but in tbe actual game I have noticed it melts when you take fire damage.
Flame swords would work against the thing you want to achieve: instead of slicing and cutting, forming wounds.. at sufficient heat.. you would slice and cut... but cauterize any wounds you form... basically just injuring the enemy instead of significantly weakening them...
A) if your sword is heated in its entierity you'll get hurt because of the shortness of the handle not shielding you from the scorching heat B) if your sword is lit on fire by say gasoil or any liquid with similar incendiary effect you will catch fire or have burns anywhere easily because it can be shaken away from the sword, plus you're gonna need a system to store that and spray it on the sword, which will be a system too fragile and dangerous for the welder to install and use on a melee weapon
I think, taking in consideration that Doom Guy literally has been to hell and back, that thing is mounted not only securely, it's pretty much a part of his body now
The Spycicle instantly turns its victim into an ICE STATUE and instantly dissolves the moment fire touches you, but makes you fireproof for a moment after that.
Also slicing and then piercing the foe would cause major damage, if the enemy is impaled by the sword then their insides would completely burn to crisp.
@@Celibrimbor the problem there is that you always sacrifice something. If it's a good blade, the metal will be a little too soft to keep it that hot for an entire combat encounter. The Nozzles Would Just Snap Off with Each Swing and Start Spraying Lit Fuel Everywhere, and Even if the Nozzles were Unbreakable they’d Still Keep the Blade from Actually Stabbing/Slicing, so You’d Have to Use Very Shallow Slashes Which Might Partially Cauterize and Keep Blood Loss Low, which is Obviously a Bit Counter-Intuitive
@@Arkolob Yeah but even with a 1000 degree knife you have to cut it slowly because of heat transfer(the hacksmith covered this in their “proto-lightsaber vs my hand” video). So just using a normal sword is just unfortunately simply better, as cool as it is
You do know even if somebody fell in lava they need to wait a couple of seconds for it to take effect on you and start melting you the same thing is here where the flaming knife needs a couple of seconds to change your heat from normal to burning.
Heat only does damage by staying there for a few moments. A quick slash with a fire blade wouldnt do much for you. Its why you can touch candle flame and oven burners quickly and be okay.

"what if we made a morningstar flail, but made it really heavy and harder to swing, and affixed it to a polearm instead of a short handle, so its highly dependent on accuracy, and has none of the slashing benefits of an axe"
Surprised Marcus talked about one of Warframe's hammer skins and not the wolf sledge which is a hammer that is used as not only a normal hammer but a throwing weapon too
I don't know for certain but I'd imagine a more beneficial form of the shishkebab would be instead of a sword it's in the form of a pike or spear that way you get a further range on your weapon while also having two different defensive deterrents one being the polearm's lenth and second being the gout of flame coming out of it
Another thing about a flaming sword is that a benefit of a normal sword's clean cut is the bleeding it'll cause. But, even if you use the flaming sword normally, and not ideally, the fire will at least partially cauterize the wound, stopping part of the bleeding and weakening the effectiveness even more.
Everybody talking about the flaming sword, but do they even realize the absurdness of the Spy from a videogame called Team Fortress 2 uses a *ICYCLE* to backstab people
The thing about the shishkabab is that the blade is coated in gasoline, meaning it probably would still be a useful sword, as the gasoline would still catch fire on your body after the blade hits you.
Idea to make flame sword work: have a nozel that will spew gas or some very flammable liquid in the front of the sword under the blade with a trigger to choose when to spew it and have a jet of flame behind the blade so after you spew the flammable and cut the jet of flame catches the flammable on fire and it spreads

Surprised Marcus talked about one of Warframe's hammer skins and not the wolf sledge which is a hammer that is used as not only a normal hammer but a throwing weapon too
"big spiky hammer go smash" was probably the though process and I don't think I can disagree on that
I don't know for certain but I'd imagine a more beneficial form of the shishkebab would be instead of a sword it's in the form of a pike or spear that way you get a further range on your weapon while also having two different defensive deterrents one being the polearm's lenth and second being the gout of flame coming out of it
Bro flaming sword would be really hot💀
that fallout 3 music is hitting my feelers
"well of to visit your mother" the spy from team fortress 2
A blade made of ice is the ultimate weapon of perfect crime
Another thing about a flaming sword is that a benefit of a normal sword's clean cut is the bleeding it'll cause. But, even if you use the flaming sword normally, and not ideally, the fire will at least partially cauterize the wound, stopping part of the bleeding and weakening the effectiveness even more.
Love the fallout 4 music in the background
Oh the fallout music brings so much nostalgia...
I thought doom was gonna be: yeah, it's a fucking shotgun
Ah yes, the "Caulk N' Bawl" variant of warhammer, of the "Fragor" series.
the spycicle doesnt melt when you go to hell, it does melt when a single flame particle touches you.
Everybody talking about the flaming sword, but do they even realize the absurdness of the Spy from a videogame called Team Fortress 2 uses a *ICYCLE* to backstab people
Bruh ur acting like ppl dont know what TF2 is, EVERYBODY KNOWS THE FLAMING SWORD IS JUST A MORE POPULAR SUBJECT IDIOT
The shishkabob would probably spray flaming gasoline on whoever it’s swung at…
I always just assumed the Shishkebab was just made to heat itself red hot.
The thing about the shishkabab is that the blade is coated in gasoline, meaning it probably would still be a useful sword, as the gasoline would still catch fire on your body after the blade hits you.
Someone hasn't heard the term "like a hot knife through butter"
The flames on a shishkebab look like they would be there to inflict extra pain, like a serrated blade or something
Love the fallout music in the background
I think the flaming would work as it would heat the metal ,and that'll hurt
Idea to make flame sword work: have a nozel that will spew gas or some very flammable liquid in the front of the sword under the blade with a trigger to choose when to spew it and have a jet of flame behind the blade so after you spew the flammable and cut the jet of flame catches the flammable on fire and it spreads
That last one is lt litch krills hammer. He was a leader for freedom of his people. Litch krill is augmented and is about 10feet tall with a ton of body augments. He has great rage and he takes it out of foes, and the points are to inflict more pain.
His mistake on the sword is ignoring the 1,000 degree hot knife challenge
I think the idea of the Shishkebab is more to slice and set fatigues on fire in the process, leaving your enemy not only gutted but burning too.
That hammer from Warframe has a fucking jet propulsion system on the back of it. It’s fucking cool
Idea: use napalm for the flame sword instead of propane. This would allow the fire to stick to the target and not go out.
