I think Ryu is actually ki-type, having refined his hadokens (He uses both electric and burning Hadokens) while Ken prefers to use purely physical techniques, using ki mainly to enhance his strength. After all, two of Ryu's super/ultra moves are Hadokens, where two of Ken's super/ultra moves are Shoryukens.

Oizahk Hyechs Ryu can do the hadouken better than Ken, Ken does the Shroyuken uppercut better than Ryu because his has fire to do extra damage, but Akuma is much faster than both of them and 10 times stronger because he has control over the Satsui no Hadou. Until transforms into Shin Akuma or Oni, then he's unstoppable

As the uploader said, "Ryu" means "Dragon" and Ken means "Fist" and because their skills are martial arts-based, the skills tend to end in "Ken" because the Hadoken (Surge Fist/Energy Fist/Aura Fist) and Shoruyken (Literally "Rising Dragon Fist") are hand-related techniques. Their names relate to their signatures - Ryu referring to the "ferocity of a dragon" it takes to loose an "energy wave" with your bare hands, and Ken referring to the pure strength of fist to be able to use the Shoryuken.
Do you know that Ken's theme was inspired in a Cheap Trick's song? Listen Mighty Wings from them and discover and it song was played in the first movie of Top Gun. Ken is the best!!!
