- Celine Dion spoke publically for the first time about her late husband Rene Angelil, fighting back tears as she remembered him during a memorial at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. "I feel his love in this room. I feel his strength and his warmth being reflected in all of you," she said. She opened up about her 21-year marriage to the love of her life. Angelil died last month after a battle with throat cancer. Dion was joined on stage by her 15-year-old son, Ren #InsideEdition

The people of Quebec knew Rene before Celine and he didn’t steal her childhood, her family sought him out many times to make her a star and that’s what he did. Celine is Canada’s maple leaf and we would have never had her talent grace our lives had it not been for Rene’s sacrifices. Let’s get is straight: she loved him and wanted him to marry her. No coercion there whatsoever.

I don't doubt Celine's love Rene. Their marriage was solid. But from what I read, her mother did not approve of her relationship with him because of their age difference. Her mom pointed out to her that Rene had already been married and divorced twice and already had kids, the oldest of them is the same age as Celine. Imagine how they must've felt having Celine for a stepmother, someone young enough to be their sister or schoolmate. Celine, of course, didn't care what her mother thought. But this may also be another reason why her mother didn't approve because she knew something like this would happen. She knew that Celine would most likely outlive Rene and he'd be gone while Celine would have so much more of her life left and would have to spend so many more years missing him. I guess her mother was just afraid of her getting hurt.
Although, Celine does not, at all, regret her a single moment of her marriage Rene, she has admitted that she does now have a better understanding of how her mother felt about her relationship with Rene now that she's a mother herself. She admitted that she would never approve of one her boys getting involved with a woman that's 26 years older than him.
