You are so correct. I am an American who lived in Japan for 2 years. I got a very serious case of flu in Japan and had to go to the hospital. I had no insurance in Japan. I had an IV, saw two specialist and got bed care and medicine. When I checked out of the hospital, I got a bill for $120. My niece visited from Vietnam to the USA and went to the emergency room for a light infection. She received a bill for $5000 for 2 hours of medical service and testing.
@Abe Eiland. I try to point this out to my family and friends in the US who have US and other citizenships, and they look at me as if I were insane. Go figure.
I just got a cleaning, three filings and a brand new retainer in Mexico for less than $300 USD. A friend of mine is paying $1300 for a root canal in the US. When it came to eye care my partner and I together was a third of the cost of my last eye doctor appointment in the US and the eye doctor came to our house. The math just doesn’t math when it comes to the cost of health in the US.
I have received excellent care in Mexico at private hospitals that make US facilities look like field hospitals. And they cost a fraction of the american services, as well as treat you like a human being. Gracias amigos!
Great summary of this topic. After tax savings, I would argue that obtaining health coverage abroad is possibly the second largest money saving strategy for expats.
Very true, from personal experience Prince Court Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur offers some of the best care in the world compared to even developed european countries like Germany.
Self-insuring to a degree, private health coverage, and, most important of all, disease prevention are the tenets of a good health and healthcare cost strategy. Thank you for sharing your tactics - incredibly helpful.
With you 100% Andrew. I've been a nomad cap for years and will die one. However, the mix of comprehensive and catastrophic works for ages 20-60, but will be completely unaffordable for most in ages 60-100. In fact, many companies won't even insure you over 80. I've narrowed my elderly plan, therefore, to either residing in a place like France (where I'd be covered completely), or Mexico (where it's just super cheap). The obvious problem with the former is they'd rob my wealth and cap gains til I'm in the poor house. And prob with the latter is paying cancer out of pocket could be 100s of thousands. How about you? Plans for catastrophic health needs at 60, 70, 80 + ???
If you are a US citizen, a health ministry may be the best option. The one I am part of, covers overseas bills along with US bills. Costs about $2.5k/yr. $2k deductible.
Thank u Andrew. U answered my main concern, which was where does travel insurance send you? Answer: where your a resident and have local coverage. :) i know a few malay drs that trained in Australia. I met them at uni. So i agree w/u re quality care/training that some malay drs receive through gov. Scholarship programs. I wish i bougt house in malaysia back in 2003-5. "learning point"
Take a Deep breath. Assume the position... Head goes in, head cums out. Exhale... namaste. Ohhhhhhhmmmmmmm You are now at peace and relaxed. And..... Looks like he fell asleep.😑
You would find that there are ways to use for example Swiss insurance firms that will provide you with Global coverage but also provide Extraction coverage so you can be medically flown out of some not good country to your preferred location. You know I did a lot of work With Johns Hopkins hospital system
I would qualify having now experienced the problem in Panama that not all drugs are available around the world. Each country creates its own formulary. While one may want to avoid the high cost of US insurance one also has to look at the availability of similar treatment options which do not become apparent until you are in the system.
Continued: and JH there was a steady flow from around the world probably from countries you think have great healthcare for high net worth individuals in those countries to come to Hopkins for regular check ups or for very serious issues you know care here might be expensive but it actually is the best in the world. And so frankly in less high net worth individual becomes and Nomad capitalist is confident in their own ability to assess medical care I would suggest that creating a global program that provides for extraction which can cost up to $50,000 is a good idea I think paying cash at all levels of service is perfect don’t ensure what you can handle comfortably by paying cash and you would actually find it if you do that in the United States your price and cost of Treatment gets dramatically lower because money talks and they hate taking with the insurance company will pay anyway which is always reduced from what they really want you can negotiate payment with doctors and hospitals really you can
I always wonder why my family travels to other countries just to receive a different bill, but now I'm researching for healthcare insurance and Americans are complaining about the health care system, I realized it's expensive for everyone.
I want to review different countries health plans without using a an American company middleman. I don't trust them. Can you please suggest a resource?
Andrew I have a question. What have you found to be the best way to send money from a U.S bank to say European banks? It does not make sense to pay high fees to use Swift codes which are hardly supported in the U.S. banking system. Primarily paying on investment property, these high fees dig into profits defeating the core purpose.
Andrew, are you eligible for the state ran insurance plans in Georgia or Malaysia or do you just not choose to use them since you feel that the private healthcare is better?
There’s no state run insurance plan in Malaysia. Anyone can use the state run hospitals, citizens pay nominal fees and non citizens pay a little more. But you have to wait at these state run hospitals.
Im in india im going to egypt and multi trip other contries is well .while trip international health Insurance is good for me? How much for 6 months.? I can get it asap
Half right. Half wrong. Fine plan for younger people. And without catastrophic illness. But there is a third tier of coverage you need by a government (or by major wealth) for long-term major illness.

Good enough reason alone to leave the 🇺🇸..
ditto.. "Go where your treated best"
Oh my God
Excellent Andrew. American nomads will be shocked when they discover what you touched on, cost, quality of care. Thank you for your help.
My pleasure, Abe.

Quite possibly.

I love the risk transfer idea. Most people do not understand insurance. Great explanation.
Insurance = Pooled Risk
Awesome insights on global healthcare and insurance. Thanks Andrew!...
With you 100% Andrew.

Health care is the best illustration for "go where you treated best"

Hi
I can’t find any information on this
Can you please tell me more and help.
Thank you so much
If you get sick in usa and don't have insurance you will be in debt forever with all the medical bills

Excellent video; thank you.
Thanks! This was very helpful and provided more context than what was in the book.
God bless you for this information

Nice
Additional info on who you decided to get your insurance through, with a link, would be even better.
Detailed & priceless information.
Your'e Good ...Very good at what you do !
You don't tell people which companies and plans are best. You give some interesting advice but there's no tangible advice.
He stated at the beginning of his video that this was not to give specific company or plan advice.
Hi Andrew! Which insurance do you have in Georgia? Health care seems pretty cheap around here. And what travel cover do you recommend?
What hospital do you go to for this intensive checkup, Andrew?
so we get to the real talk now
How did you get your policy in malaysia?
Does anybody know of any health insurance companies that offer health insurance to international patients seeking treatment in the USA?
What do you do when your at your home in Montenegro?
Have arrangements in advance to fly over the water to San Marino.. Maybe even get a policy there
Can a Visa stay in Malaysia get that kind of coverage?
I remember an international policy good in many countries except US and maybe others
David Shield from Israel is a good alternative to nomad entrepreneurs

Andrew, are you eligible for the state ran insurance plans in Georgia or Malaysia or do you just not choose to use them since you feel that the private healthcare is better?
I doubt I am eligible, I wouldn't want them, and as I don't pay my way it wouldn't be fair to take.
There’s no state run insurance plan in Malaysia. Anyone can use the state run hospitals, citizens pay nominal fees and non citizens pay a little more. But you have to wait at these state run hospitals.
That was a great educational video about health care for frequent travelers and more .Hey Andew in hwich portal can I ask you questions ?
Hi Stephan, You can email help@nomadcapitalist.com and the team will be happy to serve you.
what if your not a six to seven-figure entrepreneur and just a five-figure entrepreneur do your principles still apply or I don't qualify?
The principles he told in this video apply for everyone who can afford a nomad lifestyle.....so yes, you are qualified.

I"m an expat and currently living in Medellin. I am considering making the move to Thailand. I wonder if heathcare is better in Malaysia?
Wireline .Cables I wonder same thing. From what I know Singapore is the best then Malasiya/Thailand are the second. Maybe Malasiya slightly better.
hello there sir
like how you handle sim cards.
$400 a year!? That's a steal. I'd like to know through what insurance company?
Half right. Half wrong.
Fine plan for younger people. And without catastrophic illness.
But there is a third tier of coverage you need by a government (or by major wealth) for long-term major illness.
