Great to hear John chatting in his native Glasgow accent. Intelligent, sensitive and funny and immensely modest and humble. Like Nick Drake he deserved a much bigger following and financial success. The most subtle player of an electric guitar ever.

I can't figure out if he's glaswegian or not. He wasn't born in Glasgow but his upbringing was from an early age. Not sure if that makes you glaswegian or not but I'd love to claim him as our own.

    WOW!!!!!
That solo is one of the sweetest I've ever heard... Jim Lampi -Chapman stick and John on Les Paul !

I never critique nor criticize. John, as many I have "known", walked his own road.

    Always liked his Music.
    I have read his biography
and I think he was a quite
    Strange Person.
There is always a thin line
    between love and hate.
One thing is for sure, He
    could make wonderful
    Music.Genius.
    RIP
    Greetings from Germany

As John started to slur his words during the 70',I loved the music but sometimes not the performance. But his performance is so organic and natural. It flows from him & the band..
Jim Lampi is a revelation on stick. His propulsive bass line remind me of both Alan Thomson and Danny Thompson. And his solo is so expressive. It really is an awesome performance.RIP John.

Such a shame no interviews in his prime around 1978-85

I guess if he hadn't done half the things he did he wouldn't have been John, for better or worse. He would probably have said take me or leave me; what you see is what you get.

This was the beginning of the descent in to the boring old pisshead you'd have annoying everyone at the local bar with their catawailing. Great work up to this point though.

John will be discussed in a hundred years from now as one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever to exist. Let's see how long your comment stands the test of time. Regards, Lyn McMullan. Director of One World, One John

@@ELEMAY100 John Martyn was one of if not the best singer songwriters/performers of his or anyone's generation, I agree, but the latter part of his career was a bit of a car crash.

@@johndamienreilly His entire life was a total car crash, but he still had things to say musically till the end. Whether you liked them or not is something else. As far as his offstage antics go, that's a whole 'nother story. The same person who likes the singer/songwriter with a folk flair (Nick Drake), might not like the space jazz musings of Sun Ra...but some of us do. John towards the end was somewhere in the middle. His brain was scrambled but never enough not to still be able to be brilliant and witty and silly and a musical master...and I'm not even sure about it being scrambled (though you know the alcohol addiction didn't make for clear thinking), but there was so much going on up there at such a rapid pace that it was like the thoughts were tripping over themselves to get out. Gone too soon...miss him much. ❤☮🌎

For me, a pale impression of the unique talent and force he was in the early 70's. Here he's a bit like Wet Wet Wet without a proper bass player.
