    Thank you so much for this video! I’m already tired of how most RUclipsrs are approaching this topic. It’s amazing how no one considers their own personal style and what looks good on them or what they like, and jump on the trend bandwagon like there’s no tomorrow. I purchased my bags because I like them, I enjoy carrying them, and they look good on me. To be honest, I don’t care what the current trend is. I will continue to use all my bags- the ones that have logos and the ones that don’t.

      People just like to jump on the bandwagon so most of them don't have their own personality. They're just a copy of a copy. Their sense of style is based on what others are doing or trendy at the moment. Fashion is an expression of oneself. If you're happy with prints and logos do it.

    Years ago, I found out that buying into trends that did not suite my style or body would result in a lot of waste. My style throughout the years has been pretty constant and curated. With some pieces added as needed. Also, I tend to get uncomfortable when I'm asked about my designer items. I think it's because money is personal for me and I've received some criticism in the past for luxury goods. But once again, that's a personal issue I just have to deal with.

      It’s an interesting theory but then you have to wonder why luxury sales skyrocketed during the lockdowns when the rest of economy was at a standstill, businesses were forced to close, and people were losing their jobs in droves. I wish this was a conscious effort to be more sensitive of the current economy but I simply don’t think that’s what’s driving this.

    It’s just personal taste. For most of my life I wanted quiet luxury because I didn’t want to stand out. In recent years I’ve had some breakthroughs in my life that now I’m ok being seen and stand out so I buy color bags and bold logos. Although I’ve always liked bold logos I was too afraid to buy it because I could be standing out. I still love black in clothing and bags, but I’m starting to branch out to have colors in my clothes too. So for me I’m all about bold and loud logos on my handbags now, but I still enjoy my quiet luxury ones. Love this - it's great to start a discussion, I'm sure we've all got an opinion on this.
    I must admit to never having been into big branding, I'm not always sure if you could call my style quiet, though, as I love pops of red and bright blue. I have a Loewe Puzzle, and I love the slouchy feel of this bag as well as the fact that most people wouldn't know what it is, however I also love the Gucci Horsebit in the navy with the interchangable navy and red strap - for me thats all about the colour combination (with a tiny bit of nostalgia for my favourite but discontinued Eau de Gucci perfume that was packaged just the same). Tbh, the monogram canvas puts me off, but the overall aesthetic means that I can't get that bag out of my mind.
    As for trends, if it fits into my style, and I know I'll be wearing it for several years, then I'll go for it. Otherwise, I'll pass. And yes, I love how some things look on other people, despite me knowing that it's not something I'll be investing in, and that's okay.

    Who said quiet luxury is a trend? It isn't a trend because quiet luxury is as old as Old Money. It will always be a thing. It is a preferred style among those who have had wealth for generations because they don't want to draw attention to themselves with logos... for safety reasons especially if they have children as it makes their kids targets for ransom.

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  Год назад

      Correct, I agree with everything you said except that it IS trending at the moment. Everyone is talking about this and searches for quiet luxury are up exponentially online. • @LadeeBugg81
      @LadeeBugg81 Год назад +1

      @hello catwalk city It is very bizarre to me because I have always been a quiet luxury girl for over 20 years. My ex-husband bought me an LV for Christmas in 2003, and I returned it, I didn't like the monogram. But I did keep the wallet because I didn't want to hurt his feelings since I could put it inside my purses. I eventually gave it to my mom, who likes LV. He now understands I prefer an understated designer and told him about Moynat since 2011, and in the last year, Joseph Duclos. My bags are just my accessories, and I dont let it wear me but instead let my clothes make all the self expressions which I say is sophisticated with colorful edginess. I don't want people to see how much money I spent on a bag, but I prefer to look put together, along with etiquette which speaks much more for class than the price tag of a bag. I have seen girls carry 6k Chanel bags, but don't know the difference between a salad or dinner fork or which side their drinks are placed. Those little details gives away someone's social class.

    Example, if you venture into an affluent space, be it an event, restaurant, holiday resort, etc - look at the people, the wealthy have always practiced “quiet luxury”.

    My take is the pressure for "quiet luxury" seems pretty judgy, in that who push for it or look down on others who are more logo'd/flashy. Fashion is fun because people have personal style. Some people are going to go all in for the monogram and flash (e.g. cassie thorpe) some are more classic (you, sohpie shohet). I view both sides as incredibly fashionable. Like you said it'd be pretty boring if we all dressed the same.
    I have a pretty colorful wardrobe (lots of jewel tones), but i accessorize with neutral bags/shoes. I just look and feel better in brighter colors than neutrals.

    Agreed! I actually find LV canvas to be a very classic look, excluding the giant or collab items. Not trendy at all in my personal opinion . There are also trends in fashion and retail. There are also social media trends, what is being discussed on social media, which isn’t necessarily based on actual retail figures or fashion industry editorials. I find the social media content trend to be short lived and while I listen to it for entertainment I don’t take any of it seriously as in no time there will be another trending topic. I’m in planner groups too and see the same. A size or brand of cover will trend due to a very aesthetic influencer and by the next month everyone will have moved on to the next thing. Many of these bag vids also focus on what other people think or looking rich or old rich or new rich or whatever. I don’t dress for others ever so I find it very bizarre, the concept of wanting to look a certain type of rich.

I don’t think ppl wear a lot of logos they are rich, nor the ones who wear quiet brands are the real rich. Too many fakes imagination being thrown to public, these days. And ppl don’t talk abt their bank statements 😁 And i also think ridiculous abt OLD MONEY STYLE. If you don’t hv tht much money why you want to pretend like you are a trust-fund babies?? 😂🤣 I can’t stand the wrap around neck sweater old money style (do they even still style like tht these days? Great video! It’s a great point to make that the move towards quiet luxury is honestly another trend and we really should only follow it if it’s a reflection of our own style. I tend to dress on the louder side but I appreciate how striking monochromatic outfits are and incorporate that into my style. But the world would be boring if we all followed the trend and dressed the same! For that reason I tend to shy away from most trends because I feel like my creativity is being taken away. Moral of the story, just wear and buy what you love. Don’t let social media dictate your look!

      A trend is generally when something has become substantially more popular than usual. It doesn’t necessarily have to be new. Right now, everyone is talking about quiet luxury as IF it’s a new and cool concept. The searches for quiet luxury items has skyrocketed online. So in that sense, it is a trend at the moment. People who were never into dressing quiet luxury are now all of a sudden interested.

    Of course, you should wear what you want. Some people are all about the logos. But I seem to recall a similar trend in the 1990s. The late 1980s were all about flash and status symbols. In 1987 we had the stock market crash and eventually, the pendulum swung to minimalism and what they're now calling quiet luxury. I seem to recall the same thing happening after the market crash of 2007 and the Great Recession. Of course, fashion industry is always at work trying to change our minds. It's all about generating revenue. For past couple seasons, the fashion media was heralding. the return of the oversized bag. However, I did read that consumers were not necessarily jumping on the bandwagon for this trend. In other words, consumers do not always adopt trends promoted by influencers. As in previous decades, some of this reluctance may be tied to the economic climate.

    I think joy should be the center of anything you buy. With that said, loud or silent luxury have time and place. And that determination of such right or appropriate time is again up to an individual decision. For example, however silent luxury is the ‘’current trend’’ as said, I would never wear thousands of dollars in The Row or Loro Piana to go feed the homeless.
    I think fashion gives options: loud or silent but everyone should exercise compassion.

    There’s also the fact that a lot of this quiet vs. loud luxury is so clearly rooted in classism.
    Luxury goods have now become somewhat available to a class of people who previously never could’ve even dreamt of those items, and now trends are emerging that are a THINLY veiled attempt to create distance from that class!
    It’s so silly because it’s all rooted in perception. Chasing after a perception of wealth, class, and superiority that for most of these “trend followers”…. Only exists in their head 🤷🏾‍♀️

I seldom see a person wearing all logos, mostly on Billboards and fashion shows, IG, tiktok, and it suits them yeah. But a walking logo mania? Not so much. A lil bit of logo here and there is nice. I dreaded the day when all I will see when I do people watching were a bunch of Gwyneths and Olsen sisters. If you do quiet you do it, if people wear some or even more logos let them be. I don't think all of them want to look rich. There's more hypocrisy in 'looking' old rich style I think.

I think there are different places and times where you want to make a statement, or where you want to keep it chic and minimalistic - neither are right or wrong (for the most part if we're talking about dress codes and such). I really love deep jewel tones and I always get complimented when I wear any kind of red or burgundy shade. Finally I started questioning why I was doing something that doesn't bring me joy (luckily before I went too far with it) and realised the power of Instagram images (that are VERY staged). I'm still enjoying my neutral wardrobe basics, but I'm mixing it up now with the colours that I love and missed. Fashion/handbags/anything in life has to work for YOU, not the other way around.
