I`m still breeding at this moment, got 16 young ones and a few nests with eggs. I think i will get 20 or 30 young birds this year.
In Italy we mix 8 grams of carophyl red to 1 kg of soft-food, i guess there is a lot of different ways to achieve the end result. Greetings from a fellow breeder!
I'm thinking to obtain a recessive white female canary with a intense red male canary. Is this color agent safe for other types of birds to ingest without harm? Because I do want to keep my one pair of canaries in my aviary with society finch, diamond dove, senegal dove, zebra dove, button quail, namaqua dove, and bourkes parakeet. Would feeding this color agent be any danger to the other birds? For this reason I'm thinking to feed natural foods to keep the red coloring up.
@Sweetie Pie you could try using natural colouring, but it never worked that well years back that's why they came up with carophyll, I have never tried myself but it's worth a try
Hi there Thanx for all the info...I have a very aggressive female (Stunningly beautiful) and she fights with the mail.(Brilliant singer but a little intimidated by her behaviour) She has laid about a dozen eggs so far - all of them infertile. I made my own candling contraption to test the eggs .Shall I change the male or should I remove her altogether...reluctant to do either! have you any advice for me. Thanx lots Clive

I know this probably goes a long way but it does seem a very small amount for the cost. ........ Was wondering if you think this amount will make enough water for all of these birds through their moult. They have 3 babies from their first nest and have 2 still in their nest at the moment :)

I assumed that the white feathers would stay white and it would only enhance what would naturally turn red.. should it not be given at all at that time or moderately and not not daily? i have been using the red eggfood

You can buy red soft egg food for red factor canaries. I have the red egg food for my canary and regular for the rest of my birds. Fed once a week.

All colour agents can have an effect on long-term use with all birds as it can damage their liver

What happens if you constantly feed this to a white canary will he change a little? Or what could happen?
If it's not got the red gene, it will not turn red, a white bird may go a muddy white

what month is the adult moult?

Hi, you should have stared with the colour food a month before the molt started and continue until he is fully molted out around 2 months.
