as a former bus driver about to start with Lothian buses after nearly 2 years i throughly enjoyed this please add more i also just noticed the tachograph
nice vid I actually learned a lot just watching keep it up! I'm in more or less same place in my own life and planning to go driving soon. can I ask a couple questions pls? at the station bay, after you made your initial reverse move and gone to N something is challenging you and you use a fob to answer it, what is that all about? also I don't see you playing with a tacho, are the tachos fully automated these days? thanks
Thanks. The fob is for “Drive Green”. It’s a system that monitors your driving, speed, cornering, braking etc… There is a small traffic like set of lights that alerts you to “events” that are outside the parameters set. Drivers have a score that some follow or try to improve. I just drive the way I do and it seems happy enough 90% of the time 😁. Some of our buses have tachos but they are not used on our routes. I think this is we comply with domestic rules on a defined route/duty with breaks built into the duty boards. Some with a better understanding of this may give a fuller answer. Cheers 👍
Hello from a fellow bus driver. Been in the job 15 years. Great video and very smooth driving buddy 👍 just as a side note, how annoying is that indicator beeping? I drove this exact type of bus with Stagecoach London and the indicators didn’t make a noise at all, not even a tick. That beeping would drive me potty 😂take care mate!
Hi I’m due to start with stagecoach soon leaving quite a high paying position to be a bus driver as I love driving and the idea of sort of being my own boss out on the road, just wandered what it’s really like shift wise and how hard is it to transition from car to bus? Many thanks and fantastic vid and pov.
Hi, I’d never driven a bus before November’23. Like you I love driving and this is my final and part time career before final retirement. For me I found the transition fairly easy. Width and length awareness as well as good vision and forward planning are the key things. Nice to smile and be polite even when some passengers are not 😉. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
@@TravelswithBillybob thanks for taking the time to reply, I’m looking at this job as a less physically demanding role than what I do and something to see me to retirement. Many thanks for the insight 👍🏻
Good point being struck by a vehicle at 20 MPH will do less damage than being struck at 30 MPH ... However back in my day we used to look to see if it was safe to cross the road ..Wait until it was clear and then cross with care... Looking both ways at all times until we were back on the pavement... In 2024 people walk across the road with a phone stuck in their hand staring at the screen and if you hit them with your vehicle you are somehow at fault (Not sure how that works however)
20MPH roads really make my pi55 boil. Did you see the sign "Tell you off" for driving 1mph over the 20MPH limit... at 47:44 in this video ... What a total joke 20 MPH roads are. Sadly we will see more and more of these in the UK.
You can tell the driver is a professional by the fact he makes it look so easy to drive.
I try, thanks 😊
I love England and all its towns.
Great point of view. Keep up the great work
Thanks, I’ll try! 😊
I enjoyed watching this video, I've subscribed, Thank you 😊😊

Glad you enjoyed it. Tacho isn’t used day-to-day, private hires as far as I know.
Superb vid just subscribed
Thanks, glad you liked it 😊
Great video and lovely views of the countryside. I occasionally drive a Enviro400 but mostly drive Eclipse Geminis which I prefer out of the 2
Thanks, I’ve not had the pleasure of driving the Geminis and doubt I will as we have none in the fleet that I’m aware of.

These zf e400mmcs are silky smooth and fast
Agree, they are my favourite to drive.

The till seems like along process for each fare 😩. Good video.
@@brianmoran.yes, it can be. Still on 3G with 4G due shortly. I think they’re looking into restructuring the fares to make it simpler too.
As i am watching this as a learner bus driver , i wish i could see u checking the blindspot at tailswing 😢
It’s true that I don’t check every turn but only when I think there is a risk. Not right but truth. Others may be similar or I may be bad 🤔
Once we pass our practical test - we all know werent gonna checking that blindspot everytime😅

Agree, not a fan of the way they’ve been “blanket” imposed but the pedestrian damage is significantly less if hit a 20mph verses 30mph.
stpop feeding the wheel
No. That’s the way I drive 90% of the time.

feeding the wheel impossible on very tight city roads
The fare taking is long winded there .
Completely agree!
That is a slow way to have to pay there must be a faster system.
