Great video! I went to Warsaw three weeks ago. Unfortunately I only had one day to spend there, but I enjoyed it very much. The tram station at Centrum Station is a bit confusing for first visitors, but I got used to it. Definetely a place to come back soon!
I'm not from Poland but my country being a Catholic Christian country in Asia, the saints and holy figures are covered in purple as reverence in the observing of Lent season. The color purple in this context has to do with penitence, remembrance, royalty, and spiritual wealth. On Good Friday, the Cross is unveiled while the statues are before Easter Sunday, because God has risen from the dead after sacrificing himself to save mankind.

If you live near a good Polish shop or supermarket (like I do in the UK) you can actually buy the soup base in tetra packs - it's fermented rye and a bit time consuming to make from scratch - and the byaly kielbasa (white kielbasa) to make zurek soup, together with boiled eggs and some kind of pork/bacon.

Purple. Worn during Lent or the Advent, purple represents penance, preparation, and sacrifice. It is also worn at funerals because of its connection to mourning. Purple vestments are donned to remind the funeral-goers to pray for the penance and absolution of the departed.
I wonder if you know why sorrel soup always has a hard-boiled egg. :-) Sorrel contains oxalates, which in excess can combine with calcium, forming kidney stones and crystals that can damage the kidneys and lead to kidney failure. The egg in the soup neutralizes their excess, making the soup safe to eat. :-)

Until Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the term Eastern Europe was only a pejorative term for nations living between Russia and Western Europe. This term equated, for example, the Czech Republic with Azerbaijan, although these countries have as much in common with each other as Mexico with Tunisia. After the invasion of Ukraine for the Russians the term Eastern Europe means - you still belong to us and we are coming for you, because all of Eastern Europe is the Russian world. The barbacan was built there just to fit the conception. before the war it was not there.
Just for the record: the bricks to rebuild Warsaw after the war came mostly from Wroclaw (which was also destroyed). Several trains a day were sent from Wroclaw to Warsaw (for several years) with just bricks from the bombed-down houses. So a big part of Wroclaw was "moved" to Warsaw
@@michaelmckelvey5122 I do not know, but it was more urgent to rebuild the capital. Wroclaw was German for 2 centuries since 1741 . It was in Polish hands 400 years and nearly 500 years in Czech hands (depending how you count, because in many years Chechs were only a part of Austro-Hungary and not an independent country) . But there is absolutely NO ARCHEOLOGICAL evidence that it was founded by Czechs, only HEAR SAY several hundreds years later. The oldest found evidence is Polish. Wroclaw was repopulated by people who were thrown out of their houses in Eastern Poland on Stalins order. So nearly whole Lvov (Polish before the war) ended up in Wroclaw.
Warsaw should be the capital of Lithuania, not Poland. Poles once took their capital from Lithuanians, so let Lithuanians take the capital from Poland now. I would move the capital of Poland to Wrocław.
