    Miles sent me his 2 year weight loss video diary. It was so good I turned into a RUclips video, linked below, and had loads of you ask for more information on the man - so here it is!

    When I'm out running and I see someone who is overweight, I always think how brave they are and they are doing something.

    Really refreshing to hear men talking about challenging and important emotional topics. Well done both.

    His line where he said "I am trying to say yes more" is what stuck with me. Thanks for the video.

    In my opinion running for most people should be like that. The objective is to get from A to B (even when A and B is the same place) and how fast the track is run should be of secondary concern. If everyone on this planet would do that, there would be more happiness and we would have much less problems in the health department.
    Back then, when I started runnning on my first 10k, I said to my wife this is going to be my personal Ultra. I walked I ran, I stopped to make pictures. And I still run today. For fun mostly. Its great to run faster, but that comes naturally as a part of it.

      @zaconeil3709 6 месяцев назад

      I think people 'should' stop saying that running 'should' be like their personal preference in terms of what they do. It's fantastic that you enjoy the running that you do. Other people enjoy running to get faster and it's absurd to say that this is a negative impact on the world.

      @@zaconeil3709true as well. But I feel that too many burn up in the comparison with themselves or others.

    • @zaconeil3709
      @zaconeil3709 6 месяцев назад

      @SheriffsSimShack if that's true. It's the fault of strava, rather than a general desire to get faster

    This was an awesome interview. As someone in the middle of losing a bunch of weight it was great to hear you both talk about your journeys. I also loved his explanation of why he wears bright colours. As someone who has worn nothing but black shirts for a few years, it makes me think about changing things up and having fun with it.

    I listened to this at work on Spotify and it made my day better. As an endurance person, I really agree with it being kind of selfish because it takes so much time, and that is time away from family and other responsibilities. The other thing that really hit home was when Miles mentioned listening to podcasts as a positive influence substituting in someways the people that you want to be able to surround yourself with, I feel that. No one I know wants to go on a 5 mile let alone 12 mile run.

  • @ASkippingRock

    I think what strikes me most as I listened to this amazing interview, is how much more of the world opens up to you when you are in better shape (mental / physical) and fitter. You both conveyed the joy of the trails so strongly I wanted to get out immediately (rest day) but I'll hold that in mind a plan for the weekend. I think you've even been the tipping point for me signing up to an ultra trail event in the autumn... Also Thursday evening is going to be the perfect time to start to track where I am at with my food, strength and running. Step 1, see where I'm at before working on incremental changes.

    Thank you for this. As someone on my journey, it’s hard not to get defeated while looking at my progress against the calendar. It’s a good reminder that it’s the little victories that add up to big ones given enough time.

    (Joking obviously)
    Cool platform you are building Mark!
    My trigger was a breakup where we had to carry on living together so spending hours after work at the gym was better than being at home. I lost a few stone and that was transformative enough, can't imagine that much. I'm back up a bit since then but it's a combination of muscle and fat so I look and feel much better.

    Mark please ask questions. You used his phrase that he hated himself in his favourite place and then didn’t ask him about that you just talked at him. Less you more them. Your videos are you. The podcast is either an interview or a conversation. Give the guests a chance

    • @andrewmcalister3462

      Sadly, I agree with this one. I love Mark’s work, but making an interview a genuine conversation with the guest needs more work.

    A change in diet is only affective if it’s sustainable. Sometimes radical changes are bad because they are hard to sustain. Sometimes a small change is better if you can keep it long term.

  • @chrisc7262
    @chrisc7262 6 месяцев назад

    As you say it's not about balancing a calorie equation (not sustainable).
    As we know, it's hormone levels and their effects on the mind and body (not will power or any mental strength).
    (leptin, insulin, ghrelin, cortisol, neuropeptide Y, cholecystokinin, etc)
    Make food choices that will correct hormone levels, but don't restrict good food.
    Make achievable atomic level 1% habits (don't set unreachable goals).
    Get good at doing something while you do it, don't wait for some fictional person to tell you, that you are ready to run a park run etc.
    😌☺🙏👍
