Lived in Stockton til I was 13 yrs old, glad my pops moved us out of there to Oregon. Glad for the lessons this town gave me, couldn't be soft living here
I grew up East side Stockton. A lot of crazy stories but I’m happy I left
Please don’t tell me you moved to Oakland! 😅
Grew up here, left 5 years ago. Don’t miss it.
Born and raised in Stockton, 1990 to 2014. Glad I left for Kansas and dont miss it at all. Used to live on Nantucket drive. Rode my bike everywhere. Im surprised I was never killed randomly.
long yellow bldg is the stockton hotel. in 19th c., paddle wheel boats came in from sf and docked there. lived in stockton as a teenager 1962-68. lived near uop, went to stagg. very different town then. really felt the '60s vibe even that far from sf. we had a little boat and went water skiing out in the delta.
There’s a historical red brick building called the Medici dental in downtown Stockton. It’s so fascinating looking at it. 😢
Cool… I will take a look at it the next time I’m in town. Thanks!
Born and raised there. Born in 1962. We lived on Weber between D & E. Stockton had it's glory days. You have no idea. Jobs everywhere. Everybody was working. No homeless. Cheap gas, cheap groceries. People were so nice and respectful to each other. Newberry's, Kress, Mode-O-Day, Lerner's, Rosenthal's and JC Penny's were big sellers downtown. Down at the Mall, was Macy's and Weinstocks Department store. Then there was Mac Disco department store on Filbert and Weber. It was the original Walmart. We lived across the street from Teichert Construction Company on Weber with Union Ice Company to the left of us ( or west side). Before Union Ice was built ( that building is still there) it was a big empty field and right against our driveway edge on that property - was a 100 year old wooden jail building! It was a left over from the old cowboy days in Stockton! I'm talking a hold-over from the time of horses, carriages, cowboy hats and saloons! It was a small jail. Locked with a chain and lock and no key anyone could find. It remained there for years before they came and got it to build the Union Ice Company. It had the two windows with iron bars across. An all wood structure, wooden floor and wooden bench on the inside. The jailed person slept on the floor. We would peer into that thing all hours of the day and night hoping to see the ghost of a long gone jailed cowboy. 🙂 . Down the street from us towards the east was the KWG Radio Station where they played what was known at that time as "elevator music". The big field behind that building was one of 6 or 7 different playgrounds for us. In the winter the grass was everywhere and as tall as us 7, 8 and 10 year olds. We had so much fun in that field! It just so happens that along the edge of that big wonderful playground, there were about 4 different fruit trees that were there to give us seasonal fruit. We had organic plums, cherries, apricots, peaches. There were also grape vines everywhere. Red grapes and white ones. In addition, almond and walnut trees all over our block. We had almond and walnut trees at home also. In the alley right behind us was the tallest Tamarind tree you ever saw. We had our challenges when we were kids - but in retrospect, we had the best environment and childhood a bunch of kids could ever ask for. I could go on and on. 🙂. Those were the quintessential days of wine and roses.
Wow my friend, you just bring me back with your to 1962. What you just describes sound so amazingly peaceful and productive time. I reread 3 x and enjoy every words. Is the Tamarind tree still there? Thank you so much for sharing this West Coast.
Yup those were the days
@@mariem.1398 Thanks for your comment, Happy Valentin's Day.
It sucks now...
@@philipmccarthy4975 Not really compared to some cities in California. My husband and I are twenty years plus residents here in Stockton (moved from Southern Ca) so far no bad experiences to report all are pluses.😇
Lived north of Hammer Lane from 1972-82. Those were a LONG ten years. Whenever I took the bus downtown then, it was rather tawdry and beat-up looking. This video shows it in a much better light.
I love Stockton! My grandparents lived there for 70+ years, my mom and uncle graduated high school there and my parents got married there! Stockton is in my heart forever!
Thank you so very much for sharing this Jen McMahon. I Love Stockton too, I have great memories back in the 80's .
Why does everyone rank it as America's most miserable city? Where are all the people?
Good for you ! Most people want out of this town...
Me too.I got everything what ever I lost since I moved to stockton.
Why nobody walks rides a bicycle? Dangerous? Empty like in covid time
I could be gone for 13 years and Stockton Califaz still look the same. I was born and raised here. born in French camp raised in Central.
Please give your honest opinion of what you like about this video or my whole channel. Trying to find ways to improve video and entertain you . Thank you for your feedback.
I'm coming to Los Angeles soon to check out video.
Went to Stockton yesterday. Never been so scared in my life! Most of the population looks beyond poor-although everyone seems to still have a sports car. Tons of sports cars and people on bikes with boom boxes.
dangerous as shit. don’t come. 🙂🙅🏽♂️
@@sendinshotz my son was killed there in march 2021 at the motel 6 on march lane. 🙏🥺
@@rattiegirl5 if u never been that scared then don’t go to west Oakland lower bottoms or east Oakland 😂
Born and raised in Stockton, now I live in San Diego. Every single time I go visit my family the city looks worse and worse.
I came from San Diego to here use to live in Logan heights
@@neroelysium2594 lmk the comparisons Brodie
I live in Stockton and travel for work doing construction and every time I go back to San Diego it’s a bigger shit hole than the last time all those homeless folks really ruins a beautiful city.
@@oguncleflip2387 lol not going to lie the homeless problem has gotten worse the past year But I would still want to live in San Diego than Stockton.
@@Im_onClaud9 I moved to Stockton back in 2001 and it has its ups and downs but more downs due to the nonsense murders that go on here.
Stockton has really changed over the years. Delivered meat products to a lot of stores. A-1 Market, Alpine, Food 4 Less and others. Loved Tony's Pizza. Georges Chinese.
Downtown stockton after 6pm in the summertime. Still light out. Streets eerily quite except for many mostly young men, all races but most poor and lost looking. Many just standing doing nothing, but staring at the horizon forlornly. Quite a spooky experience that left a real impression on me...
Thanks for sharing . Happy Sunday 👍
@@MR.OWENCALIFORNIA you the same! 🌻
Great video man
I have been living in stockton since 2009.I like this town.Use to be a crime city now getting way better.I am glad I choose this town to live forever I guess.I came from ft benning GA.
While Stockton has definitely seen better days, it's a city of contrasts. The tour left out the beautiful College of Pacific s area, the incredible neighborhood surrounding it, a charming area the locals refer to as the 'Miracle Mile', etc. Some residential areas in particular have retained their original charm and still others are absolutely elegant.
i live right in that area by UOP. my favorite part of stockton for sure
I’m from STOCKTON ever since MLK Blvd in the south side of Stockton was named CHARTERWAY . Moved out about 10 yrs ago. Except for Fam and some homies I don’t really miss the place oh also the best MEXICAN FOOD named Arroyos mex food. 👍
Thanks, I will try out foods from that place the next time in town.
Miss living there. Lived many places around that city. Had so much fun growing up there. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing friend.
@@MR.OWENCALIFORNIA Do you have any going up Pac Ave or near the malls?
@@sociablenot9069 I do have some more footage on Hammer Lane: ruclips.net/video/RZZH35oe7Yo/видео.html
I will up date around Pacific Ave. & around the mall area some time next week. Thanks.
@@MR.OWENCALIFORNIA Please share thank you so very much. I have shown my children where I lived. I worked on Hammer Lane. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this. Much respect.
@@sociablenot9069 I am glad to hear this. I Really appreciated your comments, watching and sharing with us.
I appreciate this video. The only other video I could find was a drive through downtown back in the 70s or 80s. I have recorded a drive through the entire city but it is poor quality. I will have to re shoot it and brake it up into sections.
I would love to see how Stockton looks back in the 70s & 80s. Thanks for watching this one Squash H.
Love that big block sized yellow building by the marina with the red tile roof. Huge flocks of birds often circle there at dusk! Stockton is a neat and historic city, clearly west coast yet also seems like another world from nearby bay area. Interesting slightly spooky California-rust belt sort of feel to the city.
Great attention to detail my friend. Thanks for sharing.
@@Chicano8305 no that is just not true. It is true that Stockton is badly troubled, and is not that big nor cosmopolitan, but it is quite diverse and is HARDLY featureless! It is actually very uneque and distinctive in its architecture, it's parks system, and in it's history and culture in general! It also has small but distinctive food and art scenes as well. Stockton is a largely poor, historic, troubled small city that is now sorounded by largely decaying suburban sprawl, -both within the city limits. It is very ethnically diverse but compared to most big cities, it is also very regionally oriented and vernacular in culture, old fashioned but still eclectic, without being bland or overly rigid. This actually helps it's diverse cultures blend togather and assimilate much better then is true in many big cities.
@@Chicano8305 LA is over rated
@@Chicano8305 who slapped you in or from Stockton?🤣
@@jKLa pretty nice on the north side and west side and east side u got big yards and land just gotta take care of ur shit

A radio station down town

There was a home with big picture window. At Christmas time great displays. One year it had santa

Graduation ceremonies

Good fishing in the canals.
Those were the days.

We are all indebted to Benjamin Holt for inventing tractor treads.
Love this town 💯
That's great.. me too.
The architecture suggests it may have been a decent city at one time, similar to what’s happened to Detroit and Baltimore over time.
Good observation.
I see Xochimilco café is still there. The only real reason to visit downtown if you ask me.
The best Mexican restaurant ever
Well the movies are cool too
By the way is Arroyo's Mexican Cafe still there?
Yes they moved to North Stockton many years ago
I love Stockton... Cheap food and a lahhhhtttt.... 😄😜🤣
Im in these streets daily if you keep to yourself you wont die. Its all about what you are into most of the time
I know its been filmed w lockdowns and such but, is this really downtown stockton? Dang
Yep, this is downtown. Thank for watching.

moreover it takes alot of requirement to be filled to see mighty US
i wish i could ever visit california once in my life 😢
Crazy shootout
This video would go great accompanied by Elton John's "Tiny Dancer."
I agreed that would be wonderful if I have the right to his song & music.. Thank you very much for watching this video.
Why?
I saw heath barkley
I live here I don’t hate it😊
Nate diaz brought me here
I’m in French camp and of course there’s a fire 😂
I hope not , We don't need any more fire :) Thanks Dope Carlos for your comment and watching this vdo.
Hi here lives the tape diaz I am a fan of it
California NEEDS A NEW GOVERNOR!!!
I agreed. LOL👍
And a new mayor.... Lincoln's done nothing worth noticing so far.
Looks like every other part of SoCal. I don't get what's so mean and badass about it.
It’s not SoCal. It’s a huge ghetto. Downtown is just a disguise.
Right
I only know of this place because of Nate and Nick Diaz
They from lodi
@Eduardo veratagui córdoba aui es stockton cal aquí vivo si amor mio te amo mucho bebe 💕 bendiciones corazón ❤ bendiciones bebe
Thank you Teresa.
My god, I’ve been out of Stockton and seeing these streets brings so many memories, I remember I saw a crack head get his ass whooped right in that Macdonald’s right next to highway 4 and I was there when that kid got stabbed to death at the theaters lol. You gotta do a tour of the south side
It really happened all over California especially Oakland , Fresno, Fremont, in northern calif. Definitely not only in Stockton.
Why is this city so empty?
I love it by the way
I guess Covid-19 kept some people inside during the time I took this video :) . Thanks for watching Khalil Boss, have a bless day my friend.
@khalilboss It's because of the covid 19 that's why.
The year 2021 was the height of Covid 19 where everyone were required to wear face mask.
Do incoming freshmen ever arrive at University of the Pacific and ask "Where's the ocean?"
Stockton is a car city nothing but cars in the street
It used to be so cool downtown. Now it's just dirty and depressing. Ruined.
Still looks good tho atleast y’all actually got a real downtown
It's the same.......it just Cuz all the local parties went to miracle mile so the homeless people took over downtown that's the city's fault
Gross place
Look at what all the cool people in California voted for. Good job guys. Now move to Texas and trash it too 👍
No don't move to Texas we don't want californians to come and trash our state
Im from stockton and moved to Kansas and converted to Kansas. I really don't like when Californians move to other states and try to change their way of life.
