Found mammoth ivory, bison tooth ICE AGE fossil hunting

- Today we go fossil hunting for ice age fossils in a gravel pit here in Germany. All the bones and teeth are between 126.000 and 11.700 years old (young pleistocene/ ice age).

My name is Basti (nickname of Sebastian) and I´m a fossil hunter from Germany.
Because I´m a member of a fossil club in my town I can go fossil hunting in all different quarries and fossil locations in Germany (and Europe) and I learn a lot from the other members.
I want to share my fossil adventures with you so come with me to explore the world of paleontology and to unearth these fossils of the prehistoric wildlife.

Another fantastic video as always, the mammoth tusk fragments are wonderful, for the mystery bone it does look very skull like to me so possibly from the skull or it could be a piece of the sacrum to some animal, love the content 👍👍👍

@@fossilwildlife5198 yes sorry I’m from Canada Ontario and You probably there are different animals in Germany than Canada but any good tips where to find fossils because all I found were bison and horse should I look in your water or on land?
That depends. Firstly it's rare finding fossils. In comparison of all creatures which lived we can just find a few remains of the ancient wildlife of our earth. So you must have luck to find the right layers which include fossils. And these fossil layers can be on land and in water as well. For sure to find fossils the right layers should be reachable. So the ice age layer is at a depth of 20 metres in the lake of this gravel pit. But with the machines (suction dredge) the fossils can be brought to the surface.

What do you mean? In this location you can't find dinosaurs, "only" ice age mammals like mammoth, rhinoceros, bison, horse, deer,...

Are the tusks broken during the mining process or are they broken in situ? Just curious cause that would stink if the miners break it.
Mammoth tusk is fragile in general. The fossils are located on the lake floor and are transported to the surface with a suction dredge. The opening has a caliber of just ~30 centimeter. So all bigger bones break. But sometimes you can bring with an excavator entire mammoth bones to the surface ⛏️😉
