Chana - I've used a crockpot since 1978 - and have gone through many different versions as a result! I am so fortunate that my husband will pretty much eat anything I cook! One of my favorites is chicken that has been lightly browned and combined with sliced onions and mushrooms and some kind of gluten free soup such as Pacific brand cream of mushroom - let it cook for about 4 hours on medium and serve over mashed potatoes, gluten free pasta or rice. Another version is subbing out a whole jar of salsa and then serving shredded with corn tortillas and sour cream.

We are at home because the snowstorm we’re having in Kansas shut school, and my job down for the day. So, I’m making pot roast for dinner, will probably start it in about an hour or so. Anyway, I use my crockpot probably a couple times a month, more in winter…….

I have the orange chicken recipe in my crock pot right now! I was so excited when I saw this! My daughter will LOVE this! I know it! I’m going to also try it the way your husband suggested with frying the chicken first! That would probably be nearly identical!
Totally off topic, but I think it would be awesome if you did an orthodox bedroom tour. As I’m sure you know there is a ton of misconception and misinformation about the separate sleeping etc etc etc. As someone who was raised up in a “barely reform” (my own description) and then became more religious in my own adulthood - I know this was a topic that I was always super embarrassed to ask about, but that was also really important for me to understand etc. I had some beautiful friends and, of course, Rabbi’s who helped guide me - but for those in transition I think this would be a super awesome topic to cover. Your specific personality seems perfect for this topic because you know how to deliver sensitive topics in a way that is informative but not over the top or insensitive. You’re amazing!

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  2 года назад +3

Hope you guys enjoyed the chicken!!! I won’t do a tour of my bedroom, since that is a private space in my home where I don’t invite people to. But I do plan to talk about that entire topic on my channel, so stay tuned!

Traditionally orange chicken is fried first and then add it to Sauce. So add cornstarch, garbanza flour, and rice flour. Then you want to Spritz some sesame oil on it. Then use an air fryer. Do precook your sauce and about the last 30 minutes add your fried chicken with it enjoy. Very ingenious concept of how to do it in the Crock-Pot though Bravo. Shalom

These all look sooooooooooooooooo tasty. I live alone and I “batch cook” on the weekends because I just can’t handle cooking during the week. Translation? I cook either two different recipes for 4 people or one recipe for 6 people and it feeds me for the week. I love making recipes in the crockpot because it means I just dump everything in and it cooks and then I put it in the fridge.
Please don’t throw things at my head!! 😁. I have so such admiration for everybody that cooks every day for their family. I just really hate cooking and do it on the weekends so that I only have to do it once. And thank you for showing the oops of forgetting to add the taco seasoning. I do stuff like that all the time and I was feeling like a bit of a dork I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that makes that mistake.

I was recently diagnosed with coeliac's disease and I decided to make a pot roast in my slow cooker. I don't drink alcohol but put some $2 in the broth and although it's not done yet, man it smells so good. I also added left over veggies like butternut squash, red potatos and turnips.
My mum is from Wales and she says the idea is to just use the left over stuff that's going to expire like potatos leeks, turnips, carrots, meats etc and you can make this into Welsh Cawl (stew) she makes it with corned beef and it is pretty awesome, you can even do this with other meats, but kosher lamb is my favourite! All in the crock pot for like 7-8 hours on low, if you use red meat definitely sear it first. I reccomend to give it a try since you like the chicken noodle soup.
I think I am going to start using my crockpot throughout the year because you showed me that there are options for gluten free dairy free diets like me and my mums.
Thank you so much for sharing, I am so inspired! I'm going to try the orange chicken next!

one of my fave crock pot meals is a can of picante or salsa a package of taco seasoning a package of chicken breasts let it cook all day until the chicken is cooked shreed the chicken when it's cooked. I serve it over rice with taco fixing on top tomatoes, lettuce, chesse and sour cream. My fave way to fix rice is to put in a microwave safe bowl put 1 cup rice 2 cups water cover with press and seal put in microwave for 6 minutes on high then 20 minutes on 50% power perfect rice everytime.

I am eager to pull out my crockpot because I’ve been craving stew. Mine is actually a ninja crockpot or something so I can seer (spelling?) The meat in it as well. I am hoping to try the orange chicken recipe because I do not like Chinese food but my best friend and husband do. He was not raised keeping kosher but we do now so when he gets Chinese food it’s usually tofu. My best friend is not keep kosher so hopefully she can tell us if it doesn’t affect taste like the orange chicken from panda express. I also found it really funny because you were like these are all things I have in my cabinet. I have like none of those things in my cabinet. 🤣

Some good recipes. I only use frozen veggies (no sodium) & will substitute parsley for cilantro (can't stand the soapy taste). The liners are a big help; don't have to chisel the slow cooker clean. You can find something at a store to use for the missing leg of your slow cooker & put it on w/epoxy. That's what I did.

Hi Chana: Everything looked so good, it made me hungry! I especially liked the orange chicken over the rice, but really, I can tell it was ALL yummy. 🤗 Winter is a wonderful time to make those crock pot meals, although it's also helpful in warm weather, so as not to heat up the kitchen. It looks like both you and your husband are good cooks, and, the kiddos eat very healthy meals with lots of variety. I'll have to try these. Thanks for sharing, and, many blessings to all of you. 🙏 Rosemarie 💖

Strange question perhaps - but what is poultry seasoning? I haven’t heard of it before.
I love using my crock pot. It is summer here but I used it the other day with a whole chicken with bbq sauce over the top and cooked eight hours on low. Makes for a great soft chicken and lots of chicken to pop on a salad or in sandwiches.

I started laughing when you stirred in the milk/flour on the first recipe and the crockpot was shifting. I had that same crockpot and one of the little rubber feet on the bottom fell off, so mine would do that too. 😂 my husband got me a new crockpot with a timer on it for Mother’s Day and I gave the old one away on Facebook marketplace to a lady who had the same one but her stoneware broke so she didn’t need the metal part anyways
I used to make the Santa Fe chicken as a meal prep thing but I cook differently now since I’ve had my twins and my husband won’t eat it so I haven’t made it in years! I don’t know if the kids would eat it or not, they’ve never even seen a black bean 🤪
