Hope you enjoy guys! 😃We've got Alice exploring the streets of Cambridge in the next couple of weeks. And if you can't wait that long, here's her full playlist 👉ruclips.net/p/PLPYbVPqV7je9aFrONncy7mtqFJA2E3LcP
Are you guys actually aware that there's anything outside of the general London area? It'd be nice to see this kind of segment for other places such as exeter, york, manchester, liverpool. You know. Other places in the UK.
Thank you we do. Why you cutting off Allice legs? Alice has best legs among British Historians.Alice is known as English "Tina Turner " she even danced in the last sequence.. But Taliban censorship cut her legs out of the sequence.😢😢😢😮
I visited Oxford only once in about 1988. Aside from the history and architecture, I remember two things. Having lunch at The Bear (oldest pub in Oxford), and while wandering the streets with some of my classmates, bumping into an older gentleman who must have thought we Canadian students were an interesting lost looking bunch. We figured he was pulling our leg about who he was, but he offered us a private tour of the Oxford Town Hall. We followed him to humour him, and then we were surprised when the police officer at a side entrance let us all in. I think he realized we didn't believe him, so at one point he gestured at one of the paintings and asked if the guy looked familiar. Sure enough he was a former Lord Mayor. I think it might have been Lord Mayor Fred Ingram or possibly Lord Mayor William Fagg. A really nice guy.
I am going to guess William Fagg. Sounds like him. There are several other sites that weren't mentioned but she did a good Job. If you want to dive deeper into the "City of Dreaming Spires." I recommend the book by Jan Morris by that title.
The problem with teaching history, especially in the UK, is that the periods and knowledge is decided by the curriculum, and that doesn't change, so you end up teaching the same things over and over and over, and it's really quite hard to remain enthusiastic about something when it's the 10th time you've taught it. However a tv history presenter can pick and choose what subjects to present and never has to repeat anything they didn't find interesting.
Oxford is so beautiful, so happy to call it hone. Alice always does an amazing job of telling these stories and bringing history to life, her passion and enthusiasm is infectious!
Thank you for including the Headington Shark! Every time I see it I laugh at how BIG it is. Another Oxford-to-Headington historical tidbit is Cuckoo Lane, it's an ancient path still used as a shortcut behind houses and shops, and very charming!
I used travel to compete at the Oxford IV debate tournament every year back from 2009-2012. Not only was it some of the most memorable experiences of my life, but being surrounded by all of that history and amongst so many intelligent people was indescribable. It feels so cool doing everything simply because you’re in Oxford. The tournament was hosted at the Oxford Union, so that added another level to the whole experience. We would just hang out in the Old library, competing in the small rooms upstairs or at the top of a small stairwell, or even in the main chamber when the opportunity arose. Seeing those final debate rounds- a packed student chamber with everyone cheering, pounding their hands, drinking, and just having an overall good time- will forever be something I cherish. What an honor to compete at such a historical and renowned place. Oh- and shout out to The Eagle and Child! 🤯
I loved my visit to Oxford on my 21st birthday. Alice did a great job--she's super pretty and I love the excitement and knowledge she brings. Reminds me of the awesome walking tours I took while studying in London!
C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were not just writing buddies but also rather competitive! C.S. Lewis proposed they tried their hand at science fiction, to see who wrote the best story. C. S. Lewis wrote the "Cosmic Trilogy" - 'Out of the Silent Planet', 'Perelandra', and 'That Hideous Strength''. (Worth a read if you have the time). Tolkien never completed his side of the bargain, presumably being too busy constructing the monumental tasl of creating the stories from Middle Earth!
At 2m 35secs Alice is walking up Beaumont Street with Worcester College behind her, the white van just obscuring the main entrance gate. The office window where my father worked as Head Porter in the 1960's is just above the van bonnet. The house we used to live in is just out of sight across the road - thanks for the lovely memories your video brought back.
Interesting! I can well believe in the story of C. S. Lewis' inspiration. Oxford /Cambridge differences, such as quad vs court and the two pronunciations of Magdalen were apparently used to trip up well prepared spies during WW2.. Nice one Alice! 🌟👍
I spent a lot of time underneath Radcliffe Camera as a PhD student studying some of those 600,000 books. It was full of black dust and I came out every day very very dirty.
A very enjoyable & enlightening tour if my, I lived & worked at RAF(USAFE) UPPER HEYFORD for 9 years, most loved city of England. And I toured many while I lived there. As I was. CS LEWIS, was inspired by the many fantastic, MORRELS , Pubs.
She's so cute and knowledgeable, be still my heart - love her style too, fitting for looking back into history as a seeming throw-back to perhaps the 60's/mid-century modern.
Oxford is easily my favourite town/ small city that I’ve ever been to, it has a really special atmosphere to the place and you’re surrounded by history
My favourite of the videos you publish... now in 4k! Thanks History Hit! My desktop viewing is now absolutely top notch. Looking forward to Alice's next architectural adventure!
Alice your passion for history shines through in all your videos. Would that my history teachers were as enthusiastic about the subject when I was at school. I'm Oxford born and raised and you've taught me things I never knew. If you can educate a 76 year old about his home town you can educate anyone.
This was awesome! I leave for Oxford in two weeks, and this is the best video I've seen for exploring. It's also astonishingly high quality - thank you!
Crikey you must have been up at some unholy hour to avoid the tourists and commuters in central Oxford! There's also an underground railway beneath the RadCam (disused) for moving books, a treacle mine out at Binsey (Terry Pratchett), the Dodo at the natural history, the shear size of Blackwell's and so much more.
Excellent summary indeed Alice! One thing I'd comment on is that you could've mentioned that on the day C.S.Lewis died two other famous men also died. They were the equally famous author Aldous Huxley and U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy's death totally overshadowed Lewis and Huxley's deaths and commonality of dates was largely forgotten then as now.

What about Hull?

@@OanKnight Is this the first video of hers you've watched? Must be.

Fun, enthusiastic history- not dull and dusty. Makes you want to research each topic. Brilliant
Ms Loxton is another great presenter and so enthusiastic without being condescending in her delivery - brilliant!
I could listen to her all day, her enthusiasm for history is infectious, in a good way!
Lived in Oxford for 28 years. nice place if you go into the town area everywhere else is basically just a mini London borough outside of it
Oxford is so beautiful, so happy to call it hone. Alice always does an amazing job of telling these stories and bringing history to life, her passion and enthusiasm is infectious!
Wonderfully presented with an infectious enthusiasm! Thank you to Alice and the History Hit team! 👍👏

she has her own channel History with Allice and she so deserves more views and and subs every one here get on board
Alice makes history come alive for me, as Tony Robinson did when I was younger. Great job 👌
We need more of Alice's enthusiasm. This video was a joy to watch. Subscribed! 🤗

whatever Alice has got, I think she should bottle and sell it! one of my favourite presenters ever because shes so bright and cheery!
Beautiful outfit!
Alice is so charismatic and lovable and Oxford is such a gorgeous city!!
Alice is a wonderful presenter and narrator! She should start a business giving guided History tours all about the UK to tourists!
Excited to watch this. I am from Oxford but not lived in the UK for years.

Loved this, so much fun! Thank you Alice 🇬🇧
My dad used to study at Oxford so we used to visit there quite a lot, The Eagle and Child is a pub we went to frequently.🙂
Always known as the "Bird and Baby"
I just read _The Dictionary of Lost Words_ recently. It's cool to see Murray's mailbox in this video. 😊
Nicholas Ridley was at one point vicar of our village, Herne in Kent.
Great video! I just *love* Alice as a presenter! So much energy!

Alice, you are absolutely a proper goofball, and I really enjoy watching your videos. You running down the Mott and Bailey was so funny.
Define ‘goofball’?

Well done Alice, you make every video really interesting and fun, 👍👏👏👏👍.
Alice. Legend.
Love your work 👍
Alice Loxton -- Happiness is a guided historical tour with beautiful Alice. She is a dream come true.
Love Alice, will be watching all her videos!
Thanks. This is the first I've heard of the origins of Mr. Tumnus.
Another place to visit someday, even though I am more drawn to Cambridge myself.
This was so much fun! Thank you! I look forward to seeing all these sights when I visit England sometime soon, hopefully! ☺️
My history teachers were as enthusiastic as Alice and that is why I love history.
Quite interesting, especially as I've never been to the UK. Lovely "guide" too.

Thank you for the information. Because I’m going to London in July I will remember these great places to go too.
Excellent VLOG on the beautiful city

Your a hit with me, love it! Keep em coming dear.
good video ..do you know about the tunnel underground running from the camera to Bodleian library on far side of broad Street?
Tfsharing these amazing videos
with Alice.
❤
Thank you Alice. Just perfect!!
Thank you ☺️🇺🇲❤️
I love Alice Loxton!
I agree, think the lamppost, etc., did inspire C.S. Lewis to write the book. Which my granddaughter loves!
Enjoyable, and I affirm your manner of presentation.
Enthusiasm certainly contagious.
Very interesting Cs Lewis is one of my favorite writers
Alice would of be the best history teacher, class would be a forever buzz🤙🏽
Visited this place! Thanks for the vid!

A lovely presentation by a Gorgeous Lady
Excellent video which I enjoyed watching 👍😀😀😀😀
Great video! And I was thinking that my beloved Dorothy Sayers was also a member of the Inklings, but I looked it up and she wasn’t.
Is it odd that when you mentioned Endeavor I immediately thought Morse ... along with a very different Lewis?
Loved every minute 😃 thanks for such an entertaining video 🙃
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really like her! She does this so well!
Thank you!
The fact I had zero interest in History at School but I’m now obsessed with these vids is testament to the education systems failings
Weldon Alice about time 👏👏👏👏👏🏴🏴
LOVE this channel!!! I NEEEEED mooooore! Lol
Love you darling Alice, but very little was said of what lies beneath the University. Please do continue! Love 'n Light best & cheers, Sean
I've lived in Oxford all my life, and I've never heard the Radcliffe Camera referred to as the 'Rad Cam'. Is this a student thing??
Times change, but in the 70s we used to call it simply "The Radcliffe".
To me, being 'town' & not gown the Radcliffe would mean the hospital, although the JR is more commonly used these days.
