I refuse to use TikTok, it's awful for your brain, exactly as they have described. ADHD is on the rise and kids don't have the attention span to sit and watch a MOVIE anymore?! All because of 10 second clips you can endlessly scroll through which have destroyed young brains with instant gratification hits. The world is F*cked. Everyone needs to quit it.

Not sure if im a fan of the adhd discussion in many of these worries. I get why its there! But i think it sort of downplays the disorder. Adhd is on the rise because there has been more information on it, and people recognise it within themselves…adhd must be present from a very young age i believe, one cant just acquire it suddenly as a result of a social media addiction.
Misdiagnosis can happen, yes! But i feel just equating adhd with short attention spans in relation to social media doesnt do it justice. Theres a difference between a low attention span and not being able to watch long form content, versus something more severe and continuous that impacts all areas of life - regardless of circumstance.

What actually happening is that, when we get the first short vid infornt of us....we try to watch it with focus, feels good, then we try to focus and concentrate on it but that short has finished by that time so our focusing capability gets compromised. Of course our brain dont wanna see same vid in a loop .... so we scroll to next....again the same thing happens .... we start concentrating on it...but the vids is just too short...again our brains focusing skill hurts abruptly...this process in a loop for 2-3 hrs makes our brain run low on focusing skills and it get used to short information. After 2 3 hrs of scrolling when we sit with books we feel....here we have to open book , read ourselves, understand ourselves and memorize it....but in shorts there we strangers who were giving u info in less than a minute. Eventually, we can focus on studies or other long time taken tasks...and our memorizing power gets low.

If I were to compare TikTok to a drug, I'd compare it to crack cocaine! Swipe/smoke for more dopamine, no satisfaction, only brief rewards to motivate you to keep frying your brain, even though it isn't actually enjoyable if you really keep doing it. Having tried crack, the experience of binging until you run out thinking it is fun, even though it really mkes you feel like sh*t almost immediately resonates with my experience of shortform videos. By comparison a good long movie is like mushrooms, you need to put time aside to relax and enjoy in good company!

My living partner and I are now so socially far apart, she's over 55, about a year ago she was introduced to TIK TOK, and now she's totally addicted to it, she gets in from work, and gets her ear bud in, sits in her living room chair and disconnects from everything for hours until she goes to bed, then she's on it in bed until she falls asleep, she's become impatient, can't hold a conversation for more than a minute and gets aggravated if you want to talk, she's quit watching movies and tv shows with me, can't keep her attention, she's stopped watching her shows totally, and won't even look up at me from her phone when I try to talk to her. And she now watches longer videos on Tik Tok (when her ear bud isn't in) at double speed. She's totally addicted to it now.

Just in the year 2024 alone, and I am shocked to hell to how many people I meet, especially younger people that have TikTok brain. Every time I make videos about this topic of how compared to America versus people around the world, they have a short attention span they type like 13-year-olds from high school they act like children picking on one another being disrespectful and being unprofessional about it and they all have one thing in common. They scroll through TikTok or a short videos all the time, and I was never into TikTok, and never even know its existence until 2020 when the power-hungry people are taking over the world, I don’t even understand TikTok or why it’s so popular every time I scroll on it I feel like I am seeing the same trends over and over and over from over 10,000 different people whenever I scroll all I see is girls Twerking or doing sexual things that have no point to it or I see those videos of where people are talk about how to get a deal or a discount on something that isn’t true such as going to a gas station saying that we have a special deal on Thursdays now there’s not. It’s just pointless videos that people are obsessed with and whenever I am in the middle of talking or explaining something they stop listening after 60 seconds ago on their phones and it’s reach to the point I have to scream at them to pay attention, and whenever I scream at them, they get upset, and then they cryabout how much of a jerk I am and I get sick of it
