I travelled to Leh with my friends during 1st week of Nov 2015 it was a 5 days trip and we didnt want to waste any time. We reached Leh by flight on around 8 o'clock in the morning and the temperature was already less than 0. Our friend who was then the resident of Leh warned us about the climate and about all the gears we are supposed to carry. We ignored all his warning saying - Nanga pakkathatha. We didnt even take any rest after reaching Leh in the same afternoon we ventured out for few kms and went an air force base. The IAF officers are also warned us about the climate and told us that whoever is newly joining in Ladakh region will take atleast one week of rest to get acclimatised. We didnt listen to them as well. But in the very same day night we all were suffering very badly. We had headache, vomiting sensation, burning sensation and i could not forget that night becoz i was so tired i wanted to sleep badly but i couldnt sleep due to snuggling to breath. Couple of us even got blood from our nose. Then our friend helped us with the oxygen cylinder and called a doctor to his bungalow who checked blood oxygen level and gave us some tablets. The location was looking like a heaven but the adverse whether made us feel like we were on hell. We couldnt even use toilet at night becoz the water in the tap was frozen by night. When we reached Kardung la pass the temp meter in the army check post was reading -14. Can't forgot those 5 days trip in my life. Yes things mentioned in this video is not hype. Please follow proper recommendations if you are planning for Ladakh trip.
1:47 Leh Ladakh - Land of high passes The pass means between two mountain 🗻 ladakh has 20+ passes 4:26 Hypoxic Environment less oxygen 7:45 HACE and HAPE Altitudes disease and Great information about high trekking travel
We travelled to Leh Ladakh last year via flight and we experienced AMS a lot..severe headache and nausea for 2 days...but we took proper rest and acclimatized ourselves...after that we explored Ladakh and it is truly a Paradise 😍 Thank you for this awareness video..
Great information im also travel chennai to Leh Ladakh this year by bike , You tell 100% correct i follow this tips to complete Ladakh bike trip with Zero problems bro ...
I did Umlinga pass(19024 feet) world no.1 highest pass on 3rd October 2022.....it was marvelous experience. Everyone should visit ladakh at least once in their lifetime.
5:46 hyperventilation causes rapid CO2 washout (pCO2 has acidic nature) excess washout of co2 causes respiratory alkalosis(not due to excess CO2 in blood,if pCO2 is excess then it is respiratory acidosis), for compensatory mechanism metabolic acidosis occurs rapidly
@lmes respiratory alkalosis is not due to increased co2 in blood, it is exactly the opposite… during hyperventilation, you take in more 02 and expel more co2 , there by decreasing co2 in blood and it shifts the ph more than 7.45 and causes respiratory (due to co2) alkalosis (pH>7.45) and to compensate that the body excretes hco3 (bicarbonate- alkali material) to make the ph into the normal range (7.35-7.45)

Thank you for this . Very insightful. I think the same kind of things happen when someone travels on AC Bus or AC train where we have less air circulation, result in less oxygen
Every information are perfect 👌, Congratulations team for the proper research and giving a actual content to people... Hats off... Just a thing normal people can go to higher altitudes just make sure follow the things they mentioned also don't go above 8000 ft a day or at a stretch, if you really want to do it there are medicine to be taken before the travel to avoid the disease. People with lung disease, Anaemic more precisely sickle cell anemia and haemoglobinopathies should avoid high altitude travel... And the visual effects at 6:05 about the bicarbonate ions by kidney they highlighted the testis and vas defferens instead of urinary tract
I went there with my wife in May 2019. Used MakeMyTrip package. They allowed us to get acclimated on day one. I went outside to take some pics and felt a burning sensation all over my body on day one and so returned to my room. They also gave us a bottle of Oxygen spray to be used during emergency.
Nice animation, just a small mistake @ 5:35 the hyperventilation causes more CO2 to be expired and the low CO2 in the blood leads to Respiratory alkalosis and not the other way.
Respiratory alkalosis means decrease in co2 in blood. It's due to that increased rate of breathing. So body needs to bring back the Ph of the body. Now body excrete the bicarbonate ion through urine because bicarbonate ion is alkaline. So excretion Od alkaline component decrease the Ph so now Ph back to normal. In high altitude, both CO2 and O2 are low. Not only O2. Body also forms a component 2,3-BPG, which increases the supply of O2 from RBC to tissues.
Amazing voice. Slow and steady deliverable. I see you are spending voice from you inner heart. That’s why we could able to watch your videos till end without skipping. Hope you acknowledge with one like and reply 😎
We can't even stay for an hour in such an inhumane climate. Our army jawans serving the country in this place to defend our borders. We must be thankful for their sacrifice 🙏
Also put a video on why do we get vomit sensation when we travel early in the morning (especially in empty stomach), when we travel fast, when we travel uphill or downhill.. Enjoyed this video very much..
Bro it's not ladak....it's Ladakh....been there right out of Coimbatore....8000kms ride to n fro...we went via Manali n came back via Srinagar....we acclimatized during our ride...those who took flight to kullu n started from there(Manali) will definitely have this AMS....we took 28 days for whole trip 3-4 days from manali to leh...after reaching khardung la my bike fell off in snow and rear brake lever broke off....first thing i did was i lighted a cig....what you told is right....go to twisty roads to high altitude....then you will know how you need to ride... I'm born in 92 and we as a group of 90k kids we are still mature...we got our dream bikes on our own...but nowadays kids are forcing parents ( who are going to be the parents of future) to get things for them like bikes or cars....ungala epdi valathinagalo apidi valaathi paarunga ungala maathiriye nalla oru manushyana Avan or aval varuval....jai hind...

Hello, Im a 38 yo adult from Coimbatore... Ooty is very safe & is the coolest place in South India. Ooty's altitude is 2300 meters from Sea Level which is very safe. During Winters, Ooty can hit single digit temperatures during night times (0 to 9 degree C)... Summer is the best time to visit for children as they can enjoy more, watch out for the crowd too.
