I really wish this was around when my oldest son was a kid. I always told him that "no matter what anyone said, if it feels right in your heart, then it's the right thing for you. It applies to everyday life but especially the person you fall in love with". I knew he was gay very very early on, but I made sure to not push him in either direction. I never hid anything from him. I am extremely proud of him and love him with my whole heart.

LGBTQ representation within mainstream media is definitely on the rise. Both with adult and kids media. It's really enjoyable to see , even though there's some pushback when it comes to people not wanting their kids being exposed to topics like that early on. But, I know personally I definitely needed topics like that being approached when I was a kid. The only exposure I had at an early age was the show Will and Grace, which I couldn't really identify with.
Yea, earlier on in media, gays were always depicted as mentally disturbed, villains, or just very obvious. Now there is a more realistic depiction in the media as to the rainbow of sexual and gender identity. The representations in the media is becoming much more real and healthy.
My kids were watching a show called The Loud House and the main character's best friend has two dads. I'm only 26 and that's the first time I've seen LGBT people on a kid show. My kids are definitely going to grow up in a far more accepting world than I grew up in.
DK and Triple A - Thanks for the comment! We will have to check out The Loud House.....first we have heard of it. We hope the world continues to grow more accepting. SOME THINGS are changing for the better in parts of the world. Unfortunately there are still countries where being LGBT can become a death sentence. Hopefully the countries moving forward on the issue will be able to drag the rest of the world along to a brighter future for those in the LGBT community.
