This was my 1st anime I fell in love with Lina inverse was such a fresh breathe of air a female hero in shonen
Slayers will always be the fun story to warm my heart if I ever needed to feel good. Lina and Gourry's relationship is one of the sweetest things ever and I'm so glad to always be a Slayers fan. If another anime does happen, it will be like slipping back into my most comfy boots.
Record of Lodoss War is what you imagine your DND party will be, but your DND party inevitably becomes Slayers...

I totally get the vibe we're getting new anime slayers in the near future. Probably a reboot! Will it be a redo of the older seasons or following the story closer to the LNs though? I'm thinking a reboot would follow the novels. I doubt the creators want to bring back Filia. Lol

It's good know people are stilling waiting for Slayers. Something about it hold a great love in my heart. Today modern anime fans couldn't understand why Slayers is amazing, the art style, the music, the story was funny and cool and it didn't take itself too seriously. Especially for pre 2000s, it was ahead of its time and at the right time for it. Criminally underrated, it like lightning in a bottle, it almost didn't happen.
As a kid I had a notebook of spells written out based on the Slayer's magic system.
Its easy to say that Slayers was one of the founding Anime of my youth.
It could be huge again. Look at how well Konosuba has done and it's a spiritual successor to Slayers.
Konosuba doesn't deserve to be in the same room as Slayers.

Very good video with a lot of research not easily found for the average Slayers fan. Just 2 small points, hope you don't mind~ the main Slayers novel series was released directly as novels, never being serialized before as short stories. That only was true for the Slayers Special/Smash series. And you didn't mention the Meet Again animation announcement in 2007, which was the first hint that a new series was in the works. Apart from that, it's a great video :)

Slayer’s was one of the first anime i ever saw back in the 90s. A cousin had a VHS that i borrowed with the first 4 episodes of season 1 dubbed. I think one of the OVAs as well actually…. but it began my hunt for all things Slayer’s related…
Actually thing is, im so glad that thwre are more slayers fans out there. Slayers was one of those special shows i grew up watching and it has stayed with me eversince. Its till this day i hold out hope for more slayers material. Hopefully one day they'll maie some kind of revival of somekind
Slayers is one of my top anime series. I discovered it four years ago and I just adore the series. It’s a lighthearted series that’s as wholesome as a stuffed animal.

As a TTRPG player, Slayers has always had a special place in my heart as what a tabletop group usually ends up being like (okay, Lodoss too, but Slayers is so much more fun).
I remember being so disappointed in the various RPGs published in the early 2000s, because the companies that published them did not have the license for the full setting, just the TV series (not even the OVAs), so they got a lot of stuff wrong. With new novels coming out, and 9-15 getting translated finally (note to self: get them...), maybe another stab at a tabletop setting could be done. This time with a proper license deal...

Thank you for this well researched video! There has been some recent activity beyond the 3rd published story arc as of late...such as 2020 marking a 30yr anniversary event in Japan (but also affected by current events this year) as well a a new line of Volks figure and the like.

Ironic enough, I've stumbled upon this video because I am a fan of Slayers. But, and hear me out on this, what actually made my heart skip a beat is seeing @09:46, which is an anime that I've been searching for since..... I don't know........ 3rd or 4th grade?! I've been looking for this anime after finishing the Tagalog dub when I was young, and for the life of me, I could not remember the title nor the year it was made. I kept on searching, trying to shake my memories, but couldn't find it. And then, there it is, smackdab in the middle of watching your video! I will now watch Galaxy Warring State Chronicle Rai thanks to you!!!

This series is amazing. I like most people got into Slayers mainly due to the anime. I have all 5 seasons (well 4 if you consider combining Revolution and Evolution-R together as a whole). I also have all 8 volumes of the Slayers Super Explosive Demon Story manga (though I have a Japanese print of the 8th/final volume of the manga since it never got released here in America), all 4 volumes of the Slayers Special manga, the one-shot Slayers manga called Medieval Mayhem (though in Japan it's just called Slayers), the Slayers Premium manga, and the Slayers light novels collector's editions volumes 1-3 containing novels 1-9 from J-Novel Club. I'm looking forward to getting the last two collector's editions containing novels 10-15. I know there's now a 16th and 17th novel, but until there's more published to start off a new story arc, I'll just stick with having novels 1-15.

The characters are adorable, even evil ones like Rezo. And the anime series is epic (yes, all of it, I watched everything there is to watch). Genus voice performances by the best voice actors in the industry, cute character designs, great music. I with that the series would not have stopped. It is a format that can run forever.

The Slayers was one of my first steps outside of main stream Shonen anime in college a couple years back. I forgot how much I enjoyed it.
Slayers is the most underrated anime ever, best magic incantations, great characters, good storyline, exceptional setting (world). Few things would make me happier than a decent remake or sequel to his anime. A crossover with Sorcerous Stabber Orphen would be awesome.

Very well put essay! It was great to hear so much I didn't knew about one of my favorite series growing up. Slayers was up there with a lot of classic anime over here, in Latin America. The dub was great, and it left a big impact over here.

DBZ got me into anime as a kid. Enough to get my mom to take me up to Suncoast in the Mall to buy Slayers. Ya know, because the only way to watch anime was to buy it. That is, unless you were satisfied with just DBZ and Sailor Moon. It was recommended. Almost 100% certain it was the first time I ever went, first anime I ever bought, because I specifically remember asking the guy at the counter about anime, and what kind I was looking for. Some random Dude changed my life. I never would have stayed an anime fan if it wasn't for this one.

I never got to watch much of the newer Slayers series when it was being released before the series dropped out of my personal bubble. Hearing that Xelloss' dub voice was unable to return brings a warmth to my heart. ❤️ I fangirled for Xel hard but his dub voice was torture. I'm re-watching Next (and soon Try) right now and it's so hard to sit through the dub sometimes. Man the 90s was the wild west for dub anime. 😂
Xellos voice is done wonderfully by David Moo in the dub. Who is known for doing a voice in a poorly received dub called 4kids One Piece.

*I LIKE the dub actress,* but I wish this documentary would use original sound, meaning the original voice actress. She is one of the biggest anime phenomenons of all time, a true veteran and a great singer.

Real talk the lady they picked for the english dub yelled dragon slave like "gooooooo team!". Like i could have rocked with it if she did it like she heard the original japanese lady belt it out. I still get chills!
Lina Inverse is the best female protagonist in anime of all time, no competition. You could swap her out for a dude and she wouldn't change character which is a good sign that she wasn't female just to be female aside from the flat chest running joke.
