THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!
Im almost 12 years old and i want to make my own business. I want to make soap and bath bombs. You are my inspiration!! Thank you so much. I would be happy if someone have advices for my business. Even if im 12 i saw people make their dreams to be true!! And i want to make mine real. I would like if someone have apps where i can put the money from my business. And i wish good luck to everyone that starts a business as a teenager. 😁🤗🙂
You will probably need a PayPal all the money will go straight into your bank account make sure to tell your legal guardian (mum, dad etc)so they can help out with setting everything up also make sure your research alot on what your doing before starting it up!!make sure to plan plan plan!! Goodluck :)
With making bath bombs and soaps that is something you can totally start even at 12! You can really take time experimenting with recipes, logos, color schemes, etc so that way when you are ready to fully launch you will have perfected your craft
You can Do anything you set your mind to and you are young which is even better. When you are little older you will have all you want and everything you worked hard for, keep striving the sky's the limit. Proud of you.
Keep in mind, that if digital payment and transportation is an obstacle at your age, you could always go door to door. I’m starting out without a car in a small town and so door to door sales is what I have to work with. Theres no shame. As a matter of fact, there’s a major benefit to doing this method as a small business starting out, because the consumer gets a more interpersonal experience from a local like you in their community, providing for the community.
Be resourceful. Price match your ingredients/tools(Amazon delivers so no need to drive out for supplies) And remember, you’re 12! That’s your leverage over every corporation’s sales pitch. How could anyone resist to at least try your soap and bath bombs! You’re probably the more intellectually invested amongst your peers, being an aspiring entrepreneur at such a young age.👌 Bravo for that, bud!
Ask questions, and you’ll find out better ways to make your money work for you.
As a Navy vet, I’ll put it in military form for you.
Every dollar you have in your pockets should should be seen as a crew mate on your ship. If you have to beg a sailor to do their part all the time, your ship could slow down and be stuck at sea, BUT if you can get the crew to do their equal part, you’ll be known as “Captain Arixzsf, the VICTOR!” 🛳️🇺🇸
Oh and another thing. Kids at your age can be ruthless on social media, but just know that if your classmates are making fun of you for it, don be discouraged. Be clever and allow them to talk. They don’t realize that they’re working for you, when your business is being tossed around in gossip. That’s publicity, and you are now the big buzz in town! That’ll spark curiosity, which will make people try your product to see what it’s all about. When they find out how awesome your bath bombs and soaps are, that reputation will change for the best. Your haters are now YOUR foot soldiers for FREE haha. You’re gonna do great. I hope this boosts your confidence and drive to run a successful business. Be safe and God Bless you all! 🩸✝️❤️
Thank you so much for being so transparent about finances. It is really helpful for people like me who want to start small business!
Loved your video it helps a lot. My biggest challenge is how do you keep records of all your expenses & profits & supplies? Trying to find an easy way to keep records of all these things? Do you have a video that can help with what program you use? Or what organization skills you can share about this topic. Thank you
Thanks so much for sharing, I loved this video. But id love you to include your other business runnings costs. Your phone, electricity, insurance, accounting program, internet, car (travel to farmers markets) can you include these in order to show a fare profit margin. And annul costs as well. Thanks!
You're a smart little lady and you have gained a lot of business sense that you have been willing and upfront to share. Good for you and thank you! I too am a small business owner since 2010, running a home decor and gift shop as well as my husband running a small medical equipment business since 2003. Many times folks forget about all the expenses that go along with running a small business and far too many never put their taxes back and that can be a true shocker come tax time. Can't stress that enough. Best to you and your husband and all small business owners and as we all try to maneuver around such strange and interesting days! Blessings!
Wow @Jerika, thanks for you honesty and transparency. A lot of people don't like to disclose their earnings. You have such a pure and kind heart. At least this will help people decide if it pays to leave their current salary and start up a new business 💚. Thanks again. You are such a great help.
Thanks for sharing this video, it's very informative! But from an accounting/business pov, you should also include the labor cost of making soaps, time cost of spending at the farmers market, events etc... These are legitimate income that can be deducted against your revenue to reduce tax. Also, as a side hustle, most people would also be interested in how many hours you devote into the business. (This could also be a topic for future video??)
THANK YOU SO MUCH. WHAT A WONDERFUL VIDEO. YOU DID A GREAT JOB OF PRESENTING. I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING AND LEARNING MORE FROM YOU. I AM 68 AND JUST MADE MY FIRST BATCH OF SOAP.
wow....thank you for the encouragement...I am 36 and not brave enough to actually try it out...
I was worried that if I started a soap business it would never make enough. But this has given me hope. You make more than I make working a desk job for the government. I'm feeling more encouraged to try now.
this is exacty what I was thinking,as well...like literally....and actually doing something you like can be also much better for your mental health in the long run than working in a job you hate and where you are basically living just for the weekends and the holidays....
OMG you are a wealth of incredible information! Just started following you for about a week and have learned sooo much. Just starting a mother daughter bathbomb business as side income. Would love to comment on all your awesome videos but i mostly watch from Roku stick on tv and cant comment. Love all that you do. Much much thanks and appreciation. (From Winnipeg)
Hi Mel! Thanks for watching! Glad to get a comment when you can ❤️.
A little over 60k a year ... that’s great money
"great"? In north America? It's median. Maybe a little better than the US since she's Canadian and they have universal healthcare and such. In the US it wouldn't be very good because 1099 self-employed people need to take out even more than 25-30% to pay their own healthcare, retirement account, etc. A US 1099 worker should be setting aside over 40% so it would be like 36K take home for two people. You'll survive but you won't live the high life.
@@TheBilly you don’t have to take out that much lol but anyways most of that she’s clearly accounted for so like I said.... for a small soap business 60k a year AFTER expenses and taxes is great
1099 in the US sucks you have to make more then 100k to take home anything worth while. I ran a business for many years, I hated paying quarterly taxes. You have pay your own unemployment taxes. My good friend said you should always set aside 104% of the previous year just to reach what you owe. For the entire 15 years I paid quarterly 2,500 and at the end of the year when I field I still ended up paying like 8 to 10k in takes. Luckily my state doesn’t have state taxes and my wife has health insurance is her company.
@@TheBilly isn’t Canada still North America? The US is definitely different then Canada.
@@TheBilly damn.
Its amazing to see transparency within the small business community. Extremely well done!
yes, when people see what I make and they think it's such a great deal and how lucky I am, it's not luck. I busted my butt off and put in many hours, sweat, admin time, research, mistakes/fails, accomplishments, building relationships.... you deserve every penny you make. you worked for it.
You're the real MVP for sharing all these info! Thank you
I would love to have a friend like you by my side to inspire each other, it would be great !! Also thank you for your help to all of us on the other side of the screen, your transparency, kindness and simplicity are really to be admired. you deserve more of the success that you are living right now,
God bless you enormously!
Any time! Thanks so much for watching!
This was good information, Im trying to start my soap business and needed more information thank you!!!
That was an excellent breakdown. Having owned a business, the 25-30% range is very accurate for your withholding.
What an amazing video - I have been making and selling jewelry for almost three years and branching out to candles and soaps - I am on my last bar of gifted Beekman soap and want to make my own rather than buying it. This is the second Jerika video I have watched and will spend some time watching her others ❤
Your transparency is amazing. Incredibly helpful for people like myself thinking about starting up a small business. You’re incredible.
Thank you so much for posting this! I noticed you included new supplies that were purchased that month, but the products you sold in October also came with a COGs in the creation of those products which should also be deducted from the final sales profit to get an accurate number for your viewers
Thanks so much for your comment, I think all business owners need to learn this aspect and I'm just scratching the surface on this as my business grows. I'll definitely check out Profit First: it's on my to-read list!!!
I love your energy. I just started making candles and soaps and I’ve been binge watching your videos and others. Thank you for being so raw and real. Xo
Awe.... thank you so much for sharing your personal information about your business. You really put it into perspective for my daughter’s. They want to start a soap making business but didn’t know how to explain to them all the work that goes into a business. As teenagers they already have so much on their plate and are gearing up for college. You are so sweet and we love your channel. 💜💜💜💜
Thank you for your information. I am just starting and want a realistic expectation of my business.
Probably the best video i have never seen that literally spells out everything! THANK YOU!
I just came across this today and have been thinking of starting a small business due to loosing my job last spring as I have profound hearing. Thank you for your honesty and amount of running a small business. This gives me hope and be able to do something for myself and my family 😊
Thank you! I have been meaning to do this for 4 years and I am just gathering supplies and getting started reading etc.
First thing's first, I have to say YOU ROCK so hard! First video I've ever seen where someone (you) put EVERYTHING on the table for us, (the viewer). Absolutely amazing and helpful! Is it okay for me to say,______________ I love you? To much?......... Don't care, I flipping LOVE YOU for making this video!
Thank you for your feedback I learn what I wanted to know 👏🏻🙂😉
Thx I started 3 days ago and have been making 120 dollars a day
I was meaning to 3 weeks
Good for you! Where are you getting your sales?
@@mejohn101 read the edit and I’m getting my orders from my friend who has a pharmacy and some others people from a farms market
@@whatusernameisnottaken3885 Thanks fantastic! Keep up there good work. Kind of a fantasy of mine. Seems like there is a lot of competition but u have found a couple nice niches for yourself.
I thank you for sharing your business practices. It’s easy to find beautiful soap techniques but your the ones that show/teach me how to start a small business.
I am a new soap maker. I want to thank you for sharing. . It is a big help....
This is priceless information for someone like me who is just starting and knows not a whole lot... Thank you so much for the wisdom!

Great information! Thank you for sharing! I’m just starting to make bath bombs so this is great to know.
Thank you for your information!! It is nice to see someone “Keeping it real” and letting us know more personal in’s & out’s of small soap businesses! Appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing, this is a great video lesson of learning how to run your business of soap making . I am beginning stages of cold process soap and making body butters. I was suggested to sell on Etsy. There are a lot of soap makers on RUclips with their ways how they sell and make soap. I like your channel!
Glad it was helpful!
This was very helpful as I am very interested in this. Thank you for your transparency.
I am not trying to start a soap business (YET!) I am in the process of starting a different business, BUT the breakdown of finances on this video was SUPER HELPFUL! Thank you so much for your transparency!!!
Very helpful.. for any business even my current appliance repair. I want to quit fixing broke, junk and get into making things.. only problem is I get paid more for Time in one than other.
Going to keep checking out your channel.
Thanks again.
So happy i found you today I've been watching so many videos, I'm so inspired!

You have definitely opened my eyes to a new income. I really think this is one of my calling. Blessings to your business💕
I would love to learn how to do this. Just lost my Husband and really need to put my mind in different things and this is something that I would love to learn and would definitely need the extra income too 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
That is not bad. You do what you have to and it's an investment into your business. Definitely a yes on the reader. Plus you have 2 which you both can work together or separate. You will grow. It's something.

I love your transparency. Thank you for what you do for this community
Amazing information, and your advice about setting aside the 25% for tax purposes is right on point, and let me preface this by saying that I don't know beans (although I would find it very interesting to learn about) the tax system(s) in Canada, it might be a good idea to not only set these funds aside but to just go ahead and send them in to the taxing agency(s) as what we here in the US call Estimated Tax Payments (provided the Canadian taxing authorities accept "ES Payments") Here, we not only have Federal - which consists of not only Income, but also Social Security Tax, but most (not all, however) states also have an Income Tax, and in some states, there are also "Locality" taxes as well. Given all of that, we all know that things come up, and it would be all too easy to reallocate funds. If those funds are not "on hand", reallocation and the possible shortfall in the amount paid in, as well as the danger of owing, or owing a less manageable amount is much easily avoidable. I don't mean to lecture, please don't take it as such, but I've seen time & time again where - especially small business owners have gotten into some pretty - almost insurmountable tax debt because of the huge temptation, especially during the leaner times, to reallocate funds in this manner, and many times the situation they've gotten themselves into has "snowballed" to a point where it had become (not only to them, but me as well) heartbreaking. Here under certain circumstances, making ES Payments is required, as a matter of fact. Again, this "book" is not meant as a lecture - you're a "smart cookie", and that's obvious, it's just a bit of (unsolicited, I know) but maybe helpful advice. Believe me when I tell you - I promise, it's coming from a good place. God bless both you and your business! 💗
I just adore you and appreciate all your insight as I am opening my own business this year. Wish me luck
I think this is wonderful for a guy like me who does a lot of Diy.If I could even nail down 4 simple type soap types, moisturizing, fragrance, foamy vs less foamy, exfoliating etc.Shapes n designs i think is kinda of as appeal too as it has to be comfy to use.Thank you for your honesty.I live in the Hamptons Ny where all the celebs n rich city folks come to play.Between soaps n candles maybe my poor worn down body can actually take a break from heat stroke a doing 40 yrs of grunt work everyday.I,do have an artistic side I'd like to tap into.I,give guitar lessons, but doesn't quite cover the bills tho I do enjoy it and I'm looking for a new venture, this gives me some hope, thank you for your honesty,I needed to see if this was a feasible reality or another flop idea 🙏 its so tough out here but I'm trying every avenue besides a 9-5 killing my body even further .Thank you dear, this gives me hope
Great stuff! Thank you so much for sharing and putting this together and being so transparent. I imagine your RUclips videos have a big impact on the monthly income as well. Keep up the great work!
So glad that I've found you. I'm just starting out. Doing Melt and Pour at the moment with a Cold Press soap kit on the way to get comfortable with that. I really appreciate all the information you're giving along with the honesty of the business.
Thank you for making this video!! You inspired me!!
Hello, I’m a new subscriber and I’m glad I found you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of a small business!💝
Just found your channel and so happy that I did.. I would love to start a small business.. I have many allergies and I am sure many more people do to. Making soap that would help conquer the allergy problem would be beneficial. Thank you for sharing your ideas' and sharing your starting a soap business
Thank you hun!! For being so informative. This is great news for me. I’m glad I found you. I am a premed student and knowing what works and what could potentially be a waist of time helps me in the long run. I have yet not started my soap online business currently working on all my product. I have been researching like crazy. ESPECIALLY Researching for best priced wholesale ingredients.. best for the buck in bulks. Xoxoxo
Starting with a low cost of goods is awesome! And getting your products to be amazing is also good! You’re off to a good start!
@@JerikaZimmerman do you get your soap making supplies from Amazon
Thank you for being so honest. The only thing you didn't mention is Business Lic. or insurance that is more expenses. But a great honest video.
Thank you for making this business realistic. Many people don't realize the expenses that lie in the background. I didn't see where you mentioned 'insurance', so I can only speculate that you don't have it. Regardless, making money requires spending money, and it's good to see someone approach it in a realistic manner.
Thanks for sharing and being so transparent. This is very helpful!
You're so welcome!
Just when I'm searching ideas about a small business..I just started my way and a little concern of those "what if's" ...
Very informative video..
New Sub! Can you do a video on how you pay yourself each month.
I've always wondered that. Self employed, does a person add in their desired hourly rate into " expenses" category.? Would love a video explaining that.
@@adamgamble426 I know the answer to that one...you’d report it as “owner’s draw”, and yes it is an expense. Paying yourself is always an expense. :o)

I can't tell you how refreshing it is for someone to be, so open as you have been. I've often wondered how viable it would be, to run a small business from home. What I would really like to know, would be. How long did it take you, to get what you're earning now. Because when you first start, I would imagine your first year being quite slow, just feeling your feet with everything, so what I'm trying to say is, is it year two when your earnings go up or even takes to year three before you start earning like what you've described. Very good Vlog Jerika. 🥰🐾🇬🇧🌲⛄
Not bad. Thank you. You have a wonderful smile.
😊 thank you
This is my queue to get started: my birthday is in October.🙏🏽🙌🏽🥰
I appreciate your transparency on your journey. I have a very young handmade bath/shower products business and this video was extremely helpful; I agree with the social media numbers "game" that the best way to grow organically is consistent, valuable content.
I wouldn't consider buying new equipment as an expense, more as the purchase of an asset, but I understand what you are trying to convey.
Thanks so much for the insight Jerika. So glad you shared your financial information with us all. It truly helps put my expectations into perspective and also the need to keep good records. Have a great day. Ann
Im just started this soap making business and i found your vlog so helpful for me.
You got this!
Thank you so much. Watching your videos are really helping me as I prepare to start my own small business!

Thank you for keeping it real! I've been thinking of making my own soap due to skin allergies & sensitivities and people have said they would buy from me if I started making it (i have friends with the same issues). I'm just not sure how to make that work 🤔 so I've been doing research!
