Trying to understand this Taylor Swift phenomenon, I listened to this song 4 times. She’s very pretty, she has a wonderful voice, it’s an amazing performance - but there’s no song stuck in my head. When I first heard Your Song by Elton John I found myself at the piano at 2am learning it (yeh, I’m old). Billy Joel’s You’re My Home got me to learn guitar. Train’s Drops of Jupiter keeps me up a night learning the violin sections. Don’t even get me started about John Williams… I listened to this song four times, it didn’t leave any music in my head. You are correct regarding this particular musical genre. However, as a total package, Swift is a superb role model for the global community. She can inspire a variety of positive changes, which will make the world a better place. Musically, give her some time and she might just evolve the way the Beatles did.
Good music like this connects with emotions within people, and that's what makes it so great. But we're not all the same and we don't walk the same paths, so maybe you have different emotions inside you that connects better with 'Your Song' or 'John Williams'. I played two Taylor Swift songs and two songs she covered - Drops of Jupiter and Fire and Rain. Nobody recognized Lover as an instrumental song - it sounded like I was just playing chords. By comparison, people stopped in their tracks by the second chord for Drops of Jupiter. This isn’t the first time that lyrics have been more important than the music - Bob Dylan made a career out of it, and Taylor is a lot easier to look at.

Trying to understand this Taylor Swift phenomenon, I listened to this song 4 times. She’s very pretty, she has a wonderful voice, it’s an amazing performance - but there’s no song stuck in my head. When I first heard Your Song by Elton John I found myself at the piano at 2am learning it (yeh, I’m old). Billy Joel’s You’re My Home got me to learn guitar. Train’s Drops of Jupiter keeps me up a night learning the violin sections. Don’t even get me started about John Williams… I listened to this song four times, it didn’t leave any music in my head. However, as a total package, Swift is a superb role model for the global community. She can inspire a variety of positive changes, which will make the world a better place.
Musically, give her some time and she might just evolve the way the Beatles did.
Good music like this connects with emotions within people, and that's what makes it so great. But we're not all the same and we don't walk the same paths, so maybe you have different emotions inside you that connects better with 'Your Song' or 'John Williams'. AURORA once said that music helps us feel. I think that's very true, especially if the specific music helps you feel the specific emotions that are already inside of you.

@@MyYogaVideo I put my theory to the test. There’s a Yamaha kiosk at the mall, and plenty of kids around. I played two Taylor Swift songs and two songs she covered - Drops of Jupiter and Fire and Rain. Nobody recognized Lover as an instrumental song - it sounded like I was just playing chords. By comparison, people stopped in their tracks by the second chord for Drops of Jupiter. This isn’t the first time that lyrics have been more important than the music - Bob Dylan made a career out of it, and Taylor is a lot easier to look at.
