i tried low whistle and high whistle and flute at the same time - it's the same family, it's the same play with the physics of air in a tube, and yes flutes is way harder (bloooooow!) but it helped me understand problems i had on the whistle about octave jumps. similarly i first learned violin then cello and also guitar (and piano) these indeed did not bleed over each other, too different. but as my health is better i'l going to go back to whistles (flute later) and also to the violin (fiddle i mean!) - i have played a bit violin lately and yess it's the same family as cello (something i felt on cello when i first tried it coming from violin). all the principle of the one are useful on the other. what I'm looking forward to is: whistles plus fiddle plus.... mandolin! which is half guitar (right hand) and half violin (left hand is the same) i wonder what it will be like. like most fiddlers i want to play the mandolin to see chord form on the neck and use those forms on the fiddle (double stops). but mando whistles and fiddle all to play irish music - this should be interesting! too bad there are no session around me, it would be fun to switch instrument during a session (many do it if only to change position on the hard wooden benches of a pub!à I'll keep you posted, but first: many thanks for this video, very very interesting, i love knowing I'm not the only one with poly-instruments concerns! a round on me!!!!
Thanks for chiming 8n. I was thinking of you in making it. You have a great history of playing various instruments, and I think it is so good you are continuing to grow as a musician. Yes, please keep us all posted. I also would so happy to have a session anywhere near.
@@LowDWhistle it seems sessions on zoom dont work well as the sound "engin" is not adapted to musical instruments (zoom cannot hear the mandolin!p but there is research and already some plug-ins released mad efor specific instruments by people working in music education etc (for distance workshop for say violinists etc) so we may find ourselves in the same session in the future, when zoom (and others) sound gets better, I'm truly looking forward to it
I see some people post a lot, I wish there was a name attached instead of a bunch of random letters and numbers not only to your posts but others as well… my name is Michele
I think we all get brain confusion now and then. Ha, ha. Yes, I think separating your practice may help for at least a little while. This is particularly true since the recorder is so similar - and so very different than the whistle.
I have to agree, I’d like the recorder, but I Love the whistle !! I also like the brain challenge of the fingerings
Indeed. Keeping the brain working is a healthy thing.

That would be a good add. Yes, instrument sound quality on Zoom is not great. Would be wonderful if they can improve that feature.

It is funny. I think everyone’s RUclips name is what is displayed. Hi, Michele - I’m Scott (but you knew that) 😀.
Lots of great information!! I am not excellent , and I do get brain confusion, but it is fun ! I love your idea of compartmentalizing each instrument

Especially the alto recorder, it is like learning Chinese for me . The fingering is WAY different
