I have met shane before in Kona. He is my favorite surfer by far. I believe he has on old style of catching waves....with out a tow.....he just goes for it. I think he is the best big wave surfer in the world right now, and has been for a while. He is more technical than laird and he never pusses out. Go Shane!!! And thanks for taking big wave surfing to a new level!
Great surfing. Committed. The next day the mustard flew off the hotdog and he almost died at Mavs, He admitted it was the closest call of his life and came up with a specialized wetsuit as a result. Of course Mavs has a barrel any wave that jacks on the takeoff like that has barrels. The reason why you don't see locals surf like that is that they don't want to die. Respect for that wave, Shane is a stud and has dedicated his life to surfing big waves. Kudos!

i love how some locals will kill to get a barrell out at mavs then shane dorian makes it out of 2 barrells and pulls into a close out barell. thats what makes him the best big wave surfer
jet skis are actually not allowed at Mavericks because they want it to remain a paddle wave so most people do have to wait out the sets and paddle back when they get caught inside
I'm an Alaskan whitewater boater...Why are they not wearing kayakers drysuits? It must be a dumb question, just curious...but I get my ass kicked in 35 degree f water every summer and a good dry suit makes it fun. BTW I surfed in wetsuits in Cali in my youth.
Ok im no big wave rider so this is a nooob question..what s the Rip like when you get caught in the impact zone..My arms are rubber after a good day where im at.I was fighting it all day..can you make it withought jet skis.Im sure its not a good idea but we all fall .what do you do at a place that freakkin big ? great vid man thanks..what dick didnt like this vid ? lol

dorian is hardcore, great surfer, through and through, he can surf great from 2ft to 50ft. a truly complete surfer.
