This is amazing. We HAVE to show more of this! Couples getting it together. This is not easy but as we outside looking in can see…a desire to change or a mindset shift is everything, a plan to make it happen, people to hold you accountable (therapist) is a god send. Pray we all get in unison with our partners and learn how to win with money.
I will say this though…get that kids account outta there and get rid of that 10k car, Amex, Best Buy, and another card EZLY. That kids account would be built back up so fast. Smh
I love how they went from resigned and somewhat apathetic to gaining confidence in their ability to make changes. Will be rooting for them (and for me, too!)
🙌🏽
OMG! Halima gave me goosebumps when she was answering her "dad". I could see the transformation through her. You guys got this! ❤
Feeling hopeful for this couple. The comeback is always greater than the setback 🙏
Thank you David and Halima for your honesty. You are truly helping married couples with our finances.
I love that Ramit changed the ending from having them write a letter with updates and instead make an update video
Halima! You said you didnt understand finances but you are taking the ball and running with it! Brilliant - stop hiding behind your skirts and become a powerful woman who makes sure the four walls are solid for your family ! :) Bravo!
Right!
When she started talking about checking the APR, I was like uht. 👀 why is she pretending like she doesn't know nothing, she knows!!! 😂
It can be hard for smart women who are raised in a patriarchal culture, but I hope she can continue to break out of that and take control of the things that she should so she can reach her full potential.
A husband may be the head of the family, but the wife is the neck. Necks have muscles! Use them!! 😂
I have such confidence in Halima's ability to turn around her bad money patterns and feel much better about her finances. It seemed like it was getting through to her just a little bit when Ramit pointed out how effectively she executed her amazing plan to save her children's emergency funds after her first husband defrauded and abandoned her. She absolutely can do this and just needs to keep building her confidence and knowledge.
Ramit, great stuff! I do wish that you would title the videos part 1 and part 2 because it’s hard to go back and watch these videos in order when the title doesn’t indicate which comes first
I get chills watching your work come full circle Ramit!! Thank you a million times for this channel ❤
Ramit just out here, changing lives. Not just financial, but on an emotional level ... the empathy and EQ are strong in this one!
Ramit this episode was fire. I'm very curious what happened to the timeshare?
Regardless, this is showing me how I can take back my financial life and I really thank you for posting their journey and I really thank them for being so brave enough to share their journey.
I loved this episode so much! I feel like this is the only money/finance show that is culturally aware/ responsive. It’s really powerful 🙌
Proud of this couple. Halima, you are a smart woman and can learn about money. David, you want to take care of your family, and that’s admirable. You can do that and meet your savings goals. Best to you.
After watching the episode I really hope they can make the changes needed. This one was tough to watch at times but I hopefull and wish them the best.
She’s so powerful, bright and strong woman underneath. But with the mom she has it is no surprise she would act so passive and sumbissive. Fingers cross you’ll continue to work on yourself Halima so the World could see your strengh, power and wiadom you have!
I'm glad the conversation turned the way it did. 🙂 It also sounds like she needs to place HIGH AND FIRM boundaries with her parents. I hope the best for them!
Wow this was one of my favorite couples on this show! I really was like Ramit and didn’t see the optimism in their situation but the turnaround after they ran through the numbers and what they had to do and learning how to set boundaries for family opinions was great to see! Hope they can stick to the plan and make a better future for themselves! 👏🏽
Dayum Ramit is on his way to 500k Subs! Lets go fam we got this 🚀
One thing I think could be helpful to Halima, would be to work more on practicing gratitude. She keeps repeating how she wants "a bigger life", and "is this it?". It feels like she is waiting for something more. But buying groceries, going to work, hanging out at home with your family, maybe taking one vacation a year - that's "It" for most people. And that's OK! The random simple moments are often the ones that provide the most lasting memories.
As a middle aged divorced woman who was in a bad marriage, she has managed to find a good man who obviously loves her. That is not the outcome for everyone in her position. She's been through some tough times but has fought through them and now has a loving family. They make a good living and can easily get back on track (plus they both have pensions, which is huge and not very common in this day and age). I hope she doesn't spend so much time wishing for more, that she forgets to feel grateful for all that she has and how far she's come.
Very nice couple and I'm rooting for them!
Well said. When she said "is this it?" I thought yes, and those of us who have time to think that are SO lucky.
See I read her statement very different - I think it's a mix of the financial issues and kids/work. Young kids especially are a lot of work. Time with them is great, but also tiring and not your own. We also don't know what the share of the household chores is (they both mentioned traditional gender roles so it's not crazy to think Halima carries too much of the mental/chore load). I think what Halima needs is not a vacation or things (for her dopamine hits) but time with friends, alone time, hobby time. Something that can spark some passion in her life. Gratitude is great and has its place, but it sounds like she what she's looking for is more self-actualization.
What I saw is that there was a lot of "band-aid" spending and a constant need for more, without looking at the "why." They developed a hamster wheel of spending more on everything to get more, without thinking about why or what they truly wanted. I didn't catch what their schedules are like, but I imagine they both work a lot of hours, then throw in kids, household needs, renovations, frequent trips and money going in many directions with little to show at the end, it sounds exhausting. I think they need to take a break from a lot of that surplus to-do list and take a breather.
Wow, the resolution on this was amazing and so positive. What a cool couple!
46:01 Almost teared up I’m so happy for them. I’m rooting for you two!
My three favorite channels: I Will Teach You To Be Rich, Stock Brotha, & How Money Works. Make my week complete! 🔥 🔥 🔥
How money works is great
I will check out How Money Works. Never heard of it. Thanks!
I'm going to go against the grain here;
David was managing the credit card debt well. The zero percent interest promos were working for them. They had the money in savings to pay it off at any point, and hopefully accruing 5% interest. That's how these kinds of gimmicks work for people who know how to actually use them.
HOWEVER, the problem is it would have caught up to him eventually. David had no overall vision and plan to make everything work. So it's good he got a reality check.
I hope Hamila takes a more active roll in their weekly or monthly finances. She knows what she's doing, but needs to be more assertive and less of a push over. Being able to say "no" is very powerful.
David's roleplaying of Halima's parents was pure gold.
They can absolutely get things straightened out within a relatively short period of time. I wish them the best.
REALLY enjoyed these 2 episodes. While they've made a bit of a mess for themselves - it sounds like they GET IT. Making a change later in life is better than never making that change (I share this experience). Very happy for them.
This couple has such beautiful communication and support for each other!
This was a gem, loved how sweet they are to each other , i know they'l get their finances straight!
Ramit, your insight, guidance and advice just get better all the time. It is a blessing to be able to watch these conversations. Thank you ❤
Awww yay! Happy New Year to david and Halima. I really liked seeing the dynamics within your couple. Reminds me of myself and my partner. Don't give up, as long as you work together towards your dreams you guys can make it happen❤
While I agree with Ramit that they need to focus on getting out of debt, I strongly encourage David to do more research on obtaining a 100% disability status. There are benefits including the property tax exemption, partial income tax exemption, tuition assistance, and a preferential calculation on NJ pensions that could be significant.
Just curious how that works -- he can claim disability while working a full-time job?
@@robertwright8844 military disability is a different bucket, so he can still work full-time while receiving VA disability pay.
Cannot wait for an update episode on how these two are going... lots of growth in them both thru this journey together....
please keep posting such a kind of videos. Its perfect teching of money with story and. Money based conversation it will boom in youtube
Thank you
Just couldn't wait for this educative piece ❤
In the beginning, I was apprehensive for them; I found you to be even a little bit too tough this time around, Ramit, and I was feeling uncomfortable for them; but I stuck it out (as they did; bravo to them. It couldn't have been easy...) and saw the whole thing come full circle and watch them visibly bloom. It was a wonderful episode with a wonderful couple. Bless them. I wish them all the best.
Masterful job, Ramit! Happy 2024 to you and thank you, your team and your guests for this very impactful work.
Nice job Ramit! This felt like a real breakthrough, rooting for them.
Perfect start to 2024!!!! About to go traveling, but will put one of my remote work days on Tuesday so I can listen in....
This is now one of my favorite episodes!!! As always, props to the couple for being vulnerable and showing up 👏and of course, I admire how Ramit can guide the conversation with compassion and tough love!
The retail therapy thing. I put stuff in my cart but don’t buy until Tuesday and most of the time I delete everything from the cart.
So rooting for this couple!! This is the content I love to see. ❤.
best episode yet--loved the honesty from this couple--huge learning for all of us
I should be watching something else but, I need to get this episode over with 😂
Ramit you are amazing! Life changer honestly
Beautiful episode! Well done to both of them. Great facilitation from Ramit as always as well!
Great to see how this couple's relationship is and how determined they were to make the changes. Can help but wholeheartedly root for their success!
That was a great ending or maybe beginning to their story. I love bananas and Hershey as their words. They took a lot from this that I think could helped them far beyond finances. Kudos to the both of them.
People won't understand what you are doing here, this is beyond wow! You are a genius Ramit!
This was one of the more wholesome episodes, rooting for them, hopefully you follow up!
Incredible episode thankyou for diving so deep.
Such a hopeful and positive part 2!
Excellent video, thanks both for let Ramit share this useful info for so many people that is in the same situation.
Love this turn around
Thank you Halima and David for your courage❤
Awesome episode! Congrats to David and Halima!
I think they will be ok. As long as Hamila takes a more active role and her husband stops with the get rich quick stuff.
Bravo for coming on the show and being so open to change. Best wishes for the future! The follow ups already show a great change in demeanor and confidence! I
Watching this now and love ❤️ watching all of Ramit Sethis videos.
This was the best one yet!!! So positive at the end, and it feels achievable. I have full faith in them amazing. Good for them!
What a fantastic first episode to watch in the New Year! Love the love that this couple has for each other, and love how they are determined to work together and tackle the debt as a team (at the same time, grow their investments). As someone who had a lot of "bad" debt over a decade ago and came out of it through a mindset shift and determination, I can say so much of success is in your attitude and confidence (unwavering belief in your abilities!) to move forward, which I see in both Halima and David, and am very excited for them to get on the other side. There will be setbacks and curveballs along the way but if they stick together and keep at it, they will accomplish everything they're aiming to do! Wishing them all the best and rooting for them!
Well that’s early, happy new year everybody!!
Best follow up action plan so far!!!!
Another great episode! Wishing all the best to this lovely couple! ❤🙏🏾
What a lovely couple and I am very confident. They will do just fine. I look forward to see that follow-up from ears to come Especially how she Is able to walk out with her mother.
I just love this.
Thank you ❤

Such a great couple! Complete 180. Rooting for them!!
Oh, I loved this couple....Halima has the most beautiful smile...I wish them both the best of both worlds...Great work mediating here, Sethi 👍😊
this was my favorite episode/couple! i could literally see it sinking in for them how real it was, and without having to make very many changes at all in the spreadsheet itself, i’m sure the mental/habit changes will be made that much easier ❤ i’m rooting for them and really believe they can set themselves up to have an awesome future together & set their kids up for success
Awesome. I'm excited for them!!!!
stupendo episodio !!!!Ho imparato tantissimo grazie grazie grazie🙏
Loved this episode
Love this part two!
Best episode I’ve heard. Very encouraging
Awesome progress! Love that for them.
39:28 she should be managing the money ❤🎉
First time ever seeing Ramit in a white tee : ) This was painful to watch... so much pain and struggle. Very brave couple to see this through and not give up. Another amazing session Ramit!
This was my favorite couple ever! Freaken love them! They are going to crush life and do it together! So proud of them, now go have a hard conversation with your parents! Love it!
It's powerful to see the numbers shift.
The cultural pressure make me nauseous. When discussing an addition with my dad (background in construction) we hammered out a realistic budget and I started getting quotes to confirm. We had a line of credit for the amount my dad anticipated, and I knew we could cash flow more than 1/2 of the project ourselves. It was dare I say, peaceful..... financially speaking.
Wow Ramit!! The role play was just wow
This was such a realistic situation and I feel I could see how their mindset started shifting
Any other working moms (or others) out there really relate to the "Is this it?" feeling?
I feel like I constantly need a goal for the future (even if far in the future) to be obtainable - to get me out of the "is this is?" funk.
46:48: I love how he rizz up his wife! ❤
I believe they might make it. ❤
Vow, great stuff, gives me faith in couples, they have something beautiful going on , keep the faith, someone from jersey once sang 👍
All the best to you two, you are lovely
What an great couple!
I like them!!! I wish them all the best!
I like this guy. Finance and safe words
The culture presence is extremely tough. I’ve found that sometimes you have to put the relationship in a bit of a rocky situation so YOU can focus on bettering your life. Parents & grandparents don’t always have an open mind to situations but at some point a person has to stick to what they really want to improve on regardless of anyone’s opinions.
wow! This is my fav one.
It seems they have promotional cards but not paying it monthly.
Those cards are to be paid monthly so when the promotional period ends it paid off with no intrest charged.
Divide the amount owed by the promotional months and pay that monthly.
Example if it's $1,000 owed due in 12 month divide $1,000 by 12 . Pay a little extra and pay it off in 10 months no interest charged.
No need to hurt yo self financially because of other people..the couple need to take decisions based on their interests…they will get through it
Credit cards should only be used if you pay thrm before you have to pay intrest. Have to be able to utilize for what you already spend and able to pay them down as you buy.
I never got the whole points or cash back system. It seems people buy stuff they don't need to get points. If they save for a trip it would cost less. It's just unnecessary debt.
Points only work if you use the credit card to pay expenses you were already gonna pay with debit anyway. Groceries, gas, eating out, other expenses etc. We’ve gotten free flights/hotel stays with this. So long as you are responsible enough to treat it like a debit card, it works.
So interesting watching the whole credit card thing as someone living in Europe. People generally avoid debt here in Spain, the starting limits are tiny (1K) and there are no points thrown into the standard bank-issued credit cards. Just not really a thing.
i live in uk and everytime i went to my bank i was asked if i want to apply for credit card and never did and never will
Halima should take over the money, she would do a better job.

i hate that she fell in love with the same kind of man she divorced. heartbreaking and relatable 💔
